Guests say

Harbour Hideaway is a well-received holiday cottage in Whitby, praised for its spaciousness, cleanliness, and prime location close to the town centre. Guests appreciate the comfortable furnishings, ample parking, and well-equipped kitchen. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

The property is generally described as clean and well-kept, with several guests noting it as spotless. However, a few reviews mention areas needing attention, such as a stained mattress protector and skirting boards, which slightly lower the score.

The location is highly praised for being close to the town centre, amenities, and transport, with the added bonus of off-road parking. The convenience and ease of access contribute to a high score in this category.

Guests find the property comfortable, with special mentions of comfy beds and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Some concerns about wobbly toilet seats and the need for more single beds are noted, but overall comfort is rated highly.

The property is well-furnished with a fully equipped kitchen, but some guests report maintenance issues like a non-working washing machine and wobbly toilet seats. The need for a deep clean and garden tidying are also mentioned, indicating room for improvement.

There is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the owner in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess this category. Therefore, the score is set to null.

Your booking conditions state that it is the owners responsibility to ensure the property is maintained and this is clearly not the case with this property. The bath could not be used either as the plug mechanism would not open meaning it could not be used. We did contact Sykes to see if we could switch to another property but this was not approved (or we could do it but would have to pay for both properties). Disappointed in the response from Sykes, protecting the owner before the customer. The result was we left the property a day earlier than planned and won't be using Sykes again. This property is potentially a risk to health with the level of dampness and should not be available until it is fixed. You have pictures /videos of the issues listed.

Children safe and secure. Everyone enjoyed the stay. A couple of problems were quickly put right, owner kept us informed throughout. Although quite pricey, would return.

Front and back gardens were very overrun with weeds and were in need of a good tidy. No locks on any bathrooms. Although just a 5 minute walk from the town centre there was a very steep hill which was unavoidable. This made it very difficult for the elderly and less mobile. House itself is in desperate need for a refresh, front and back doors very hard to open and close, but the inside was clean and had everything we needed. Washing machine is out in the back yard but the area was filthy with weeds, rubbish and damp so it was not used. Beds were comfy and plenty of hot water available. Having two parking spaces was very helpful. Unfortunately we would not stay here again.
