About this property

Saxmundham 5.3 miles. Black Sheep Cottage is a simply dreamy retreat settled into the countryside village of Peasenhall, near Saxmundham, with a mixture of 17th-century and contemporary design. This cottage boasts character and charm and is ideal for two couples or a family looking to explore Suffolk. White-washed walls complement the wooden beams and exposed brickwork, inspiring guests to head into the tasteful sitting area and warm their feet beside the woodburning stove; a delightful feature settled into an exposed brick fireplace. When mealtimes call, head over to a pretty kitchen/diner with a homely, countryside feel, boasting a whole host of amenities, as well as wooden beams and a characterful atmosphere. Here guests can cook up a storm, before enjoying their meal at the dining table, or outside in the rear garden with patio area. As the evening wears on, climb the traditional, curving staircase to find two stunning double bedrooms, each with characterful features and beautiful wooden aspects throughout, serviced by a bathroom. Peasenhall is a delightful location, offering two local shops for all of your holiday essentials, as well as a café, and at Sibton you will find Sibton White Horse Inn. For a greater variety of eateries, head over to Saxmundham, where there is also a museum. Things to do in the local area include visits to Snape Maltings, Framlingham Castle, Leiston Abbey, Orford Castle, Rendlesham Forest, and RSPB Minsmere for a spot of birdwatching. Head over to Southwold to spend a day beside the seaside, and here there is a golf course, and a sandy beach, and along the Suffolk coast there are many more stunning sandy beaches and watersports opportunities. All of this and so much more with a stay at the simply dreamy Black Sheep Cottage.

Saxmundham is a small market town located on the River Fromus, in the heart of Suffolk’s Heritage Coast. The town is well serviced with a Waitrose, Tesco, independent shops, local museum, and a train station, as well as art galleries, a weekly market and a farmers’ market. Situated so close to the coast, Saxmundham is a great base for a seaside holiday; within easy reach of Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, as well as Dunwich, Southwold and Walberswick, you could enjoy a different coastal location each day. Also close by is the inland market town Framlingham with beautiful historic architecture, a castle and an array of independent shops. South of the town there is the well known tourist destination of Sutton Hoo, an ancient Royal Anglo-Saxon burial site.

Clean, comfortable and well equipped it made a great base for exploring this lovely area. Also enjoyed the many footpaths within easy reach of the cottage.

The original staircase, exposed beams and the general feeling in the cottage made my stay very enjoyable and relaxing . It was well equipped, the welcome pack full of useful information and the location has some good walking routes from doorstep while just a short drive from the beaches at Southwold and Aldeburgh. I’d definitely recommend a stay at black sheep cottage.

Perhaps also a fly trap of some description . But our main concern was the fact that cats would come into the cottage and my wife is very scared of them and i am not keen, so we had to put a stool against the cat flap, if we would have known. we would not have rented the cottage. However we still enjoyed our stay and the place for some reason or another had a lovely vibe.
