"Well itâs advertised as having a small garden ,but all you get is the space under the fire escape which to use you would have to duck under the metal bar thatâs fixed there.
" The inside is very damp downstairs where the bedrooms and bathroom are located, the bathroom is very mouldy and needs completely gutting to fix the problems, and needs a large extractor fan and a deeper drain to enable the shower to drain away as the water just soaks the floor. The disabled lift is really old and outdated and is starting to rust, itâs also the only way to move between the levels inside, without having to go outside and use the fire escape to go up or down, so the property could definitely use an internal staircase . The property is situated within the beer garden of the pub, which is not ideal when customers are gathered there while using the pub. We did have one meal purchased from the pub which was very nice and the owners were friendly, and the nice little touches were the cream tea that was waiting for us on arrival and the fact that there were dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid and also some tea and coffee items available. Reviewed by Robert Aug 2020 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The above as can be seen is dated Aug 2020. Now in June 2023 it has not had any improvements and certain items within the property have deteriated even further. On arrival there were customers at the tables drinking etc and made no effort to enable us to walk pass with all our luggage and belongings. Many a evening we could not have the door or windows open due to the pub customers being noisy using unpleasant language The external staircase is very rusty in places with bird droppings on the handrail. The description of the property on the website is a candidate for Trade discription. The pictures are far from accurate as they show the 2 bedrooms and bathroom very light where in fact they are dismal and quite dark even in daylight. Reference is made about the shower above and after we used it the first time the water took ages to drain. We contacted the owner who managed to clear the drain, obviously this had not been done for months as it was virtually blocked. With all the bad points it is clearly not inspected by the agents. Cannot understand some of the feedback claiming that it is a desirable property.

Absolutely amazing.
We booked Carne Mill for a week in Feb as it was our 50th, and our Son's 25th, wedding anniversaries, our daughter & son-in-law also joined us. We travelled down through Storm Dennis which was interesting to say the least, especially crossing Dartmoor! 30mins before arriving we received a call from Pippa telling us that the storm had brought down the power lines to the house. Pippa was most concerned and was working frantically to get things sorted. We stopped off & bought some candles & when we arrived, at dusk, found the housekeeper, local electrician & the Electricity board all working hard to sort the problem. Not to be deterred we settled down to a romantic candle-lit evening of wine cheese & crackers and retired for the night. :-) The Electricity board worked through the night & power was restored by the following morning. What a delight Carne Mill turned out to be. The accommodation was spacious and of the highest standard. The kitchen had everything you could need & the bedrooms were a delight. Getting up in the morning & looking out over Gillan Creek was so restful and we did several walks straight from the house. The two swans in the creek would come over whenever we went outside and would happily take food from your hand. Right at the edge of Gillan creek, Carne Mill is perfectly placed for visiting the whole of the lizard. We enjoyed walking at the coast path from Kynance Cove, Church Cove and Helford & watching the breakers crashing at Mulion. We would thoroughly recommend this property.

The property was not clean.
Hairs and toothpaste found in the bathroom sink, dirty marks on the toilet seat, sticky marks and food crumbs on kitchen worktops, dusty, dirty surfaces and floors. Photographs provided to Sykes. The television did not work and it was clear from conversations with the owner that she was aware of this and therefore property listings are knowingly inaccurate. In my opinion, parking in a 'nearby street' is misleading. Guest are not made to feel welcome. There is no welcome pack and not basics left in the kitchen. Not even a teabag. No hand soap, or any soap to wash ones hands after visiting the toilet, on arrival at the property. Unfortunately, finding a dirty and unhygienic property outweighs any positives that this property may have. Furthermore, the attitude of the owner was poor as was the attitude of Sykes. The owner is in breech of contract, as stated in Sykes booking conditions, yet Sykes will not do anything about this. Furthermore, Sykes ratings clearly cannot be relied on and are not only unhelpful, but misleading when trying to choose a property. Therefore, I could not recommend Sykes to anyone.

We liked the âBeach Houseâ very much - it was ample for our needs.
The beds were comfortable and it had a lovely large kitchen. It was a shame that the tumble dryer wasnât working as we got extremely wet due to the weather and it would have been handy to dry clothes quickly. We found the heating controls problematic and one night when the temperature dropped we were struggling to keep warm. I donât think the radiator in the kitchen ever came on during our stay. There were a few cobwebs and accompanying spiders on the stairwell/ceiling corners but no real problem. It was tricky to get in and out of the shower due to the towel radiator blocking the screen. We had to manouver over the toilet to get in and out, but the bathroom was lovely and warm. The owner might want to make it clear about the rubbish arrangements. It was confusing to have a council notice and recycle options but it would appear that there was no recycling because a business contract was in place for rubbish removal. The house was ideally situated for us, central to the places we wanted to visit and walkable to the pub. I also took the dog for a walk to Polzeath which was great.
