What our customers say about their holidays

    • Diane - Verified booking

I have been to this cottage several times and this time notice the deterioration of the maintainace and cleanliness of the cottage .

The floor was lifting in the living area which we kept tripping over. All the air fresheners I had to un plug as they was all empty some was even going brown due to not being changed and left plugged in air fresheners last a month so they not be changed in a while for them to go brown. This is a fire hazard .There was mould on the landing and mould in the bathroom and in the bedroom under the dressing table was a nozzle for a hairdryer on the floor which I picked up it had been there a while cause it was very dusty and the dressing table chair I had to wipe before I could sit on it.The lampshades are very dusty the rug was dirty in living area. The door to the back kept sticking I could not open it myself .The security door at the front was broke and had to be holded back with a brick. There was dog dirt outside the property one morning cause the security door was not working which we had to clean. We stayed for 11 days as anyone would I got the hoover to hoover and it was absolutely disgusting the smell that came from it.Again this shows not being cleaned proper to smell as it did .The extractor fan in the bathroom needs cleaning and the back needs power washing as it’s green and smells .We payed over £1600 for our stay the cottage is in need of a good clean and updating.I won’t stay here again

Sorry but we felt rather disappointed in this cottage.

For the money I expected a few luxuries, like tables beside the bed to put a cup on, not a dressing table with no access under the roof beams. It would have been nice to have a mirror with a shelf for makeup that was lit enough to see and/or a dressing table. The sofa was so slippery it was barely possible to sit on. The kitchen had the basics but I felt, as in other reviews sadly, that I had to wash things before use. The cupboard cupboard for food had sticky shelves which I covered in paper towel and the frying pans had to be washed before use to get rid of the grease still on them. One of the lamps didn’t work and had a broken plug. Thankfully the bed was comfortable and the shower worked well. The bathroom was very clean. Generally though, I’m afraid, it was not à comfortable experience and we did not wish to linger longer. I was shocked to find that the cottage that I had paid a lot of money for, for 3 nights, was definitely not the end to our holiday that I was looking forward to. I paid almost half of this to two other companies and they were well appointed and pristine- a hotel and a private accommodation.

Fabulous little cottage, the pictures don’t do it justice, it’s so much nicer in reality.

The room is so cosy, with a huge tv(bonus), kitchen had everything we needed, shame it didn’t have a freezer, even just a freezer box in fridge, but we did manage okay, especially when it’s right next to a fabulous little butcher’s. The bedroom was spacious, bed comfy, pillows too hard for me, perhaps give an option?. Lovely bathroom, if there’s a way to shower that would be good, like one of them hoop curtains?, we made do so not a major issue, just a little issue for people with back problems getting out of baths. The car park space was a real bonus, only a few minutes down the street as the streets filled up pretty quickly, just unload at side of butchers then park down the road, we did get neighbours looking, however lots of people doing it down this street all day. Ruswarp is a perfect location, only 30 minutes walk to Whitby via train track trail, perfect for our little cockapoo. If it’s available for our next holiday we will be back.

Property was as described and very comfortable.

Some Prosecco and other goodies left for us which was a nice touch. Depending on when you arrive/depart you’ll either need to unload in the butchers car park or if that’s closed, in the side road but it is quite busy so you need to be quick. Once we parked up we used the train to get to Whitby or we walked in along the path that runs alongside the railway line (takes about 30 mins). Road outside it quite busy but we soon got used to it so it was no problem. I did feedback to the owners that a privacy curtain would be useful on the back door as you have to pass it to get from the bathroom to upstairs. There is a curtain on the front door. A lovely cottage in a lovely setting and a really good alternative in price to actually staying in Whitby.
