What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jane - Verified booking

The view as we walked around to enter the carriage took our breath away and as we opened the door, stood on the mat and surveyed the carriage, just knew our choice of accommodation was first class.

Never have we immediately felt so at home. The carriage shone with cleanliness and the facilities were superb. The owners clearly take a deep pride in caring for the carriage and provide quality furnishings, from the comfortable bed with The White Company bedding to some Le Creuset pottery. There was a more than ample selection of cleaning materials/liquids etc, but we had the impression the owners did not need covid regs to tell them to ensure a clean environment be maintained. The privacy and solitude of the environment were restorative - there should be a warning sign that visitors will sleep like logs and awake to the sound and sight of the waves making it quite a struggle to get out of bed! But as we stayed in November, just had to get up and light the log fire - truly lovely. By way of recommendation, the owners may wish to be aware that the sofa has now passed its sell-by date - the cushions sink in the middle, have no support and slide forward during use, rendering it rather uncomfortable after a short while. However, we are confident it is on their radar considering how well maintained the property is. We also had the errmmm priviledge of staying as Storm Arwen hit on our final night - quite an experience as the carriage rocked in the gusts of 80mph wind (not for the feint hearted!). The storm upturned the patio furniture - we managed to retrieve the chairs but the table was stuck against the door with just enough room for us to exit but that at least did prevent the door from being ripped away in this most extraordinary weather. However, if we are honest, it would have been courteous to have at least had a text from either Sykes or the owners to ensure we were okay bearing in mind the cliff edge location. We did consider leaving early as news reporters advised keeping away from the coasts but decided it was safer to stay given the driving conditions and fallen trees on the roads. Nevertheless, we were planning a return stay even before our holiday ended. In fact, I think we'd like to live there!!

Fern Cottage in Aberporth is lovely, offers nearly everything you need for a great holiday.

The house is nicely decorated, and included all the facilities most people would need to make an enjoyable stay. The safe enclosed garden is a superb extra. The fact that no where in the village is that far to walk is also a real bonus. We did have some problems with the shower head (needs a new fitting to make it stay upright) but we were able to still use it during our stay. It might also be worth the listing stressing to anyone booking the cottage that the short walk up and down the hill to the beach/ local pub/car parking area might cause some people with mobility problems or families with small children an issue. We were okay with this but with no pavements and a reasonably steep hill to walk up we would expect anyone arriving without knowing this might be surprised and it could ruin their stay (although they ought to be aware before booking they are holidaying in scenic Wales) It's a shame that there are still regulations around the previous visitors book as we have been on UK cottage holidays for over 30 years and always find these a first stop in arrival as they are a very useful addition to help quick navigation to best places to visit/eat/shop in the area we are staying. Our stay was so enjoyable it left us knowing we will be booking to stay in that area again in the future.

The cottage was not clean when we arrived.

The problems were as follows: The cleanliness problems are as follows: - Black Dog Hair on Floor - Black Dog Hair in Bath - Black Dog Hair on Childs High Chair. - Floor Generally Filthy (Daughters Clothing on the Knees and legs went from White to Brown in 2 hours) - Dust on Lampshades collected with hair. - Dirty Bowl left under Sofa. - 5 Dog Poos left in the Garden (we checked when we arrived) - Crockery requires a clean before every use. More general problems include: - The shower Head does not retain its position. This is an easy fix. - The shower Shelf is Broken. This is an easy fix. - The drawer in the Kitchen (R of the Dishwasher) is broken. This is an easy fix. - There is Black Mould/Damp in the Master Bedroom which is where the cot is. This is noxious and needs to be dealt with and not hidden behind furniture. We told the owner and they had the cleaning company contact us. The cleaning company made 1 slot available on Monday which was not possible as they demanded we not be present in the cottage at the time and our 1-year-old knaps between 0930 and 11. They offered 1000. I was not prepared to spoil her day so I did a full clean myself on Sunday morning.

When we arrived the cottage was filthy, dog hair everywhere and used bedlinen and towels.

We asked for help and messages showed they had been read but we got no response. It was really upsetting, especially for our children. We had to clean the bathroom and strip the beds ourselves and organise to borrow bedlinen. This isn't what we should be doing on our holiday! We weren't able to enjoy the property as described for the first 2 days, but are still waiting for any compensation. The outside bins are over-flowing, the kitchen oven, microwave and cupboards have not been cleaned at all, cushion covers all need a wash, the bath plug doesn't work and basics such as tea, salt, toilet paper weren't provided. I have never experienced anything similar in many years of visiting West Wales. I have photos evidencing all of this. I truly can't understand not apologising or providing compensation. They haven't even bothered to return the bedlinen we borrowed yet and we are expected to keep using our time to chase. We have clearly not received the service we paid for and will be pursuing the matter if required. Everyone should receive a clean, comfortable welcome to start their holiday and if problems occur they should be communicated and addressed swiftly.

Clifftop Carriage is a real find.

It exceeded our expectations in every way - a perfect bolthole for a relaxing break for 2 people. The carriage is very well equipped with everything you need and quality fixtures and fittings throughout. A particular mention for a very comfortable king size bed and bedding - we slept so well. The combination of underfloor heating and the log burner works well and keeps the carriage cosy. The location is perfect with sea views from every window on one side of the carriage and decking and furniture for the sunny days. On the other side is off-road, secure parking right next to the carriage. It all feels very private and safe behind electrically operated security gates. Beyond the gate you are a stones throw from Aberporth beach or going the other way, you are similarly close to the clifftop path to Tresaith where The Ship Inn is recommended. We had one minor issue on arrival which the owner was quick to resolve with clear communication throughout. Overall, it’s clear that the owner takes pride in providing a really lovely place to stay. Highly recommended
