Shepherd's Lodge receives high praise for its spotless condition, comfortable furnishings, and well-equipped facilities. Nestled in a stunning location, it offers a warm welcome and an authentic farm experience with plenty of wildlife and walking paths. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches and the helpfulness of the hosts, making it a memorable stay for many.
Reviewers consistently mention the cottage's spotless and well-maintained state, indicating a very high level of cleanliness that contributes positively to their overall experience.
The property's location is celebrated for its stunning views and proximity to walking paths, though its remoteness is noted. The charm of being on a working farm adds to the appeal for guests seeking a rural retreat.
Guests find the cottage extremely comfortable, with cosy sitting rooms, comfortable beds, and a warm atmosphere, particularly highlighted by the presence of a log fire.
The cottage is well-equipped, with a kitchen that satisfies guests' needs and quality crockery. However, the lack of a shower bracket and welcome pack in some instances suggests room for minor improvements.
While guests do not consistently mention gifts, the presence of a welcome bottle of wine in one instance suggests a degree of thoughtfulness. It should be noted that such gestures are not guaranteed and may vary.
Reeth 5.7 miles. Shepherd's Lodge is a delightful, stone-built semi-detached farmhouse is located on a working hill sheep farm, attached to the owner's family farmhouse in Arkengarthdale, just five miles from Reeth, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Set in a splendid and secluded location, this first-class cottage has lovely views across open pastureland, a babbling brook and the magnificent Arkengarthdale countryside within easy reach. It is an ideal retreat for those looking to get away from it all, re-charge their batteries and enjoy true country living, while exploring the wild and rugged surroundings. Traditional yet stylish throughout, this lovingly-restored cottage boasts underfloor heating provided from a biomass heating system and a wonderful blend of furnishings, which enhance the original features of this old farmhouse. The ground floor sitting room has three-piece recliners and a feature fireplace containing a woodburning stove, making it a great place to curl up with a good book. The adjoining kitchen is open-plan, with arched doorways leading to the utility room and a dining area, set by the main window to take full advantage of the long distance views. The room is large and social, a great place to prepare a meal and relax after a day's outing on the local fells. The second bedroom has twin beds, which can be made into a super-king-size double on request, while the main bathroom features a lovely freestanding bath and Velux windows, letting lots of light into the room. Outside, the south-facing patio enjoys magnificent views across the adjoining meadows; after a day out and about, you can sit here with a refreshing drink and relax. There are excellent walks from the doorstep, some easy, but the majority are more demanding so this isn't a walking area for the faint hearted! The cottage is set between The Charles Bathurst Inn, which has a fine reputation for good ale and excellent dining, and The Tan Hill Inn. Known as the inn 'on top of the world' and standing at 1732ft above sea level, it is Britain's highest inn. It is only 12 miles to the historic town of Barnard Castle in Teesdale, County Durham, which is home to the award-winning and iconic Bowes Museum. The market towns of Hawes, Leyburn and Richmond, Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater and Hardraw Force are also all nearby, providing even more walking and cycling routes amongst the rolling countryside hills. For days out while at the property, you can also visit the popular Wensleydale Creamery Visitor Centre and discover why Wensleydale cheese is so popular.
