About this property

Garden Lodge is a quaint ground floor cottage resting within the world-famous Inverewe Garden, an exotic National Trust for Scotland botanical attraction, created by Osgood Mackenzie in the late 19th century. This unique lodge offers a memorable escape for a family or group of six to delight in a tranquil retreat in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Feel welcome as you enter this contemporary property, decorated to a high standard and boasting homely and comforting touches throughout its three ground floor bedrooms and inviting living areas. Rustle up a delicious home-cooked meal in the spacious kitchen/diner, benefiting from a lovely circular breakfast table where you can enjoy your morning coffee, alongside all the self-catering amenities you'll need during your stay. A formal dining setting can be found in the living/dining room, with a lovely long table for you and your guests to enjoy an evening meal, catching up over a bottle of wine and good company. Once you are settled in for the evening, get cosy in the lounge space whilst the woodburning stove creates the perfect ambience. When it’s time to get some rest, retreat to one of the beautiful bedrooms, comprising a double and two twins, hosting ample storage and pretty décor throughout. Prepare for a day of adventure in the shower room’s large walk-in shower, or sink into a hot morning bath in the sparkling bathroom. Wake up early and delight in an alfresco breakfast in your very own private garden, taking in the glorious sunrise with your loved ones in this peaceful setting. As dusk nears and the sun starts to set, Inverewe Garden begins to empty and you and your guests have free reign of the lush, sub-tropical-style oasis, filled with eucalyptus, Chinese lantern flowers and Californian lilac, meandering down to the shores of Loch Ewe. Wander the gardens, taking in the unique scents and perfumes of the rare and exotic plants, from Wollemi pines, Himalayan blue poppies and rhododendrons from China, Nepal and the Indian subcontinent. Enjoy the locally sourced food at Osgood’s Café for an afternoon lunch, or grab a silky cup of coffee at the Bothy in the morning as you explore the area, before heading over to the visitors centre to plan your day. Take a leisurely stroll over to the charming village of Poolewe, home to a village shop, weekly market and a hotel offering a welcoming pub and restaurant, or alternatively venture over to Gairloch, a stunning village community with a local butcher’s, museum, takeaways, leisure centre and a golf course. Take a walk along the stony, secluded beach in Gairloch, offering breath-taking views of rugged moorlands and far-reaching views over to the Isle of Skye, or visit Firemore Beach, just under seven miles away. Make Garden Lodge a stop along the magnificent North Coast 500, with the staggering route running right through Poolewe, offering you the chance to explore winding back roads and beautiful bends through Scotland’s finest coastal scenery! Discover a wealth of adventure activities throughout this exciting area of the Highlands, including the Pinewood Trail and the Kernsary Path on the estate, where you can spot pine martens, buzzards and even stag. Head to the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve, within easy reach, or spend a day out on a boat cruise with Wester Ross Sea Adventures. It's a comfortable and beautiful cottage to stay in, with all the facilities we needed for a young family, and plenty to do nearby if you like exploring the gardens and range of beautiful local beaches. The cafe at the GALE Centre, and toddler sessions in the Poolewe Pool, were indoor highlights. We couldn't get a standard TV connection to work, but you can watch TV online through iPlayer / Prime / Disney+ etc. through the Smart TV if you have accounts (WiFi is fine for this, especially if you turn the quality down). We hope to come back again soon!
