What our customers say about their holidays

    • Daryl - Verified booking

Ten of us and two pooches enjoyed our stay at Cariad Cottage.

The location is convenient for some lovely seaside visits and the setting allowed us a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cottage itself has all the amenities you need, including laundry area with washing machine and tumble dryer which is great for muddy clothes, swim suits and towels. The kitchen was well equipped so it felt like a home from home. Though the hot tub and games room were great additions, both need some maintenance. The pergola surrounding the hot tub could do with a paint and some additional lighting (the intermittent flashing fairy lights were slightly jarring at night) and us adults couldn't play pool and darts as intended because there was only one dart and no white ball for the table. The kids in the party made do anyway but it was a shame for us not to fully make use of that space. We were concerned that the hot tub wasn't maintained over our stay - the water line was a bit grubby after a couple of uses (owing to there being ten of us) so we didn't use it on our last full day. General cleanliness was fine but there were some dusty, cobwebby corners and one of the upstairs bathroom bins was full on arrival, as well as some dirty plates in the cupboard (presumably put straight away from the dishwasher without being checked over). Other maintenance issues include a loose tap on the upstairs bathroom sink and the downstairs en suite wet room could do with more effective waterproofing to prevent the water spilling out onto the bedroom floor. We were slightly disappointed that we didn't feel as welcomed as some of the reviews suggested we would. We only happened to bump into the owner when we were asked to move our car from the side of the house to allow their vehicles access. Our kids were also asked to take the owners' dogs back down the lane to their home; we were confused by this as we understood that they would be roaming about. The kids then worried about interacting with them when they did see them which made us feel like a bit of a nuisance. We would recommend a stay at Cariad Cottage based on the beautiful location and the ability to stay with a large group, but some aspects did leave us slightly underwhelmed particularly after reading previous reviews.

A wonderfully located cottage with beautiful surroundings.

The owner, Ray, was very welcoming and friendly and left us a thoughtful arrival package which was lovely. There was also a very helpful information booklet about the house and the area. The cottage was very spacious with absolutely everything you need for a comfortable stay. It was clean, fresh and lovingly decorated. The piano at the top of the stairs was a hit with the children. There is a private decked area out the back with a large hot tub, which was magically lit at night with the use of fairy lights. A definite added delight. The working development of the games room was an added bonus too, as the children spent lots of time on the pool table and ping-pong table. There is a small outdoor play area that had a trampoline, swing and tree house that were all disable friendly, which was perfect for us, as we had disabled family members in our party. We had fresh eggs delivered to our cottage one morning from the chickens on site and the owners dogs were lovely, friendly and well behaved. They played with our dog whenever they were out, which was lovely to see. There were horses on the land to go and see and the lovely little lakes to walk around. The Fantasy Farm Park, which is only about 10 minutes drive, is an absolute must. It was very reasonably priced and we spent the whole day there. You can feed and pet the animals, go on a short nature walk, ride the rodeo, race the go-carts, peddle the boats and much more. The tractor ride around the field was brilliant. The supermarkets are about 25 minutes drive away, with Tesco, Morrisons, Home Bargains and Iceland in the same area, along with a few smaller ones. Some will actually deliver to the cottage. On the whole, the stay was absolutely way and above our expectations. Ray is an absolute credit as a host and all the party had an amazing stay. We will definitely be back again.

A great base for exploring West Wales - friendly, accommodating owners too.

Eight family members and one dog very much enjoyed our stay in this clean and spacious accommodation. There were three good sized double bedrooms with spacious ensuite bathroom facilities and a compact twin room, but plenty of room on the landing for storage of cases etc. The owners were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, attending to a minor maintenance issue immediately. In a tranquil inland setting the cottage is ideally placed for visiting coastal towns and there are walks from the doorstep for canine friends. The owners dogs, Archie and Barkus were very friendly - eager to meet and greet. Lovely organic farm nearby for vegetables and, if in Lampeter, there's also a great store there that does all manner of gourmet and everyday produce and lovely bread - Watson and Pratts and Lampeter Bakehouse. Anyone looking for Welsh quilts and blankets might like to check out the array of vintage stock at Jen Jones (Llanbydder). New Quay offers paddle boarding, kayaking and dolphin watch boat tours (we were lucky enough to see them in the bay from the harbour side). Llangrannog (down steep twisitng lanes) also seems to offer surfing and surf kayaking - when the weather permits (maybe not during storm Francis which made it's presence felt during our stay) - and there is RNLI cover too. Thanks to Ray and Dawn for a great stay.

Great cottage and owners were lovely.

However it said it sleeps 11 which is a bit of an push! It comfortably sleeps 8 with one main bathroom and two en suites. 11 people is massive squeeze consider seeing there is no place to put an extra sofa bed/single bed apart from the living room or landing area. The house itself was great and the hot tub was brilliant. Only recommendation would be for the hot tub or outside area to have some sort of cover and somewhere to put towels on a rainy day! Also the oven barely cooked any food so cooking for 10 people took forever - with a waiting time for a pizza of an hour! Needs a bigger oven and fridge to accommodate larger numbers of people. Rooms could do with a refresh - especially the beds and mattresses, which were creaky and lumpy! However we had a really good stay and the owners and the area was lovely! Just a few modifications and the stay would have been perfect. Need to advertise this as an 8 person house with the option of 2 spare beds. Don’t turn up with couples and expect them to sleep on the landing or in someone else’s room!

We stayed here to celebrate my parent’s 30th anniversary, it was the first time all 10 of us had stayed together.

There was plenty of room, enough seats and didn’t feel like we were on top of each other. It wasn’t perfect, there was a few marks, stains on the bed, rip in sofa, cobwebs etc but this didn’t bother us, it actually put us at ease as we had kids. There were plenty of places to visit if you have a car. The kitchen was well equipped, it has a slow cooker and air fryer which was very handy. We brought a lot of essentials like Tea, cooking oil, cleaning stuff etc but there was stuff there ready for us to use. The only thing I would say is it could do with better frying pans, considering it hosts 11 people the two were very small and not in the best condition to use. The twin room was also quite small and probably suited better for young children as the ceiling is at a slope so easy to hit your head when in bed. Overall we had a lovely time.
