We arrived to ocean view and yes the views are incredible.
However we were a little disappointed by the cleanliness of the property for the money we had paid. Firstly, all carpets need a deep clean. We have a baby and allowing her to crawl about wasn't hygienic in the bedrooms. The lock on the bathroom door doesnât work. The tap in the kitchen leaks. The patio hadn't been cleaned or swept in years and we had to clean broken glass and cigarette ends up before we could use it. After we stripped the beds on Friday, our leaving day we were shocked to see the state of the beds. Staining was evident everywhere. I have taken a picture of one bed as it had a used incontinence pad under the sheet and my mother had been sleeping on it all week unaware. The fact that this was still on the bed from a previous guest means that the sheets clearly were not changed once they had left, or the cleaner had made a conscious decision to leave a used incontinence pad on the bed. There was years worth of dust and cobwebs behind the head boards in all bedrooms which became apartment when trying to retrieve a babyâs toy. The seat cushions around the table need a good clean as they are all dirty. Mould was prevalent in the grout and non-slip mats in the en-suite and main bathroom. In general the entire house could do with a proper deep clean or the owners should seriously consider lowering the price of staying here. We have stayed in hopecove many times before (Every year for the last 16 years) and thus have stayed in many rental properties and can safely say that despite being one of the most expensive properties to rent in Hope Cove it certainly does not provide value for money in its current state. We have always had an information book in every property we have stayed in, however we didnât have one specific to this property this time so therefore had no idea what to do with rubbish and how to separate the recycling etc. The patio furniture is dated and broken with the cushions to practically all the furniture dirty and covered in dog hair. A dangerously rusty parasol base was provided but no parasol? We were very lucky with the weather so spent most days outside of the property and overall we did have a nice time. Its definitely one of the best properties in hope cove for parking, location and views, the whole house just needs a really deep clean and a little updating. Either that or the owners really should consider reducing the price to bring the expectations of visitors in-line with the reality of the property.

Do not stay here!
!! (Have they all gone?) good. Because this is by far one of the loveliest cottages I have stayed in. The beds are the comfiest I have slept in, the cottage was clean and welcoming. Obviously the hi-light was watching the waves crash, the surfers surf and the sea in all its stages from the comfort of an arm chair, or with a glass of wine on the patio. This cottage is a family home, with all the comforts that allows; including gadgets, kitchenware and artwork. This just makes it more welcoming. To cover some other points: The cooker is tricky, but because itâs aimed to keep you safe, not faulty. Just keep your finger on the standby button to activate. The Hope and Anchor in the village is lovely, food, drinks, view and service. The staff are lovely. The Cove has a lady who is front of house, she is more aggressive than is necessary in a small restaurant. But the food lovely so duck and cover and enjoy! The Hotel is charming and the cocktails are very nice. Be warned the village shop is basic and expensive, which is a shame as it could be a goldmine, the staff again are lovely. So if you did read past the first line and have uncovered the secret that is Ocean View, I am sure you will have a wonderful time. We certainly did.

I did not raise these issues whilst at the property because I refuse to waste precious holiday time.
Whilst I appreciate that sykes have no control over the cleaning of these properties someone seriously needs to check on the people who clean them because on arrival we looked at the info booklet for rules and regs and it states leaving the place as we found it which would not please the next customer, because we found stale bread in the bread bin, the toast rack was dirty, and there were hairs on one of the double beds, also, the description is not exactly correct because it doesn't state that the garden is shared, this is vital because if one family has dogs and the neighbour doesn't it could cause a problem, the location and views are unquestionably spectacular and it's a shame certain things spoilt the experience, finally two points to consider. 1. At a property costing £2500 For 1 week you should not have to make a phone call to raise heating temperature, that is disgusting. 2. For the same reason (cost) you would expect a small welcome pack, I.e. milk, sugar, bread , because invariably when people arrive at the property with today's traffic problems they will get there late, therefore not be able to purchase, even if the rule is that you replace them on leaving the property, just a suggestion, many thanks, Tony.

We had the most wonderful stay!
The property is great with well-equipped kitchen and oven (perhaps the best oven weâve used in a holiday rental!). Beds were comfy and lots of room to lounge around. Outside space was well-established and beautifully peaceful, a proper paradise. My only regret was that the figs werenât ripe when we were there! We certainly felt in the holiday spirit whilst at the property. The stream at the bottom of the field is an absolute treat, highly encouraged to visit with a picnic and spend the day there, our dog loved it, as did we. Itâs certainly worth taking a cooling dip! We had a family emergency whilst at the property at the owners could not have been more supportive. So very kind and always there when we needed them. This is certainly a place I would return. Location is rural and has a few great places to visit within the local area; Garden Centre, Shop and Cafe Weaver Green with AMAZING sustainable rugs and blankets etc. and a gorgeous outside space to sit and have coffee and cake, and distance to a good supermarket is not far at all. I would definitely return to this property, I felt very happy here

We just spent a week at Crannacombe farmhouse and we think the last reviewer was really harsh.
It's a quaint old farmhouse. It hasn't been thoroughly modernised like many devon cottages but they cost a lot more. We found it comfortable and it had all the amenities required including those described on the listing. The upstairs showers weren't great because of the water pressure but the downstairs shower was really good. The "5th bedroom" is formed by a two rooms being separated by a curtain. Fine for us as we put the kids in there and treated it as what a hotel would call a "family room". A car is essential as it really is in the middle of nowehere. That makes it very peaceful with great views and lovely walks but a 30 minute drive to a beach or even a decent supermarket and the drive starts with 3/4 of a mile up the lane. We found the place easily because we called Shirley in advance (as requested) and she explained how to get there. We took a picture from the web site with us just in case. Finding the lane is easy as there is a HUGE picture of a chile at the entrance . It isn't an ultra-modern cottage but we found it a cute and comfortable holiday !
