What our customers say about their holidays

    • Janette - Verified booking

HOSTS Sonya and Paul were responsive, professional, friendly and very helpful.

They want you to have a wonderful time while you are staying at Silvermine. They are on hand if you need any help. But never intrusive. Paul and Sonya could teach other hosts how to run a holiday home to such high levels of customer satisfaction :) PROPERTY lots of space for our large group. Plenty of bathrooms , one of bathrooms had a bath.Thoughtfully decorated, comfortable beds, good quality towels and bed linen. Good quality pots and pans and sharp kitchen knives which is unusual in a holiday let. Cosy blankets for wrapping up on the sofa. Wood burner, fuel provided. Very clean. Outside area has a massive garden with the most majestic views whatever the weather. LOCATION for our 3 generation family it was perfect. We enjoy hiking, house on the SW coastal path a real plus, beach for little ones in walking distance and plenty of pubs and high end restaurants nearby. Handy location for nearby places to visit, Eden Project, Heligan, Lanhydrock and many more. AMENITIES hot tub was a perfect treat , good quality and plentiful fluffy towels provided. Our adult children and their partners enjoyed using the gym. We were able to store bikes in the gym, which is a real plus if you want to cycle. A huge smart TV for cosy nights in watching a film. OVERALL Silvermine really is a very special place, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend. We hope that we will be able to return again with our growing family. We will have many happy memories. Thank you Sonya and Paul. Our only negative comment was the garden chairs and loungers, which were lovely, but couldn't be used because the cushions were soaking, we would have liked to sit outside for lunch in the beautiful garden with its magnificent views. Just a thought maybe the cushions could be stored in the games room..

As usual the booking process with Sykes was simple and straightforward.

Updates and correspondence was informative, helpful and timely. As our holiday drew nearer we received a warm introduction email from Sonya and Paul. Straightaway they made us feel really special, and that nothing was too much trouble. They provided very detailed answers to the questions I had about the property and where it was appropriate they provided photograph evidence. Information about local attractions was also really helpful. On arrival at Silvermine we were blown away by the presentation of the property. The photos are lovely but do not do justice. Wow! Silvermine truly is wonderful! Not only that, the welcome we received was outstanding. Meeting Sonya and Paul was like catching up with old friends they were so warm and friendly. Achieving comfort, wellbeing and the best possible experience for their guests is clearly their priority. The lights were on, beautiful Christmas tree and decorations, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam. The kitchen is very well resourced with quality tableware, cookware and utensils. There was tea, coffee and fresh milk available. The provision of toilet rolls, hand soap and shower gel; bin liners and cleaning products including dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and cleaning spray sufficient for the duration of our stay was very much appreciated. Silvermine is comfortable, spacious, clean and tastefully decorated. Have to mention the gorgeous views from the front of the house! Stunning!! The website description is accurate. We enjoyed our stay at Silvermine so much I booked to return next Christmas before we left! Congratulations to Sonya and Paul for their first class service and excellent facilitation. We are looking forward to returning. Thank you.

Lovely cottage in a lovely location, great views too.

Lovely to welcome basket (I now have a new addiction to kernows line and ginger chocolate!). Really enjoyed being here however for the price I would expect the shower drain not to be clogged to the extent that it was. It would not drain on use which would be obvious to anyone rinsing the shower when cleaning it (which concerns me that it hasn't been cleaned well) and when I took it out it was covered in hair suggesting it has not been cleaned in some time. Reported to the agents but not sorted during our stay. I addition the bath tap leaked causing it to drip over the bathroom floor which as a cold unventilated house didn't dry very easily without using the bathmat supplies which was then soggy throughout our stay. Again, reported to the agents but not sorted during our stay. Listing needs to he a bit clearer regarding fencing for garden as was not suitable for my dogs as it was open down to a brook on one side meaning I couldn't just let them out there off lead. It should also be made clearer on arrival that everything is switched off including the fridge (a concept i totally understand but would not expect a fridge to be off). I had a food shop delivered on arrival and did not realise the fridge was not on. Thankfully a midnight snack made me realise but by this point it had ruined our freezer food.

      Honest review.

.. location wasn’t the best nothing really around apart from 1 pub (for local people) and a londis, closest supermarket about 20 minute drive each way. We did more driving than anything this last week nothing local that’s any good. Lodge itself. Jacuzzi was brilliant perfect for relaxing after a long drive everyday. Outside furniture seats just left out to ruin in rain which was disappointing. No bbq at the lodge, I think you had to request one from reception. No washing line of any kind to dry towels or bathing suits,(other 2 lodges do have one each) Living room/kitchen open plan good setup all modern appliances in kitchen all work as they should. Don’t expect to be able to put a lot in fridge only essentials. Comfy sofa in room and a single chair also tv with freeview reception goes quite a bit but your not there to sit and watch tv. Bedroom 1 3 quarter bed very comfortable little wardrobe and plenty drawer space. Bedroom 2 two single beds again comfy and enough storage. Shower room. Shower wouldn’t drain properly and had a leak. Toilet and basin as expected. Overall 6/10 was ok probably wouldn’t stop again as location too far from anywhere but that was my fault when booking not Sykes. Looking forward to our next holiday in Newquay with Sykes though.

It's a delightful cottage, a real home from home.

Glorious extensive views towards st Austell. Very comfortable, and slept well. The double room has a king size bed, which felt luxurious. Good bedside reading lights a thoughtful touch. Plenty of hot water. Very quiet. And amazing wildlife including bats and three hedgehogs who explore the patio at night, and can be heard snuffling in the undergrowth. Overall Goose cottage was not just somewhere to stay, it made the holiday. Very helpful staff at John Bray Holidays felt like personal service. I would offer two small suggestions: at this price point i would have expected top quality lined curtains in the living room which would have made the room feel cosier at night and brought together the colour scheme. The flimsy net curtains felt like an after thought. Better scatter cushions would have provided a colour focus. Also two floating shelves in the bathroom, one above the hand basin, and one above the bath would have been useful for holding bathroom products. The wooden 'over bath' contraption was a problem as it kept falling in the bath, while the lack of over storage over the hand basin meant things kept falling in. Overall rating excellent. We all agreed we'd like to live there!
