What our customers say about their holidays

    • Lorraine - Verified booking

Dermot Cottage was beautiful, furnished to a high standard yet very homely, everything you needed to self cater, good eating at the local pubs well within walking distance.

The Cottage had everything thought of.... things for very young minds, DVD's for the family, books to while away the time, warm and cosy with the fire if you wanted, spacious for five people, and the garden was a haven for the wildlife , could sit and watch all day from within the sun room. The quality of the furniture and bedding was luxurious, beds and quilts were out of this world, so easy to get that good nights sleep. As for the shower, well, all I can say is raining heaven, you will struggle to get the time in the bathroom as you just don't want to get out!! Nothing had been too much trouble, everything thought of, Wi-Fi how to access, a fantastic instruction book of everything regarding the cottage even down to what buttons for the remote control for the TV to step by step to lighting the wood stove, nothing missed..... So accommodation top rate, as for the area, stunning! so many places to visit, the beaches are fantastic so get those picnics prepared.... We were a family of mixed age range 50's to 13 and all would go back again, we had the perfect holiday, Thank you Dermot Cottage.

This was our second visit to Dermot Cottage which we like very much and find very comfortable and homely.

The large bed is extremely comfortable (don’t know about the singles as we haven’t tried them but the two smaller bedrooms look cosy for children) and the shower is excellent. Everything is supplied in the kitchen including a big fridge freezer; very useful for a self catering holiday. The back garden is well kept and a sun trap. Our dog did escape on both visits and we had to use a couple of garden chairs to block the holes in the hedge. He is a bit of an escape artist but one side of the garden could do with mesh to stop dogs getting out; the other side is walled and there is mesh along the bottom. Outside of the back door and under the lounge window where the garden furniture sits could do with a power wash to get rid of the moss, etc., which becomes slippy when it rains. The dog treats, and Prosecco for us were a lovely surprise and much appreciated. As well as there being amazing walks from the doorstep Dermot Cottage is well placed for exploring the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and look forward to returning.

The house was so much bigger than we thought it would be and on entering it had a home from home feeling.

It was so easy to live in, easy to keep clean with the tiled floors and very nicely carpeted stairs and bedrooms. The bedrooms were very nice, especially the master bedroom. There was a bit of a problem with the fancy basin tap in the bathroom which was difficult to regulate and either trickled or spurted over the top of the basin. As we did not have the best weather it was good to have the wood burner but there was only enough wood for the first evening and we were unable to get more logs locally. It meant we needed to use the central heating which we would have preferred not to do. Perhaps from the owners point of view it might be more economical to leave a plentiful supply of wood. We enjoyed our stay very much and would certainly revisit.

Cleaning and maintenance could be improved.

Wi-fi password needs updating in book and on website Downstairs curtain falls off (it actually fell down onto my niece, she got 2 black eyes and a bruised nose) There were chipped cups and a cracked glass in the cupboard. Could do with a few more mugs. Bathroom tile is cracked and one of the silicone strips has a loose loop (my Mum caught her foot in this, she feel backwards and slashed 2 of her toes and bruised her ankle) No fire starter pack (only a bundle of magazines/papers, 1 log and 1 firelighter) I don't consider this as a starter pack! No washing line, we bought one There's a loop on the back door seal, another potential trip hazzard Porch setee - certainly past it's best, not suitable to sit on

We have stayed here before, we like the house and it's location, being convenient for the shops, eateries, and the many walks in the area. The house could do with a bit of updating, but it's comfortable and clean. The only issue we had was access to the back garden. There are no steps or proper path to the main garden, only an earth bank with an uneven grass walkway which I struggled with. The access was also a bit overgrown so we had to push back brambles etc to get through. For anyone who is fit and sure footed it's ok, but I am not so good on my feet because of arthritis in my knees and hips. I felt the need to highlight this are because I'm probably not the only one who will find this an issue.
