What our customers say about their holidays

    • Hilary - Verified booking

Property was a good base to visit surrounding areas from.

The cottage was of a good size , comfortable and warm, and had every thing you’d require for your stay, from washing up liquid to kitchen roll to every utensil you’d ever need. The garden was huge, with a stream running along the bottom which my dog thoroughly enjoyed a wee paddle in. Plenty parking space if travelling by car. The owners had also left some tea, coffee , milk in the fridge and biscuits which was very much appreciated. Another lovely thought/treat that was left , was doggy treats , which the dog loved, a ball and some poo bags. Communication between owner and myself was excellent, they gave clear directions of how to get there and let me know that the place was now available to use. When there, the owner came to introduce himself, which was nice to be able to put a face to the name. There are local shops right on the doorstep , a grocery shop , butchers shop etc. The railway is within walking distance if wanting to travel without a car. Would recommend this place to stay and would consider a return visit in the future

The whole long weekend was amazing from start to finish. Property is stunning and very spacious, log burner was lovely. Huge space on the grounds for kids (and adults) to play safely. We had 4 adults and 2 kids staying for 3 nights and we had everything we needed for everyone. Host Emily was absolutely brilliant and nothing was a bother, very accommodating and had fresh eggs in the property on our arrival. Emily was also amazing with our 2 girls, taking them to feed the animals and bringing us wee bits for our snowmen we built when we were there as we woke to a white out on the 2nd which was perfect for us. Donald was definitely a highlight for the girls too, fair to say they loved him. We all said we would definitely return in the future as it was a brilliant weekend. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to book.

I can and would recommend both Sykes cottage but also the wonderful accommodation The Knowe Lower in Taynuilt which we rented.

Sykes Holiday Cottage site was easy to use. I found the accommodation in the area that we wanted. Booked and paid for it on line. We than received confirmation emails, and details for making contact with the house owner to pick up key. On arrival we were delighted with everything, the location in the village, the house was just as described it was clean, warm and spacious, everything we needed was there, pleased to even find baking bowls etc. We were also so touched at the welcome pack - milk, tea , sugar and the extra touch prosecco and shortbread. Many thanks to Iain the owner, we were using house as a base to stay in for new year, whilst spending time with family in village over new year, but it is an ideal location for people wanting to see the surrounding area. Will definitely use again.

What a wonderful cottage, place, and host. We simply cannot recommend Criffel Glen highly enough. Set within a working farm you truly do get a sense of being away from the rat race. If the 7 goats who potter around the place in their little gang don't bring a smile to your face then nothing will. Emily, who owns the cottage, is a wonderful host who makes you feel extremely welcome. Although don't let her talk you into climbing the hill (Criffel) after which the cottage is named. It is hard work!!!! Only kidding. The views from the top make every step worthwhile. The cottage is spotlessly clean and has everything you could want in a home from home. Beautiful place. We'll be back.

Holiday at Lower Knowe was amazing.

The cottage had everything we needed and more. The owners had left us a bottle of Prosecco and also fresh milk, tea, coffee and sugar. Facilities were great, couldn't get over how much room there was, we felt right at home. Cottage was very clean and tidy and very cosy. Village is amazing, all you need right on the doorstep and the people who live there were so welcoming. Ian and Shirley, the owners were great, we just had to phone if we needed anything, but everything was there so we didn't have to phone. Our 2 dogs loved their holiday too, they settled in to cottage no problem and enjoyed all the lovely walks close by. Easy travelling distance to Oban, which was a definite plus for us.
