What our customers say about their holidays

    • Lorraine - Verified booking

      The cottage was fabulous.

The owner, Elaine , was very friendly and accommodating and left bread, cheese, and milk for us which was lovely as we didn't arrive until after 8.30pm. I cannot fault this cottage, it is Sykes that I have a problem with. We booked 3 holidays in one go from you this year totaling around one thousand five hundred pounds. Each time we got back from our holidays I was emailed to say 'book another holiday and we will give you forty pounds off'. I asked if it could be applied to our booked holidays and got told no, as we had paid the deposits it was not a new holiday. Come on Sykes...... you could not apply the two amounts of forty pounds off each holiday?? This is why I am saying that you failed to meet expectations....you offer anyone money off their next holiday but cannot/will not give it to someone who has booked 3 times with you this year. All the cottages we stayed at were fabulous, the owners were all very friendly and I would highly recommend them.....but Sykes as a company - NO!!

We arrived by Trikes, to explore the area, as such luggage space was limited.

To arrive and find a bottle of milk in the fridge and tea/coffee making basics already there was an absolute boon, as there was no urgency to unpack and run back out for supplies; the welcome muffins were a lovely extra. One of the reasons we selected the property was the off-road parking for our two precious vehicles; something we could not find in town. However the walk to the nearest pub, and into town was easy, although an uphill return. The cottage is absolutely delightful, and has everything a couple could need. It’s a very peaceful and beautiful location, and we both slept very well indeed. One thing of note was how lovely the bedding and towels felt and smelled, to the extent I texted the key holder to ask what they used. My husband also made note of the towel brand, and I am sure will be tracking some down in the near future. All in all, a wonderful place to stay, and one we will return to in future to explore this glorious location further.

Stable cottage is gorgeous and full of character.

It was very clean and comfortable with everything you need in the kitchen to prepare food. The locals are very welcoming, and I can imagine the perfect place to live. Trish was in contact throughout my stay as she lives close by. The garden was secure so our dog couldn't get out, the hot tub was spotlessly clean. I had a couple slight niggles, the hot tub wasn't up to the correct temp so couldn't be used the 1st night (the owner wavered the early exit from the tub on the last night to compensate) If you are in the hot tub and someone uses the shower and they don't pull the blind down you can see everything! The TV kept buffering alot which made it impossible to watch anything. These things would not stop me returning or recommending to friends and family. Thank you for a perfect stay Melissa

We throughly enjoyed our cosy Autumn break in this charming, comfortable cottage.

The location is idyllic with open countryside all around and total peace and quiet. The beautiful historic town of Barnard Castle is a short drive away or you can walk along the pretty country lanes straight into the centre in around 40/45 minutes. It was a pleasure to meet the owner of the cottage, Trish, who couldn’t have been more friendly and welcoming, as were all the other locals we met during our visit. The hot tub was great after a day exploring as was the log burner which added to the authentic ambience of the cottage. We honestly couldn’t fault one single thing and best of all our little Cocker Spaniel had the time of her life! We will look forward to returning sometime soon and thanks again to Trish and her family for their hospitality and genuine care!

Had a wonderful Xmas spent at Stable Cottage .

Cosy, comfortable and clean and has everything you need . Hosts Mark & Trish were kind enough to put up a Xmas tree and few decorations to make the place Christmassy. Village is small and everyone friendly, and the Pinfold Club is literally 10 steps away from the Cottage front door.. perfect . Weather all week was diabolical , wind and rain but didn't stop us venturing out , make sure you pack wellies , and waterproofs . Highly recommend a drive out to High force waterfall for a mornings walk . Beautiful place ..and Barnard Castle has all you need as far as shops , pubs take aways are concerned . Will certainly return again in the future. Thank you Trish & Mark for your hospitality. Happy New Year
