What our customers say about their holidays

    • Keith - Verified booking

This small house is pleasant, reasonably well furnished and best of all, in a quiet country location; a bit of a ghost village actually, and a mile inland from the sea in Aberporth.

It lies in the grounds of an expensive hotel where drinks at the bar might require a mortgage ! Unfortunately, when we arrived, a wheelie bin at the front door was overflowing with 6 or 7 weeks of rubbish stinking like a garbage dump. We complained and it was emptied 5 days later. Arriving after a 3 hour 30 minute drive to the property, we needed the loo. There was no toilet paper or kitchen roll provided. We complained and were directed to a shop which was a drive of 7 miles return. We had to buy our own loo paper and even our own salt and pepper. There were none of the normal ‘hospitality’ items - a few tea bags, coffee sachets, milk or anything else. Better introductory hospitality would only cost a pound or two. On day 1 the bathroom door jammed & could not be opened. The door lever/latch was not working. We spent 5 minutes crashing into the door to open it. Finally it gave way without damage. Since we could also have been locked into the bathroom, we stuffed a toothpick into the latch to keep it open until it is repaired. The availability of an adequate wifi signal was sporadic and slow. We could not use the catch-up TV and during the whole week I could only open my emails on my mobile phone. When it is working the internet speed is 29 Mbps. The property was devoid of instructions on e.g. the television or heating system, or when the rubbish is collected. There were no recommendations on local walks, shops or restaurants etc. (Tesco/Aldi in Cardigan). We like to keep a holiday let very clean, but there were no cleaning materials supplied. The good news is that following previous poor reviews the double bed mattress (firm) and the microwave have been replaced. Unfortunately when I removed the instructions from inside this new microwave in order to use it, they slipped down between the side of the fridge and the worktop. This does not prevent the microwave being used. Since the freezer compartment needs defrosting, when the fridge is turned off to do this, they can be retrieved. (Incidentally, when I logged in to the Sykes website, this property was not registered on my account, although 7 or 8 previous ones are still there).

We just wanted to pop you a quick message to say Thank you again for having us stay.

We stayed in Cattle Tree Cottage and it was phenomenal, so peaceful and relaxing, the extra touches of dog treats, poop bags, Prosecco and fresh milk, fresh ground coffee were prefect on arrival. The contact from Sarah from point of booking to arrival was second to non. The cottage to perfect and spotless a real home from home. We were sad to leave. For us personally it was a difficult holiday as we sadly lost one of our dogs prior to arriving so we wasn’t really looking forward to the break following this but is was just perfect for what we needed and Sarah and Bruce were very kind and understanding. Not to forget the Norwegian hot tub, simply stunning you can have this and hot or cold as you like, delicious! We also went on a boat trip with ‘A Bay to Remember’ to see dolphins Bruce helps with this and is very good highly recommend doing this. The area the cottage is situated in is close to lots of beautiful villages and costal towns with stunning beaches pretty much everywhere is dog friendly too which is a bonus. We will most definitely return and cannot recommend these cottages enough. We will shout from the rooftops about our trip.

I'd like to start by saying we had a brilliant holiday we used the cottage as a base to walk the coastal path.

The cottage is is a beautiful location but on opening the door the first thing we where hit by was a terrible smell of dog. We boiled up some coffee grounds to help get rid of the smell. The quilt was awful very strained. I did take photos. We normally have our sleeping bags with us in the car but I'd taken them out for this trip. If we'd had them I would have used them instead. The sink was very strained and needed a good clean. Again I do have photos. The carpet has seen better days. When we came to use the vacuum cleaner it gave off really strong dog smells. At one point we woke up to find we had no water. The owner lived next door but didn't answer her phone. I know she was poorly but she could have talked to us on the phone. We went with out water for over two hours not very nice when your thirsty. This could be the most amazing place with a bit of updating and cleaning. I would rather have just emailed Sykes with the photos really but couldn't find an email address.

Such a charming railway carriage that couldn’t be no closer to the cliffs edge.

Views were outstanding. The coast path is close by and although we didn’t see any seals or dolphins from the carriage we did see seals from the path. The balcony area is private and we enjoyed sitting outside even in October. One thing to note is the driveway was very tight and we just about got our Kuga through the gate to the parking space for our car. There is also a new house being built right next door. Whilst we were there there was no noise from the site. The carriage is tastefully furnished and had everything you needed to prepare a meal. The bed and furnishings were comfortable and internet was good. It was clean but some utensils needed re washing and the bins had bin juice at the bottom. The shower was warm and had a good output. It’s certainly one of the more private carriages in the area. Aberporth is a lovely place to stay and everyone we encountered was so helpful and friendly.
