About this property

Dalbeattie 6.7 miles. Merse End is a beautiful, three-bedroom house situated along the scenic coastline of Rockcliffe, near Dalbeattie. Perched on a peaceful private single track road, right on the edge of the bay of the Urr, this idyllic property offers breathtaking views and sleeps six, perfect for families and friends seeking a refreshing, seaside break. After admiring the spectacular views of the rocky beach and coast from the property’s beachfront lawn, walk up to the house to find another large front lawn with a furnished patio area so you can enjoy your breakfast and dinner outside, watching the sun dip in and out of the horizon. After a long day at the beach, slip around to the rear entrance of the house to have a quick rinse in the ground-floor wet room, wash off the sand and saltwater. Chefs will be able to cook up a feast in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, fitted with a Smart TV so you can have dinner and a movie. Let the food settle as you stretch on the plush sofas in the sitting room and bask in the warmth of the woodburning stove. Those with mobility issues can take advantage of the ground-floor bedroom where they’ll be able to sink into the large double bed and marvel at the coastline beyond the French doors, as well as the ground-floor bathroom with both a large bath and walk-in shower. Then head up the stairs to find a snug with a selection of games and DVDs, and a telescope for aspiring astronomers. As the day winds down, retreat to either a twin room or the master super-king and sip on a glass of wine as you enjoy the unspoilt views of the coast at dusk from the balcony. Tear yourself away from your haven to enjoy a delicious meal at The Anchor Hotel Kippford, or drive up to the town of Dalbeattie where you’ll be spoilt for choice of eateries, and supermarkets for when you need to stock up the fridge. You can also stroll through Dalbeattie Forest Town Wood and feed the ducks at the pond or take an educational trip to Dalbeattie Museum. Once you’re ready for more adventure, head over to the lovely town of Kirkcudbright and marvel at the exhibitions and displays at Dark Space Planetarium, admire the art at Broughton House & Garden, a Georgian mansion converted into an art museum with a Japanese garden, then walk along the marina harbour before going to savour a traditional Scottish meal at The Castle. On you way to Kirkcudbright, pop into Castle Douglas and sample the many flavours of its independent delis, bakers, butchers and greengrocers. Take a boat trip to Threave castle or enjoy the beautiful grounds of Threave gardens. As you journey up to Dumfries, stop at Mabie Farm Park, a small amusement park with a petting zoo, then continue up to the town centre to Dumfries Museum with its local and prehistoric exhibits as well as an outdoor camera obscura, and walk across the 15th-century Devorgilla Bridge to take in the scenic views of the River Nith. Make Merse End your next beachside escape.

The attractive country town of Dalbeattie is nestled in the south west of Scotland. The town sits within a wooded valley on the River Urr and provides access to the picturesque Solway Coast with its miles of beaches and pretty fishing villages. Dalbeattie is originally known for its granite quarry, which exported stone all over the world, most notably for the Eddystone Lighthouse and Thames Embankment. Today it is renowned for its outdoor activities with the world famous 7stanes mountain biking complex nearby as well as forest walks in Glentrool, where you can follow in the footsteps of Richard Hannay in The Thirty Nine Steps. Dalbeattie and the surrounding area offer panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Lake District and the Galloway Hills. A great location, which has something for everyone.
