    Fishguard Holiday Cottages

Fishguard is a small coastal town in Pembrokeshire, Wales, with a community of less than 3,500 people. Its compact size makes it easy to navigate its two parts: Lower Fishguard cups a small river flowing into the harbour and Main Town is set up the hill.

Fishguard is perfect for a walk in the ancient surrounding woodland, followed by a drink of local ale by an open fire in the pub. On warmer days, it's perfect for a swim in the sea. Heading up to the old fort (about a mile walk from the centre), observe the boats arriving into port. The canons were essential defences preventing the last invasion of Britain by the French in 1797. The local women dressed in tall black hats and red cloaks for the occasion, to scare away the French who thought they were witches!

With thousands of properties located throughout the UK, all backed by our best price guarantee, we're sure you'll find the perfect place to stay. Fishguard boasts traditional fishing cottages and stately homes, perfect for just the two of you, or the whole family. Need help deciding? Our friendly customer service team are just a call away.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ian John - Verified booking

This is the first of many Sykes properties I have stayed in that I have had to complain about.

First impressions were very poor. The front garden was overgrown with hedges and grass very long and poorly looked after. Window sills and front door were very dirty and unwelcoming. First impressions inside were acceptable. After the first day we found that the radiator in one of the double bedrooms was not heating up as efficiently as the others. This made it very cold in the night an we had to change bedrooms. In the twin bedroom the central heating boiler was in the wardrobe which I wasn't very happy with at all. It also kept me awake at night switching off and on as I slept in this room. The lounge was dominated by a huge and very heavy "coffee table" containing thousands of sea shells. This had to be moved away ,with great difficulty, as it was not convenient and was a problem where it was. As the French doors did not open I had to drag this thing down in front of them out of the way. The standard of the furniture in the lounge was very shabby and poorly placed which meant we had to reposition the two settees and lounge chair to acceptable positions. Taking a walk out into the back garden through the back door , as the French door were not accessible, once again we were met by poor mainainance. The hedges were untrimmed, the grass was very long, there were weeds growing up through the cracks in the patio and some of the patio slabs were raised and unstable. The garden furniture was also very unwelcoming. Needless to say we did not spend any time out there all week. Finally I had read from previous people on your site that the shower cubicle was leaking out onto the floor but the problem had been rectified. Really it had not. The problem was not the cubicle. The shower cubicle drain was almost entirely blocked. This was obviously backing up the water in the bottom which the overflowed out under the door. This meant having a shower I'm short bursts of a minute or so to allow the water to drain away. The cleanliness of the shower had also been neglected. Overall we were not impressed with the property at all. We had friends visiting one day who were also staying in a SYKES rental and they could not believe it. I really think that you should check this property as is definitely not up to your standard. Needless to say we will book with Sykes again but definitely not at THE BUNGALOW...........I'm very sorry.

As stated in the previous two reviews, this property was not clean.

The toilet had long black hair stuck to it and weeks of grime on the seat; the bath and floor also hadn't been cleaned. The carpets throughout had not been vacuumed and the two red chairs and settee were covered in long, cream coloured dog hairs. The beams in the large bedroom had several webbs and cellar spiders in most corners. A previous review stated the bins were overflowing upon arrival, this seems to have been rectified by not providing a bin! There was a small, dirty food waste bin on the window sill in the kitchen, but nothing provided for general waste. I called Sykes Cottages who arranged for the cleaner to return. Upon arrival the cleaner apologised and stated her partner cleaned downstairs, while she was responsible for changing the linen upstairs (clean bedding and towels were provided). The cleaner spent around 5 minutes in the bathroom then came out and asked me to inspect it; she then offered to vacuum the settee and chairs, which she did. I thanked her and told her she could go as she said she had a BBQ to attend that evening. After she left, I cleaned the bathroom and vaccumed properly, whilst my husband cleaned the kitchen sides and cupboards. It is a shame that the property is dirty because you can see that the owner has spent a lot of money on the decor and furnishings. The property is pretty and is in an ideal location for the harbour, pubs and shops. There is a steep hill to climb into the main town, which was not a problem for us as we do a lot of dog walking. When we booked the cottage at the beginning of the year, the reviews were good and it's only recent ones which are not.

This is a super little cottage, ideal for anyone wanting a quiet spot but with easy access to Fishguard and north Pembrokeshire coast.

It is also perfect for dog owners with a secure back garden, hard floors throughout the ground floor and access from the door onto bridleways and footpaths for walking. We found it nicely decorated and furnished, really well equipped and everything supplied of a nice quality. We particularly appreciated that rather than take out the book and DVD selection a “quarantine” crate was provided for the former and antiseptic wipes for the latter, meaning it retained its home from home feel. The owner next door is very friendly, approachable and helpful but not at all intrusive. There are a couple of features of the property that you should be clear about before booking. Firstly, access is via a rough and rather bumpy track for the last 200 metres - nothing an average car can't manage going slowly but don't take your low suspension car. The trade off for this is the amazingly quiet location despite being close to the bypass. Secondly there might be one or two difficulties for those with restricted mobility. There are 4 main rooms in the property and moving from any one to another, or indeed accessing the garden, is always via a few steps. We found our 11 year old rather arthritic retriever had to be coaxed up the steps from kitchen to lounge. Similarly much of the excellent array of cooking equipment in the kitchen is accessed from a corner cupboard requiring bending and stretching in a relatively confined space. This would in no way put us off booking again. We loved it!

We have stayed at this property twice before and decided to give it the benefit of doubt and try it again.

Unfortunately in the two and a half years since last staying there the property hasn't been touched at all. The settee's are so uncomfortable. Microwave was dirty hard cheese left in it, and the utensils were also dirty. Kitchen door didn't fit, there was a dehumidifier on when we got there which told us the property must still be damp and this was the problem we had previously, Kitchen hob was a nightmare to use. it kept turning itself off, It only has 2 small and 1 medium saucepans so very hard to cook a Sunday dinner, The microwave is on top of the tall fridge/freezer which is no good if you are short like me. I had to stand on a chair to use it properly. There was dog mess left out in the grass. The dirty caravan is still at the side of the property and it makes the bungalow look very shoddy and dated. There is no file available to tell guests how the bungalow works, i.e how to switch on the heating, a fools guide step by step on how to work the oven and hob as the instructions we found in the drawer were not very explanatory. The area in which the bungalow is situated is lovely and quiet but I could not go back to the bungalow as the owners seem to only want the money and not prepared to update the property. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this property for staying in One positive is that the welcome back was a nice gesture.

The cottage has a lot of potential.

Lovely location, garden was secure for dogs, kitchen was well equipped & it felt very private, lots of lovely features such as the log burner & wooden floors, staircase was very sweet & the attic room was very specious. Unfortunately, it was very run down. The double bed was incredibly uncomfortable, when we stripped the bed at the end of our stay we could see it was an old mattress with just a mattress topper in an obvious attempt to make it more comfortable. The duvet was yellow & dirty. Thankfully, the white bedding was fresh & clean. The sofa cushions were non existent, no springs or padding left in the tiny sofa & the tub chairs incredibly uncomfortable. The shower was the biggest let down with a lot of mould in the grout & excessive mould on the bathroom ceiling. Cobwebs & dust everywhere. Bedroom lighting was awful, very very dull & dark & the furniture was old & marked very badly. We don’t watch much tv on holiday but if we hadn’t been able to get out we’d have struggled as not even a fire stick & minimal channels. The cottage was very very basic & over all a let down. We still enjoyed our weekend but feel that honest reviews would be much more helpful.
