What our customers say about their holidays

We celebrated our mother's 60th birthday here and had a great time.

The property has a great layout and we all enjoyed the hot tub. The staff we spoke to were also very polite and friendly. The property was well equipped, an ideal layout for everyone including the dogs and young children. The games room was great, even though it was shared we didn't see many people and it was lovely being in the countryside. The home made cake was a very nice touch and much appreciated. You need to be aware that the property is very remote (not the owners fault) so it is a very long walk to a local pub or town (we didnt do it as too far with young children). Suggestions for improvemenrt are that the hot tub wasn't warm on arrival and the wi-fi isn't the best if your staying in the building at the bottom of the garden (an idea for improvement could be to put some more wi fi extenders in). There were also a few cobwebs around the property. The check in and out times could also be looked at, as it felt like the 4pm check in was quite late (especially when your on holiday and you just want to get in) and the 9.30am check out could be increased to at least 10am to make it less stressful. Of course its understandable that cleaners need to attend, but when the check in time for other guests is 4pm then that's 6.5 hours to clean. Lastly the hot tub could do with being turned 45 degrees so that the back of the hot tub is facing the cottage, to allow you to see the lovely views from the mountains. Currently when the cover is off, this blocks your view. Again this is only a suggestion. Overall, we would recommend the property but sadly we wouldnt stay again due to the remoteness. However, we really enjoyed our stay and would like to thank the staff for their friendliness. Thanks for helping us to have a great time.

Directions need to be backed up with “these three words” and local signage and sign outside much bigger.

The farmer where we arrived first at was not happy at all and they get loads of guests turn up there. Picture shown on your site is taken from the bottom of the back garden or by drone. The front you actually arrive at is just a side wall. I had booked six bedrooms in the house but ended up with five and one in “The Old Donkey Shed”. Which was okay but I should have been advised. Phone reception is poor for most networks, WiFi was limited as only one and not very powerful router which we think served all five properties.. Three of the older wooden doors downstairs did not have handles to close them and had to be propped shut. One staircase did have any form of handrail that was dangerous. Downstairs toilet seat was broken on one side of back fitting when we arrived and wobbled around. My daughter’s partner temporarily repaired the shower head in Donkey Shed which was in pieces when they arrived, but it probably needs to be replaced. Kitchen well fitted and kitted, dining room good apart from ceiling light held together with clip ties. Lounge good, the only constructive suggestion is some blinds or similar on bifold doors as it is south facing and when the sun is out, and it was, with those bifold doors, every one is sitting in full sunlight until after 3.30 pm. We improvised with dog blankets and pegs. Another suggestion is avoiding beds with wooden foot boards as anyone over six foot tall cannot stretch out and constantly hurts themselves. Hot Tub was good. We had a good time despite everything.

We had the most amazing weekend at the old farmhouse, which was made even more special due to the beautiful weather we were fortunate to have.

A couple of practical things that could improve it would be: If the four poster room had an en-suite. It seems the number one room for size and gives an impact when you walk in and yet no en-suite. Increasing bathroom capacity would be good. Also the door on the kitchen should have a lock as it was time consuming to keep trying to hold it shut with a door stop that perhaps wasn’t quite heavy enough for the job whilst people were going in and out to the lovely large porch area to get loaded and unloaded. This was particularly challenging with small fast dogs and an infant. A good addition would be a stable door so that the bottom could be shut and the kitchen would also benefit from the stream of light coming into the porch. The door to the downstairs bedroom and bathroom area would also benefit from being able to shut properly. Another practical aspect is 9.30am is too early to get 12 people up and out. I do appreciate there has to be turnover time but feel 9.30 is pushing it. Kitchen additions - some wooden spoons please and a bigger toaster! Also it would be helpful to have a given time of hot tub check as the gate was left open without warning and with small fast dogs and an infant this was a bit of a worry. Overall the holiday was amazing with plenty of room inside and out. Would definitely recommend and yes would go again.

It was a lovely property, very comfortable and inviting.

The facilities were great and had everything we could have needed, didn’t end up using half of the utility things we brought like cloths and cleaning sprays. The oven could have done with a clean as whoever used it last had some overspill that was baked to the bottom and burnt when we used it causing a lot of smoke, had to cook with the extractor on full and doors and windows open. Also the oven didn’t cook things fast and could do with a new one. The extra game facilities were very fun and well equipped, we would have liked some outdoor lighting as we visited during the winter months and getting to the other buildings we had to use torches to avoid tripping on the cobbles and manoeuvering cars in that dark was extremely difficult. Our main concern with this property would be the roads on approach as they were single lane and not in great condition, we took to going very slowly as some of the bumps and pot holes were causing our cars to bottom out if we were not careful and on the way back we did have a car die and are not sure if the brutal roads contributed to that however there issues were not the fault of the house just a little warning to others. In summary though we had a wonderful time and would consider visiting again.

We have just returned from a brilliant family holiday at Turnip House.

The cottage itself was lovely and spacious, but also very cosy and comfortable; we loved the combination of the traditional features together with all mod cons. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and the homemade cakes and fresh flowers were a lovely touch. It was an ideal base for a family holiday, as the children had so much do on the farm itself; they were very excited to feed the pigs and collect eggs from the chickens; they played on the go carts and sandpit and loved all the space to run around. There's loads of land to explore, including a lovely 2 mile circular walk with waterside picnic area and lovely views. The owner Sara was really helpful in suggesting local things to do and on hand to deal with any requests. We had a couple of sessions at the swimming pool, which was stunning, and Sara even organised a local therapist to do hot stone massages for my husband and I in the spa area which was out of this world! We really couldn't fault the place and would love to go back again. Thanks Sara for making our stay so lovely
