Snaptrip says

Chapel Cottage is highly praised for its peaceful and idyllic location, offering a cosy and homely atmosphere. Guests appreciate the proximity to walking routes, wildlife, and the charm of the nearby steam railway. The cottage's cleanliness and the thoughtfulness of the owner, including welcome treats, contribute to a delightful stay.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of guests found the cottage to be clean and tidy, with specific mentions of fresh-smelling linen and a spotless kitchen. However, a few noted areas for improvement, such as a dirty oven, which slightly lowers the score.

The cottage's location is consistently lauded for its tranquillity, beautiful scenery, and convenient access to walks and attractions. The presence of the steam railway is a unique and appreciated feature, enhancing the overall experience.

Guests describe the cottage as cosy and comfortable, with a homely feel. Some guests mentioned that the furniture could be updated for added comfort, and that the double bed was softer than preferred, which slightly affects the score.

While the cottage is well-equipped for a pleasant stay, some guests reported issues with maintenance such as unreliable remote controls, a cracked bathroom sink, and a worn bath. These comments suggest room for improvement in this category.

The owner's thoughtfulness is evident through gestures like providing homemade flapjacks and setting up baby equipment. Although such personal touches are highly appreciated, they are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Grosmont 1.5 miles. An attractive mid-terrace cottage nestled amidst beautiful countryside, in the small hamlet of Esk Valley, near Grosmont. Originally an old railway property, it is the perfect spot for a relaxing holiday, with the advantage of watching the steam trains on the North York Moors Steam Railway passing close by. Entry to the cottage is via the back door, into the spacious kitchen with a dining area to one side. This bright and cheerful room leads into a charming sitting room, with comfortable sofas set around a cosy open fire, ideal for warming your toes on a winter’s evening! With a lovely homely feel, the cottage feels warm and inviting. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, both with superb views over the glorious scenery. The immediate surrounding countryside is a haven for nature lovers and a walkers’ paradise, with a network of public footpaths from the doorstep, including the popular Rail Trail that takes you to Goathland. The small village of Grosmont can be reached either on foot or by winding country lanes and is the home to the steam railway. Wander around the engine sheds, watch the trains puffing in and out of the station, or partake in tea and cakes in one of the tempting tea rooms, including the converted school. The local inn serves tasty home-cooked food and the art gallery has many interesting exhibits. Just a short drive brings you to the historic seaside port of Whitby, with its long sandy beaches, famous Abbey and picturesque harbour. With pretty inland and coastal villages to explore and the nearby market towns of Pickering and Helmsley an easy drive, Chapel Cottage provides an excellent base for a family holiday.

The village of Grosmont lies in the centre of 'Heartbeat Country’ and offers a general store, post office, cafes and a pub. The village is close to many lovely villages, walks and the coast. The popular resort of Whitby is close by and is well worth exploring.

Having all the information about the keys , directions and bin collection written down was very helpful to refer to later . Loved the info about the cottage and surroundings in the folder .

The Owner and the neighbours couldn't have been more helpful and friendly - especially as I left my phone at home...with the key code on it :-O The place is super clean and tidy and had everything we needed for our break. One or two of the fixtures and fittings are a little "tired", and the double bed was softer than we're used to but we'll work round that when we stay next time. None of this detracted from the amazing location!! So, so quiet and peaceful for us, no traffic noise or shouty neighbours, just the birds, the cows and the occasional steam or diesel train passing by. Right on the Rail Trail, and the local village is easy walking distance (for us) for any provisions you need. Can't wait until next year :-)
