Dale View is a well-equipped and spacious cottage in the charming village of Sleights, appreciated for its proximity to Whitby and local amenities. Guests have enjoyed the comfortable furnishings, secure garden, and the thoughtful touches on arrival. While some maintenance issues and neighbour noise have been noted, these have not detracted significantly from the overall positive experiences.
The property generally meets cleanliness standards, but there are recurring mentions of areas overlooked by cleaning, such as dog mess in the garden and dirty ovenware. Some guests noted the need for a deeper clean, suggesting room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its convenience to Whitby, local shops, and attractions. The village of Sleights offers a good base for exploring the Yorkshire coast and moors, contributing to a positive experience.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the property spacious, with a secure garden and a cozy log burner adding to the comfort. However, some guests experienced issues with bedroom temperature and shower water heat.
The property boasts well-received facilities such as a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable furnishings. Maintenance issues like non-working locks on bathroom doors and a loose bannister rail have been flagged, indicating a need for attention to detail.
While guests have mentioned lovely touches on arrival, such as flowers and a bottle of fizz, there is not enough information to determine if such gestures are consistent or guaranteed, thus a score cannot be provided.

Place needed a good clean - walls and woodwork dirty especially the stair banisters posts, kitchen area, entrance areas. Cobwebs everywhere (on doors, walls, lights, ceilings, cupboards etc), things were not moved when vacuuming done so under tables, chairs and especially bedside tables were dirty (thick with hair and dust under tables around beds and even bits if bread/food). Main shower tiles were brown and needed a good scrub. We don't think any of the tiled floors get mopped regularly as there was tea stains in the lounge, food stuck to the floor in the kitchen and dining room etc. Place mats on dining table were dirty with previous meals etc etc Boiler was not working properly when we arrived as it had lost pressure and needed the system topping up - and is loosing pressure somewhere). Water in showers never really got hot especially downstairs shower and never if more than 3 showered (hot water in tank used up we suspect!). Kitchen was well equipped but lacked work surface so preparing a meal for 6 was difficult in the space around the hob and most oven things had to be put through dishwasher before use. Only one tea-towel supplied (take your own!). In past cottages we have always found some left behind salt /pepper, cooking oil etc, foil etc - nothing at all here (take everything you think you would need and don't expect a welcome pack!!!) Toilet in main bathroom not fixed to wall properly and loose and had been for sometime and the sink leaked. Garden gate broken and did not close securely - check before you let your dogs out and the lights in the garden broken and slabs very slippery. Generally the property needed deep cleaning, maintaining and checking by the owners more frequently. It is certainly not 5* as advertised we would give it 3 at most. And as others say, the neighbour does play music/TV at all times and bangs on the walls especially in the night. The pub in the village is permanently closed and the hotel only open to non-residents if space allows! Sleights and the area are lovely and the property has real potential, and should have been lovely, just didn't live up to it.

The house is very well equipped, stylishly decorated and very spacious, especially as we were just two couples. We enjoyed the wood burning stove (when we eventually remembered to buy firelighters, kindling and matches!). The house is well situated, with Whitby and other coastal towns and villages a short drive away. There was plenty private parking and the house was within walking distance to the station (easy on the way there but be prepared for an uphill trek on the way back). We wanted a quiet relaxing getaway and Dale View didnât disappoint.

Toilet in main bathroom not fixed to wall properly and loose and had been for sometime and the sink leaked. On our last night water started dripping through the lounge ceiling, we think from the toilet, this was not a new thing looking at the ceiling crack, peeling paint and staining - we left the property with a bucket in the middle of the lounge floor catching drips (and the maintenance company informed - feel sorry for the people who arrived after us for the Easter weekend!). Garden gate broken and did not close securely - check before you let your dogs out and the lights in the garden broken and slabs very slippery.
