What our customers say about their holidays

    • Dan - Verified booking

This property is an amazing first class find, the property is in really good condition and has everything you need for your stay.

It was kept very warm during our Christmas stay, and had such lovely and unexpected touches with a Christmas tree and welcome gift. It is in a good location for exploring both the yorkshire dales and north pennies, with lots to do even during the winter. There are a few hikes and view points walkable from the door step also. The hosts were always reachable, friendly and helpful. The drive to the property is about 1 mile from the main road and well maintained. There are a few other cottages that are part of the same complex but its well laid out so you don't feel your privacy is affected. The bridge across to Cotherstone is easy to find from the caravan park and has two pubs. All the wood and fire materials we needed were provided. We did experience issues with the wifi due to the remote location, and mobile phone signal was also very limited inside the property, so I would not recommend planning to work from the property or expect BBC Iplayer/Netflix etc to work. I would note that whilst the freezer space was ample, the fridge space was only a couple of shelfs, which would be more than enough if you are picking up food every couple of days, but due to Christmas we stocked up and were struggling a little for space. We also found the log fueled hot tub very hard to get to the right temperature, we often found we made it too hot or only just warm, however, we were in external temperatures of 1 degrees so it is unlikely to be an issue in the warmer months. Worth considering it may take up to 4hrs to warm in cold temperatures. The only possible improvement we noted is there weren't any arrival/depature instructions, and felt a little more about how to do things in the property and nearby recommendations could have been provided in the welcome letter. More towels could also have been made available at the property as think they would be needed if more than two of you.

      Honest feedback?

Needs some TLC. It's a nice little cottage but general maintenance and dated features let it down. The owner couldn't have been nicer. Fired up the hot tub for us Friday and Saturday night. Was accommodating when asked if we could have a slightly later check out (no one due in after us). Choccies and a bottle of fizz on arrival was lovely touch too. However, there are a lot of things which MUST improve here for me to recommend. These are as follows: Bathroom door which doesn't shut nevermind lock, very dated and tired kitchen needs updated (without a carpet on the floor please - no right in a kitchen especially when pets are allowed). TV in the living room is very old and too small for the size of the room. If you intend to stay in, that needs to be far better. Under floor heating just seemed to stop working in one of the en-suites half way through stay. One of the mirror light bulbs was out. Things like that are annoying and should always be checked between rentals. It's small but screams a lack of attention to detail. Also, if you're there for a short stay, you don't want to have to run back and forth to the owner about things like that. The hot tub has a leak which after a while means the water level drops below the top jets rendering bubbles a no-go. Little feature shelves have been created in the bedrooms but clearly haven't been finished. Bare screws, no lighting, no ornaments or plants in them. It just looks like an idea got started and then left... It devalues the overall experience. To the owners: You have a lovely little place here but it's just a bit unloved and half-baked. With some attention it will be great

Exceptionally clean and tidy accommodation in nice setting.

Very well organised, immaculate grounds. Felt very safe in terms of potential transmission of Covid 19. Parking good. Owner on site and available, very friendly - but not intrusive. Everything looked newly decorated and all furnishings including those in the kitchen were pristine. There were a few things which would improve the experience - but none would prevent us from staying again. These include: Lounge much smaller than looks on pictures with TV set way too high in wall to be watched comfortably - usually not an issue for us, but with poor weather it presented a slight problem. Only one tea towel and one towel per person which may have been deliberate due to current infection risks - and may have been indicated in blurb about property, but if it was I missed it. No washing machine/drying facilities other than heated towel rail. No dishwasher - which was not a problem and certainly not a deal breaker, but surprising given amount of space available in the kitchen. Fridge and freezer way too small for 6 people (total number of potential guests). If some of these suggestions could be taken on board , we would give the facilities a 5 star rating.

We were greeted on arrival, after a long 8 hour drive, by a lovely couple who opened the cottage and gave us a pint of milk.

They are there if you need them but otherwise you are left alone. Bags are provided for the kitchen rubbish and collected daily if put outside. There were tea bags, coffee and delicious, quality biscuits to welcome us. The cottage was roomy, warm and comfortable for a cold November. The area is very quiet, horse in a field in one direction and cows and sheep in others. A very rural area with just a country road passing by. The village of Sherburn with Coop, post office and wonderful bakers is nearby and a sizeable village shop in Ludworth, even nearer in the other direction. There was just two of us but the cottage sleeps six and we could choose our bed! A double and a twin are upstairs with lovely views over the countryside. The double has an ensuite with sink and toilet. The bathroom down stairs is a good size. The whole place is tastefully decorated and very modern, it is spotlessly clean. Plenty of good towels match the bathroom decor. We were very contented there. The couple came out of their cottage in the same grounds to say goodbye when we left at 7am after our 12 night stay.

The cottage was as described, very welcoming and comfortable, very clean and tidy .

The kitchen has every thing we needed and more besides. The bedrooms were very comfortable and large enough for our needs. The bathroom was very good and clean. The only catch indie the cottage was that none of the bedroom doors could be closed as all the door handles and locks were either damaged or falling apart. The bathroom door was the only door that fastened properly but the did have a 2 inch gap at the bottom of the door, also the water pump in this room was extremely load and seemed to rattle throughout the house. The only other 2 things was the steep steps outside could do with a hand rail as they are very sloppy when wet or frozen. And the parking was bad as the neighbour had parked his van,car and motorbike outside so I had to park further down the road. I would still recommended the cottage as these things can be fixed , as for the location it was perfect , peaceful with very stunning views and central to all locations. We loved it and would go here again.
