What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kate - Verified booking

It was such a lovely holiday.

The cottage was beautiful. Comfy beds, lovely kitchen with huge table, beautiful walks around the farm. The lounge had 3 sofas so we could all comfortably rest and chat. The owners were lovely and helpful. On arrival there were some delicious brownies and tea, coffee, milk and cold water in the fridge. There were lovely little cards around the house with instructions which made things easier. The WiFi speed was really good, despite the card with the code saying it was slow! We were able to stream TV via out Roku which we brought with us so we could watch Disney with the kids. Is there a downside? The parking isn’t directly outside the property, you have to walk round through the courtyard and down a small passage and then down 2 steps, so remember to take shopping bags when you pop to the shops! We have a plug in hybrid and are getting a fully electric car soon, so it may be tricky in future as we will need to find electric charging points or plugs near where the car is parked…but this applies to any holiday rental. Maybe Sykes and other rental platforms can lobby the government to provide funding to install car charging points at holiday properties so that more people going electric can holiday more easily in the UK to boost the economy more?!

The BB house was excellent accomodation, spacious, well-specced and had everything that a family could need in three good sized bedrooms as well as decent sized living room and dining area.

It is directly linked to a farmhouse and the owner was very helpful and friendly However the description on Sykes website is incomplete as it says only 'ground floor accomodation' . In reality the apartment is accessed through a narrow downward sloping passage, with a right angle bend at the end and two steps with the doorway immediately to the left. This was a problem for us as my daughter is a wheelchair user and it was difficult to get her in and out of the apartment. As it was stated 'ground floor accomodation' with no mention of accessibility otherwise I did not expect this. The reference to the passageway and steps is buried in the directions to the apartment which one received after booking and is easy to miss However BB house was kept to a high standard, and I would recommend it to another family once they had no mobility issues. Please correct the listing to be clear that this property may not be suitable for persons with mobility problems. Otherwise the accomodation was very good.

Neil had maintained and decorated the cottage to make it a real home from home.

The bed was very comfy. The kitchen was fully equipped for preparing meals. The setting of the cottage is second to none. It was like being transported to a gentler era. We were fortunate to have good weather to be able to sit on the patio and watch the boats and the people pass by. Most people, be they local or visitors, stopped to chat (and to comment on such an idyllic spot). We learned lots about the canal and its workings by talking with the many volunteers who helped with the lock gates. The walks along the canal are easy and pleasurable. The parking is excellent but the winding stairs might be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. We chose it simply as a good centre to visit Althorp, Northampton, Stowe and Bletchley Park - but it was so much more! There was nothing not to like (except, perhaps Neil, that annoying glass lampshade in the lounge!) That aside, thank you for a fabulous stay!

Fantastic location right in the centre of all the fascinating canal activity.

Great pubs literally a stone's throw. Cottage full of character and tastefully decorated. WiFi and Televisions all worked well. Comfy bed. Plumbing and heating worked well too. Adequate parking right behind the property. Kitchen facilities very good. There were a few negatives but these did not in any way spoil our holiday and are included as they could simply and easily be rectified: The Velux skylight should be fitted with a blind else you're awakened at about 4.30am by the sunlight this time of the year. The bathroom washbasin tap assembly is alarmingly loose. The glass lounge light fitting is suspended at about 5'5" above the floor and banging your head on it becomes a daily annoyance. One of the front doorstep paving slabs is loose (and could be dangerous). All in all, this cottage is a little gem and is thoroughly recommended. Thank you very much.

We have had a lovely relaxing stay at Canal side Cottage.

The cottage was warm, cosy clean and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. We enjoyed watching the activity on the canal and people were very friendly, lovely woodland walks a really beautiful part of the country. The Boat Inn a nice pub serving good food and a shop where you could get any essentials needed, lovely Ice Cream, friendly staff, Canal Museum very interesting, nice cafe and the canal shop and Charlie who runs the boat trips all very friendly. It was nice to meet our Host Neil who certainly has chosen a lovely part of the country with the location of the cottage we wish him well for the future. We will return hopefully soon. Once again many thanks to Neil. Colin & Gwen Basingstoke Hampshire.
