Guests say

Griers Cabin is a quaint and quirky cottage in Whitby, appreciated for its excellent location within walking distance of the town centre and attractions. Guests have enjoyed the charm and convenience it offers, and some have mentioned a nice touch with welcome gifts. However, there are mixed feelings about the cleanliness and maintenance.

Several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, including dirty bedding, hair on surfaces, and a need for a deep clean. These recurring comments suggest that cleanliness is below expectations for some guests.

The location is frequently praised for being close to the centre of Whitby and its sights, with easy access to the town and the abbey. However, parking difficulties have been noted by multiple guests.

Guests have commented on the comfort of the property, with some finding it adequate and others noting issues with the quality of furnishings, such as the mattress and cutlery. The size of the property has also been mentioned as a limiting factor for comfort.

The reviews indicate that while the property has good amenities, there are several maintenance issues, such as a missing bedroom window handle, problems with hot water, and a need for updates in decor and facilities.

Guests have mentioned welcome gifts such as chocolates and wine, which are seen as a thoughtful gesture. However, it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed and may vary.

It's in a great location with great access to the abbey and town centre. Nice touch from the owners with the welcome basket. I can see where the other reviewers are coming from with regards to the cleanliness. The cabin would benefit from a deep clean and a bit of modernisation. Saying this we would gladly go again.

This meant boiling a kettle to wash hands after using the loo and to wash up. He never arranged any repair during our brief stay. The lavatory leaks and the cistern is faulty with haphazard results when flushing . Sometime the water stops . At other times there is a continual flow of water and the cistern noisily keeps trying to refill. The shower door handle was filthy and there was mould on the clothes airer in the shower room as well on the woodwork. The kitchen is not easy to prepare a meal in as the limited space is cluttered with ornaments and two microwaves. The bed is really only suitable for one person as if the loo is required during the night, one person has to climb over the other. The front door has a letter box without any back flap and so a draught comes through unless it is physically blocked.

Toilet cistern mechanism broken, we had to lift lid on cistern to operate flush. Nowhere in bathroom for toothbrushes etc except the floor!! A shelf would have been useful. Outside bin store was not nice to go into, rusty paint tins on floor. Cleaners need to pay attention to vacuuming as we found toenail clippings and a ring by bedside cabinet, not nice to tread on!! Patio was hardly big enough for the table and 2 chairs, one of which kept falling off in front of the door, not really somewhere we would choose to sit. Kitchen was well equipped and clean except for ship ornaments in window which had black mould on.
