Guests say

Baywatch Sands is a well-located cottage in Cornwall, praised for its proximity to the beach and town amenities. Guests appreciate the clean bedding and quirky layout, and the property is considered a good family base. Some guests noted the need for modernisation and additional facilities like a dishwasher. The outdoor space and maintenance received mixed reviews, but the recent upgrades have been well-received, with many guests planning to rebook.

The property generally received positive remarks on cleanliness, with specific praise for spotless bedding and overall tidiness. However, some guests mentioned musty cupboards and an unpleasant smell, slightly affecting the score.

The location is highly praised for its close proximity to the beach and lack of steep slopes, making it an ideal spot for beachgoers and families. The convenience of parking and the ability to explore Polzeath are noted advantages.

Guests found the beds comfortable and the property spacious enough for families. However, some guests mentioned issues with noise from the stairs and the size of the top bedroom bed, which impacted the comfort level.

The property's facilities are seen as adequate but in need of updates. Guests appreciated the new kitchen and bathroom but noted the lack of a dishwasher and outdoor furniture. Maintenance issues like broken hobs and stair lights were also mentioned.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

About this property

Baywatch Sands rests in the heart of Polzeath, Cornwall, just paces away from the beach. Enjoying a balcony to savour the sea-views, a country-style interior and off-road parking for three cars, this holiday home is idyllic for a family of five or a group of friends, plus their four-legged companion. Enter the well-equipped kitchen, which offers everything you need for a self-catered stay, including an electric oven, induction hob, microwave, and washing machine for keeping clothes fresh. Gather in the dining room to tuck-into delectable meals and why not uncork a bottle of wine to celebrate the occasion? Venture upstairs to discover the sitting room; here you can unwind on the sofa with a cup of tea as the TV keeps you entertained, or admire the sea-air from the balcony. After a day filled with fun, the ground-floor offers a bathroom for a soothing soak and an overhead shower to wash away the sand. When sleep calls, there is a family bedroom with ample storage which allows for a child to sleep in their own single room next to the adult’s double room. There is also a double on the first floor, with lovely views of the surrounding greenery. During the daytime there is plenty on offer in the village of Polzeath, potter to the beach to feel the sand between your toes and to take on the waves on a board, which can be hired at the beach. Alternatively, take a more laid-back approach and feast in the Oyster Catcher Pub or Waterfront Restaurant, both in walking distance from Baywatch Sands. Those with children will enjoy the local watersports offered at Rock beach, reachable via scenic coastal walks or by car. From Rock you can also take the foot ferry to Padstow for retail therapy and an obligatory Cornish pasty and ice cream! For a blissful escape to the Cornish coast, secure a stay at Baywatch Sands. Note: For larger groups and families who wish to stay close to each other, this property conveniently can be booked with Ref. 1103493 which sits back on the hillside just above this house, together sleeping up to 12 guests. Please note: The property has recently had renovation works to the kitchen and bathroom therefore, the current pictures do not reflect this.

Polzeath, a seaside resort with a sandy beach backed by rock pools, is regarded as one of the top surfing beaches in the country. The South West Coast Path, a 630-mile trail that goes through Polzeath, features a number of small businesses, cafes, and restaurants. Wadebridge, a prominent market town nestled alongside the River Camel with a variety of shops, pubs, and restaurants, as well as North Cornwall's sole family-owned cinema, is little over seven miles away. The renowned Camel Trail runs through the village, and the neighbouring town of Padstow, with its harbour, pastel-washed ancient houses, and well-known eateries, is well worth visiting. Newquay, the UK surfing centre, is only a short drive away, with over 11 kilometres of golden sand beaches. Polzeath is a great place to start your explorations of this section of Cornwall.

Little effort made to make the exterior patio look attractive or welcoming (just a concrete back yard really with loose pavings). A picnic table rather than an exterior dining table with beach chairs too low to sit on to eat at the table. No washing line (John Bray employee did drop one off a couple of days after requesting it). The bathroom towel heater old and rusty. Tiles coming off the wall at the end of the bath. A "barrier" made out of mastic on the bathroom shelf to divert the shower water from going on the floor. Curtains not lined and no shutters so tricky to sleep beyond 5am. Would rather have had a coffee machine than a microwave. No freezer just a small under counter fridge. All cupboards smelt musty. We had a great holiday in wonderful Polzeath but would not return to this property.

The house is a few feet from the Bounce Zone and crazy golf. Not the relaxing break promised. Customer Services completely unhelpful. Have booked through John Bray for years, never again after this.

Already booked for next year, can’t wait to go back. Thank you ☺️
