What our customers say about their holidays

    • Nicola - Verified booking

We had a large group staying in this place - 4 adults, 3 toddlers and 2 dogs.

The location is brilliant as it’s just 30 seconds away from the beach, plus it’s right near the fish and chip shop, a one stop shop and a pizza shop. As for the house it’s more of a ground floor and basement. The upstairs is a flat. On the ground floor there is the living room which is lovely and it has a large dining table. Next to that is the en suite bedroom and then next to that are three steps down into the kitchen. The kitchen is tired and wasn’t great for such a large group. There was a small under counter fridge and a dishwasher that really struggled to wash anything even though we rinsed everything first. The hob is electric and took a while to heat up and the oven had no markings on the knobs so you had to guess which setting you were on and which temperature. Off the kitchen is a corridor and this has two small kids bedrooms and a nice family bathroom, although the window handle on the bathroom needs replacing as it doesn’t shut properly. Back to the kitchen and there’s a door down to the basement. Down here are two bedrooms - one double and one kids room. There’s also a large family bathroom down here but only really able to use the bath for the kids as the loo says no number 2s! There’s a play room with a little sofa and tv and toys which is brilliant and a washing machine and small under counter freezer. There are double doors off the play room that open out onto steps up into the garden. Back to the kitchen and there’s a back door which opens up halfway down some steps! The steps going up leads to the flat (so they also have access to the garden so not great for kids and dogs) and then down the steps goes to the garden, which is paved. There is a hot tub which I only used once as it felt cold. I emailed the owner and apparently it was supposed to run at that temperature (37 degrees) so I just left it and didn’t use it again. Overall, Sykes the company are brilliant and had a really easy website and helpful staff on the end of the phone. As for this property, it was ok and the best thing was how near it was to the beach. A lot could be done to make this property amazing eg taking care of the tired kitchen, taking care of the furniture including the tired playroom sofa and fixing the window handle in the main bathroom.

The location is really what makes the property - right by the beach, corner shop, pub, restaurants.

As others have mentioned the bedroom downstairs smelled of damp, and there's a recommendation to run the dehumidifier that's in the room, but this would be noisy at night. The downstairs loo can't be used for a poo as it blocks. The biggest issue was the lack of curtains or blinds in the sitting room which fronts on to the road which has many pedestrians even at night, so you're on display. The front room has the main dining table and tv, so don't expect cosy privacy. Also as others mentioned the property could do with some care and attention. It's all a bit tired and lack of attention to detail. The hot tub is a nice bonus and works well, although the instructions left for visitors don't match the tub itself. The instructions for the wifi state that there's a 40gb download volume cap and ask you not to stream video - this doesn't make sense as they have a broadband BT router and BT don't offer a volume capped service.I suspect there's confusion with the download speed cap, and so there's no problem using the smart tv with Netflix.

The apartment was clean and in excellent condition.

The equipment was very good. However, the parking situation was unacceptable. Not only was this apartment the only one that didn't have a parking space, the parking of the other residents directly in front of the window was unreasonable, especially because the window sill was only a little more than a meter above the street. When the parked cars parked or drove away, the height of the exhaust was at window level. Thus, the exhaust gas was blown directly into the windows of the apartment. A simple regulation that vehicles have to park with the exhaust pipe facing the road would have helped here. Since almost all parking spaces were occupied, the only view we had from the windows was the view of the exhaust pipes. We have documented this photographically and will spread this in the appropriate social media. In this condition, this apartment was by no means worth the rent.

      The kitchen was great.

The basement was strange but we got used to it. The back bedrooms and bathroom were well presented and comfy The first bedroom on the right was very disappointing. The bedding was solid. The pillows were flat. No hanging space for clothes. Ensuite was a small cupboard, good job we didn't bring a cat!. The shower was grubby with dirt in the grouting. Under the front window there was a constant drift of paint or plaster flakes from the wall! Very strange. We couldn't get the TV to work so we phoned the number given, which was the wrong number. The new number was on answer machine. Left our details but no one bothered to respond. That just about summed up the care they offer their customers. We made our holiday great despite the disappointing accommodation. We will not be using this again.

Property is an excellent position, 2 mins from the beach Housekeepers let the property down, no response.

Nappy left outside lower ground floor, and dog poo in garden. Outside shower room had not been cleaned as there was paper on the floor. Boiler problem, no hot water & heating, no response from housekeeper. Sykes responded, however it takes a while to get through. Direct contact was made with owner which was much quicker. WiFi password has been changed so no access, the password in the visitors guide has been blanked out. Three of us tried the password on back of router multiple times, we had to leave a day early due to me having to do some work and attend a teams meeting. Entrance could do with a make over, door propped open with pebble to prevent it from locking. Not good if you have small children or dogs.Letterbox hanging off and rusty nail hanging off letterbox
