Guests say

The Shieling is a cosy and comfortable cottage in the Northern Highlands, appreciated for its well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and warm log burner. Guests enjoyed the peaceful location and found it ideal for hill walking and relaxing evenings. Some concerns were raised about space and storage for larger groups.

There is no specific mention of cleanliness in the reviews, so it is not possible to provide a score for this category.

The location is described as quiet, peaceful, and lovely, making it an ideal base for hill walking and enjoying the area. Proximity to a shop and the village is also mentioned positively.

Guests found the beds comfortable and appreciated the warmth provided by the log burner. However, concerns about seating and space for larger groups suggest that comfort may be compromised when at full capacity.

The kitchen is well-equipped according to guests, and the presence of two bathrooms was a plus. However, issues with storage, seating, and noise from the boiler room indicate that facilities and maintenance could be improved.

There are no mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the host, so it is not possible to provide a score for this category. It should be noted that such gestures, if provided, are a bonus and not guaranteed.

Living room area, sofa, and kitchen are looking tired but still serviceable so didn't really bother us but felt disappointing for the price. Generally the cottage needs a good clean and lick of paint especially the living area. The bathroom upstairs and bedroom down stairs had doors which didn't open fully which made access difficult for my elderly father. Our bedding, towels and bathroom were clean and comfortable but towels could be larger. The people in other cottages, the permanent residence were friendly and welcoming and the village is a good central point to explore. Overall its a good base for exploring Scotland and although cottage was a little disappointing we still enjoyed our stay.

Cottage was lovely and plenty of firewood was supplied.

Very quiet and peaceful. It was lovely playing games round the log burner at night. So cosy. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay. There is a garage with a small shop just a 5min walk away and a co-op in the village. Our only complaint was that it wasn’t long enough! Plenty to do and explore in the area. We will hopefully be back.
