What our customers say about their holidays

    • Tracy - Verified booking

Swanage was lovely but unfortunately Poppy cottage did not meet our needs at all.

I stayed in the double bed which was extremely comfortable, however my mother stayed in the twin bedroom & had to remove the duvet from one bed so she could lie on it as the mattress was so uncomfortable, the springs were jutting out so much, they are obviously old and need replacing. I am almost certain that the description did not state a downstairs bathroom (though looks to have been updated since) & there was absolutely no indication of the fridge being in a cupboard under the stairs, I definitely would not have booked. The configuration is all wrong & the term "swing a cat" comes to mind. I actually think we ought to be reimberesd the service charge as I actually removed cobwebs from the windows, wiped down the limited work surface & washed cutlery/crockery before use. It is fortunate that neither of us needed the cooker as there was a 'fat' filled baking tray inside the oven. Also, as the front door doesn't appear to be used often, dirt/dust is building up, & the furniture needs moving regularly to dust underneath. I will not be recommending dream cottages if this is the standard that you find acceptable.

      Very very disappointed .

. After being a Sykes customer for many many years over 20 this will be the last time I will be !!!!! Poppy cottage let us down badly Tuesday evening 8pm we were left in the dark for 4 hours using just the torch on our phones .. Wednesday morning No Hot Water unable to get a shower and stuck in until 1pm missing our booked day trip …Thursday morning awoke to find the electric had gone off AGAIN We then decided to make our way home a day early We have made contact with Sykes everyday since to request some form of compensation for our spoiled holiday Totally dissatisfied with the service and the response of a measly £50.00 offered and told by Sykes that they are just the agents and no refund can be offered by them just the property owner whom we are not allowed.the details of to speak directly to ?????.. What a disgrace I feel totally let down £750 paid for a holiday that was stressful and cut short We are two ladies that have never needed to complain before and are only asking to be treated fairly £50.00 is an insult

We often stay in historic cottages and feedback did say it was small so we weren't expecting a palace but it is REALLY TINY in the kitchen and bathroom.

Impossible to shower without flooding bathroom (combination of tiny cubicle, shower curtain and holder/head that won't turn away from the curtain!) Well provided with anything you'd need in kitchen but again so small couldn't really do more than breakfast in there. Bed was really comfy but only a double due to size of space (not issue for many but my 6ft3 partner found it a bit tight!) Only window that opens downstairs is tiny bathroom window so very warm once the sun came out. The image of front door/garden is lovely but can't really use it - there is chair in front of the door and if you do manage to get it open the garden isn't fenced or private in anyway but shared with several other cottages so hopeless if you have a dog (there is a paved back garden but not as pretty!) Not the owners fault, but strong smell of marijuana throughout the downstairs - assuming from neighbours....

The website said that cottage owners are not expected to provide any self catering supplies, but might. So I took everything. To my amazement we not only had a welcome pack, but just about everything you might need! A lovely cosy house, thoughfully equpped and coordinated, it looks as though the owners have really enjoyed pulling it all together, thought through what a large party mught need and even sourced a period piece of furniture for each room. My family loved the spaces and the pool table (child's cue provided). We loved the views and the owls. We watched the sun rise from our bedroom and sat outside on the decking for coffee in November - the garden has bbq and seating for the summer. We had local friends visit and they were all blown away by the house. One is even considering it for their family holiday next year.

Homelands really is that little piece of paradise , somewhere to totally relax and recharge! Such a beautiful place, being fully equipped with everything needed for a perfect holiday stay. Plenty of space for a large family holiday together, whilst also allowing for that space to do your own thing too. Lots of gorgeous rooms , tastefully decorated in coastal colours with the pool room, endless games and bbq ensuring time together, making precious memories. Stunning scenery over the hills ,from the master bedroom whilst only a short walk to sandy beaches and scenic cliff views. Harry's rock and the Obelisk were about a mile away, with Dudle Door and Lulworth Cove only a short drive. So much to do in the area and so many places to visit, we will definitely be back!
