Taigh Tearlach is a well-regarded cottage offering a clean, comfortable stay with a tranquil garden. It's praised for its location, being a good base for exploring the Isle of Skye. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, local information provided, and the property's peaceful surroundings. Some minor maintenance issues are noted, but overall, the property is recommended for its welcoming atmosphere and thoughtful touches.
Most guests found the cottage to be exceptionally clean and comfortable. However, one review mentioned a lack of thorough cleaning in certain areas, which slightly lowers the score.
The location is highly praised for being peaceful, convenient for exploring the Isle of Skye, and within walking distance to amenities. The proximity to traffic is noted but does not detract significantly from the positive feedback.
The cottage is generally considered comfortable and cosy, with a well-kept garden and good facilities. However, comments about a worn-out mattress and the lack of comfortable garden chairs suggest room for improvement in comfort.
Facilities are deemed nice and reasonably roomy, with a well-equipped kitchen. Some issues with maintenance, such as a clogged sink and an uneven washing machine, have been reported, affecting the score.
Guests appreciate the up-to-date local information, maps, and the enclosed garden. While gifts like a welcome note are mentioned, it's important to note that such personal touches are not guaranteed.
This semi-detached, two-bedroom property sits in the village of Kyleakin, on the scenic east coast of the Isle of Skye. Wonderfully presented throughout with off-road parking and enclosed garden, Taigh Tearlach welcomes families of three looking to spend some time exploring the Cuillin mountains and the surrounding countryside. After a day of fell walking, kick back in the lounge and make yourself comfortable on the settee, warming up beside the woodburner and thinking about the next adventure. Move into the kitchen and get to work on a hearty dish, making use of the electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge and freezer, with a dishwasher to assist with the cleaning up! Venture to the rear enclosed garden and enjoy a seat with a favourite tipple in hand. Back inside, freshen up in the bathroom before heading upstairs and drifting off in either the double or single bedroom. When you’re ready to explore, brush up on your local history with a visit to the Gavin Maxwell Museum and Eilean Ban, home to an exhibition on the remarkable Scotsman and celebrated writer, Gavin Maxwell, before exploring the 14th century Castle Moil located near to the attractive harbour. Head across the bridge to Kyle of Lochalsh, offering a convenience store and a handful of restaurants where you can treat the group to a meal out. One of Scotland's most well-known and visited sites is close by at Eilean Donan Castle, which is positioned at the end of a stone causeway on the banks of Loch Duich. For nature lovers and keen walkers, the Kyle and Lochalsh community parkland is a haven for wildlife and is perfect for a family picnic on the meadows. Escape to Taigh Tearlach and uncover this rural part of Scotland. EPC Rating: Band D. Licence number: HI-30079-F
Once a busy ferry station for passengers arriving on the Isle of Skye, Kyleakin is now a peaceful fishing community with views of the mainland over a small body of water thanks to the Skye Bridge. Kyleakin is home to a thriving local business district, hotels, and the Bright Water Visitor Center, which honours the history and fauna of the area around Eilean Ban, where Gavin Maxwell, a well-known novelist and naturalist best remembered for his book "The Ring of Brightwater," formerly resided. The Skye Bridge now uses the Isle as a stepping stone. From Kyleakin, buses frequently travel over the bridge to the bustling community of Kyle of Lochalsh.

For example, the sink drain in the bathroom is partially clogged, indicating a lack of maintenance. The bathroom lacks a shelf, making it inconvenient to use. The kitchen feels mismatched and does not create an inviting atmosphere. General cleanliness is also lackingâit seems that a thorough cleaning hasn't been done in years, especially in areas like the banister, cutlery drawer, and other drawers. Additionally, the front door cannot be used and has not been repaired for some time. While the garden is lovely, it only offers a beer table and no comfortable garden chairs, which significantly reduces comfort. In the small room, the mattress is worn out, with the springs pressing through uncomfortably, affecting sleep quality. The washing machine also runs unevenly, possibly due to improper installation or balance. In summary, the cottage unfortunately lacks cleanliness, attention to the needs of guests and necessary upkeep. The existing issues significantly impact the stay, preventing the cottage from reaching its full potential.

Check-in und -out problemlos. Insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert!

Although we had a car it was easy to walk into Kyleakin and there was a bus stop at the end of the road which we used to get the bus into Portree. Taigh Tearlach has a lovely enclosed back garden for wee ones to play or for enjoying outdoor eating. I think the owners have thought of everything to make their guests feel welcome and I would certainly recommend staying here.
