Could you tell me when Sykes last visited this property for yous to claim it is a 4 star property.

Out of coutesy i emailed the landlord before I replied to your request for a review. My contact number is This is the Email i have sent to the landlord 5 days ago without response. Arriving at the cottage we came into a lovely spacious and comfortable first floor . The small lobby had a dog bowl and towels that was very pleasing for our dog Poppy. The kitchen was spotless with all the updated mod cons anyone could wish for. A bottle of red wine from the owners was a lovely touch. A nice dining table to eat from was also amust. Entering the spacious spottless sitting room found a very comfortable area where you could sit and relax with TV and internet connection which was excellent. However it goes very quickly downhill when going downstairs to the Bedrooms and Bathrooms. Your senses were blasted by lots of plug in airfreshners, reed defusers and random smellies and a plethara of disposable moisture de humiders. Unfortunitly this could not come close to masking the smell of damp. Undetered we ventured downstairs to find nice beds and bedrooms and well appointed spotless bathrooms and shower. Together with lovely clean fresh towels. Trying not to let the smell of damp spoil things we went for a walk and a bite to eat which was more than pleasant. The next morning found the sheets feeling dampish and the overwheming stench of damp. After 2 days our clothes in the wardrobes and the drawers smelt damp and mouldy thus we brought our clothes upstairs and put them all on the kitchen table. We tried another night in bed but the smell of damp became too overwhelming. We managed another night on the sofa but we had enough on the Tuesday morning and we returned home instead of coming home on the Friday which we had paid for.

One of the main criteria of booking this cottage was the wood burner, which you kindly informed us was out of use well in advance of our holiday. However to say all 4 of us were disappointed would be an understatement. To this end we found the living area cold and spent most of our time in the kitchen/hallway. We then discovered on arrival that the Green Dragon was closed - another criteria of ours - a pub within walking distance. The other problem we had was Hawes being resurfaced and as a result the traffic was being diverted passed the cottage. We also struggled to get live tv and had to watch everything on player - slightly annoying if trying to keep up with the news as it only wanted to show us news from the previous day or 4 hours earlier. The stairs are very steep and one step in particular seems higher than the others - typical for an older property but I did fall up them twice. I merely point all the above out so you have a full picture. The cottage itself was beautiful and very well equipped - one of the best we have stayed in. Loved the beds and bedding and bath. Didn't get to use the outside space as mainly raining or when it wasn't we were out exploring. I expect it is fabulous in the spring/summer. The area is stunning and we all fell in love with it. It was a joy to wake up to the sound of the river and we had a large heron often visiting in the field in front plus all the other birds including owls in the evening. Everyone we met in the area was friendly and the food we ate fantastic - Cafe Curver, The White Hart and the quiche from the Spar are recommended.. Please thank the owner for us, we had a great stay. We would love to return but I think we have to see how the cost of living crises pans out.

Lovely cottage in a great location, just a short walk (1 minute) to the village pub, which does reasonable food (though not very friendly and need to book). Cottage is a nice mix of old and new. Lovely modern bathrooms, good towels and linen, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, but slightly tricky stairs. Generous welcome pack with milk, tea, biscuits etc. Great wood burner, but bring your own logs/kindling as the logs provided only last a couple of nights. Lounge is a bit small and would be cramped with more than 2-3 adults. Heating and hot water worked well and good to have a washing machine - though a washer - dryer would be helpful. Very quiet and peaceful, next to small river and view to the rear across fields. Good value for money. As mentioned in comments to the owners, the exit onto the road from the steep drive is dangerous. Might be OK if two people and someone stands in the road, but as I was on my own I had to drive out blind. I ended up parking the car in the village and walking to and from the cottage, which was inconvenient. Other than that an excellent property and stay. I would definitely come again, especially if the drive issue is fixed.

An outstanding traditional property with original features that offers everything you need. The bathrooms are spacious and quite new, with lots of very hot water and great water pressure we fought for the upstairs shower! Great to have the option to have twin beds, a rarity. With the beautifully rustic open fires lit Thorns is very cosy, with a home from home fee. We loved all the personal items giving character and personality. It is traffic free and so peaceful with stunning views of Wensleydale from every window. Guests were staying at the neighbouring properties did not disturb us - due to thick walls and offset parking. Supplies and equipment are well considered, we especially appreciated the fire lighters, kindling and logs. Agree with others, much better than it looks in the pictures, We left the cars at Thorns and enjoyed three different walks every day from the property. We walked into delightful Hawes for our evening meals - took head torches as it is so dark! Many thanks for the extras - cheese and cake, a lovely gesture and yummy! Overall we had a lovely stay Thorns is comfortable, peaceful and very well equipped.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bill's cottage in Bainbridge.

This was a lovely, clean, well equipped and thought out cottage in a wonderful setting which was well located for exploring this part of the northern Yorkshire Dales. Stephanie, the owner, was very helpful in our initial 'access' conversation about the cottage and in providing local information. She also checked with us whilst we were there that we were happy and enjoying our stay with our needs being met. We initially struggled with the technology of a new tv set in the property but that was quickly resolved for us when we raised it. Lovely TV although we did not need to use many of the extra features available on it. Perhaps more of an ' idiots guide' could be left for future foolproofing the use of this TV. Don't like Sykes new website with the cottage reference search down the bottom and the ' hard sell' messages (one booked two minutes ago etc) when you are looking at a cottage online. Also popups adverst when looking at other sites reminding us of properties we had booked.
