Guests say

Guests generally appreciate the high-end appliances, comfortable beds, and proximity to the beach. The property is praised for its cleanliness and modern amenities, though some guests noted a lack of natural light and outdoor space. The location is ideal for exploring the South Hams area, with a friendly village atmosphere and nearby farm shop.

The property is frequently described as spotless and tidy, with high standards of cleanliness. However, a few guests mentioned minor issues such as cobwebs and a need for deeper cleaning in the kitchen.

The location is well-regarded for its proximity to the beach and local amenities, though some guests were disappointed with the lack of sea views and the presence of a building site and car park nearby.

The beds and furnishings are often mentioned as very comfortable, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, some guests found the sofa uncomfortable and the seating arrangements inadequate for four adults.

The property boasts high-spec kitchen appliances and modern decor, but some guests encountered issues with Wi-Fi, a lack of written instructions for appliances, and incomplete kitchen inventory. Maintenance responsiveness was mixed.

While some guests mentioned a lovely welcome pack, there is not enough consistent information across reviews to determine if this is a standard practice. Therefore, it's politely noted that such gestures, while appreciated, may not be guaranteed.

About this property

The Barn is a stunning, two-storey barn conversion that has been sympathetically renovated, retaining many original features. Just a few steps from Slapton Sands beach and Torcross village amenities such as the local pub, shop and cafes, it’s the perfect bolthole for a coastal retreat.

From the courtyard parking area, the entrance leads into a hallway with cloakroom, and ash staircase leading up to a spacious open-plan living area, with high vaulted ceilings, original cross beams and skylights. Set in the heart of Torcross, the property enjoys two luxurious en suite bedrooms, and a light and sunny open plan living area. The contemporary kitchen (including four-ring Miele induction hob, integrated ovens plus combi microwave, two fridges, dishwasher, small freezer, Nespresso coffee machine and kettle tap) has a dining area that comfortably seats four. The large living room has a spacious L-shaped sofa, glass-topped coffee table, wall-mounted Smart TV and playstation! The master suite, on the ground floor, enjoys a super-King size oak-framed bed, ample clothes storage, Smart TV an armchair and a luxurious en suite bathroom complete with bath and separate rain head shower. The second bedroom has two oak-framed single beds, wardrobe and drawers, Smart TV and en suite shower room with a large walk in shower cubicle.

Duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels are all provided, and a travel cot and highchair are provided for children if required. Guests can enjoy free wireless broadband internet and benefit from secure off-road garage parking. The owners kindly provide a complimentary welcome pack including fresh milk, coffee, tea and juice.

With quick access to the South West Coast Path, the property is also just 8 miles away from Dartmouth, and a 10-15 minute drive from the stunning beaches of East Portlemouth and Blackpool Sands.

Torcross is at the southern end of Slapton Sands, in the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This area of coastline is a historic site where the Normandy landings were practiced, and is within easy reach of the towns of Kingsbridge and Salcombe. Slapton Sands is a 1.2 mile-long stretch of shingle beach, which is dog-friendly all year round. This area is fantastic for nature lovers, with Slapton Ley Nature Reserve adjacent to the beach.

Wonderful week would definitely recommend to family and friends.

The beds super comfortable with nice clean bed linen and towels. The property is very dark on the ground floor but with a massive bedroom Unfortunately despite the address as The Beach there are no views of the beach, just an ugly car park or building site. This should be emphasised more and the price reflective as you would with a hotel asking for a sea view. We did not receive a welcome pack other than 4 tea bags. We were offered milk but we had already brought that with us. You have to take all kitchen cleaning materials with you there are no basics at all such as dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid etc and toilet rolls. Whilst this is not a massive problem there are no local shops to purchase anything urgent even bread and milk so be prepared. The recycling bins on two visits were overflowing so we took rubbish out with us. The seating arrangement in the lounge is very small for four adults and storage in bedroom 2 very small. The property is fine for two adults and may be one child. The property was clean but but not deep cleaned especially in the kitchen area. The freezer is tiny and has no ice cube tray. The wi fi was shocking especially in the evenings, so streaming a film impossible. You can walk to a shingle beach in 3-4 mins which was lovely and a couple of take away/restaurants. We left a few maps and ideas of things to do and visit. This could definitely be improved along with suggestions of where to eat. Mill Bay beach is stunning, not an easy drive but worth it and National Trust Greenway and Overbeck worth the effort of getting there. Overall we felt disappointed with the location and properly should have researched better before making our booking.

Other than that a great place to stay. We loved the village so much we have booked again for next year. The LED lights were a big hit with the kids. The staff at the local Billy Can Cafe were very welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place to others.
