Simmer Dim is a well-received cottage, praised for its cleanliness, beautiful surroundings, and cosy atmosphere. Guests appreciate the rural location for peaceful breaks and the proximity to local attractions. The property is described as well-equipped, with a welcoming owner. Some guests mention small bathrooms and limited headroom in places, but these are minor points in otherwise glowing reviews.
The cottage consistently receives high commendation for its spotless condition, with multiple guests highlighting its cleanliness as a standout feature.
The location is generally praised for its tranquillity and scenic views, though some guests note the road can be busy and suggest caution when exiting the driveway.
Comfort is well-regarded, with guests finding the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable. However, some guests note the limited space in certain bedrooms and the main bedroom's restricted headroom.
Facilities are considered to be very good, with a well-equipped kitchen and useful amenities like Wi-Fi, though there are mentions of Wi-Fi blind spots and a desire for more drinking glasses.
Guests frequently mention the thoughtfulness of the owner, including welcome packs and personal greetings. While such gestures are warmly received, they are personal touches and may not be guaranteed for every stay.

Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to two pubs, a village store, a leisure centre with a pool and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.

The cottage is spacious, very clean, and very well equipped. The cottage is well positioned to explore the coast along the Solway Firth. We visited Kippford and recommend the Ark, for lunch, and the Anchor, for an evening meal. There are some references to access concerning the road in previous reviews, but we found this to be no problem at all - just reverse into the driveway and use the mirror on the road when leaving the cottage. We highly recommend this cottage and would stay here again if ever we're visiting this area again in the future. Graham.

. We did a number day trips and this location worked perfectly for us. Two very minor points.. While there were salt and pepper shakers, both were empty, so if you are planning to make your own meals (and isnât that the point of a lovely cottage such as this) some very basic spices would have been helpful. Or list on the booking info to bring your own.. We had a wonderful stay!

Thereâs one property next door (semi-detached) and a farm nearby, but otherwise itâs lovely and remote, incredibly quiet and has wonderful views from the kitchen and garden. Some reviews mention the parking being an issue but the road was so quiet, we just reversed into the driveway, making it really easy to drive out again onto the road. Reversing out would make it more difficult, so why not just reverse in! Would highly recommend. Gavin was a really helpful host!
