What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr John Lovelace - Verified booking

This apartment is in a beautiful location overlooking Burgh Island to the South and out to sea to the west.

We easily made contact with the housekeeper regarding arrival time and secure parking and key access to the property was very simple and straight forward. No 19 parking space and access stairs are at the far end of the car park and the front door to the property is on a lower level than the car park, down the flight of stairs. The property is in a good position, whatever the weather, to watch the tide wash in across the causeway from both sides of Burgh island as the tide goes in and out. The property has a generous size balcony with table and chairs to sit out on the warmer days. We weren’t lucky with the weather being November but the apartment is very spacious, it’s warm, comfortable, clean and well equipped, so we didn’t feel the need to go out every day. Our planned food supply and the well stocked shop down the road, meant we only ate out one lunch time, plus a cream tea at Bigbury Golf Club!!!!! We can recommend the Journeys End pub at Ringmoor for a nice lunch which we had after a walk down to Ayrmer Cove. There’s a National Trust car park (Free to Members) at the start of the walk and a steep but firm footpath down to the Cove, well worth the walk. Another nice walk is on the coastal path to Challaborough, starts from the end of the car park, a few metres from No19 parking space. More good views on this walk. There’s a small gym, swimming pool and restaurant on site and a friendly social community. We asked about opening times and were kept up to date through the week of what the daily opening times were. We were offered eat-in or take away meals from the on-site restaurant if we ordered in advance. One day we walked over to Burgh Island, it started raining and whilst we were sheltering under the porch of the Pilchard the barman opened up early for us and another couple and invited us in for a coffee. By the time the rain stopped and we walked round the island the tide was in so we took the £2 water taxi back, only takes a few minutes but a bit of novelty fun. This is a lovely well maintained apartment on a good small complex. Oh, and we enjoyed the tea, milk, wine and cake in the welcome pack!!!! thanks.”

Such a beautiful property, with panoramic sea views.

it’s a real shame we were looking out over a messy pool area. Cover not on properly & blowing about all week in the windy weather. Hose pipes, and cleaning equipment left out. Otherwise a fabulous stay, no control over the weather! But thankfully an extremely comfortable property, very clean & well equipped. It felt very welcoming and homely, with tasteful decoration throughout. On the downside…. The apartment was reached via a small country lane, which was a challenging route, dealing with oncoming cars. There are some passing places, but reversing, pulling over, and passing tested driving skills. There maybe another route, although once there, we did not venture out via roads again, until going home. The electrics lights in the apartment, at times had a mind of there own, flashing on and off, perhaps due to dimmers using the wrong type of energy efficient bulbs maybe? There is a delightful little cafe near the beach, but otherwise no pubs, restaurants, or shops nearby, so make sure you have the supplies needed. Around a 20 minute walk into Hope Cove ( mostly flat SW coastal path) which was perfect for lunch, but dinner would mean walking back in the dark at this time of year. (November) We seemed to be the only guests staying as very late in the season, so the owners of other apartments were taking the opportunity to improve their properties, with men workmen, kitchen fitters, and gardeners as some work being done to maintain the hedges etc. in the height of the season, anyone around the pool area would be able to see into this apartment, I’m not sure how comfortable I would have been with that. On the whole we had a wonderful stay, a much needed break away.

      6 Oceans Edge, South Milton.

This is a second floor apartment. One of eleven apartments in the block. Family stay, four adults one child - 5th August 2023 for two weeks, The pictures look enticing. Sadly, the apartment is badly let down by the lack of basic cleaning and hygiene practices. Washing Machine - Mouldy Tumble Dryer - Fire Hazzard Bedding, mattress protectors heavily soiled and smelly. Pillows, heavily soiled and smelly. Had to go out and buy new pillows etc. So very dirty and grubby. Oven dirty / greasy. Cooker hood covered in dust on top of a build up of grease. Fridge and freezer dirty hair in freezer drawers. Dishwasher dirty Electrical PAT testing six months out of date. Extractor fans not working, this was noted by previous guests over twelve months ago. Food remnants under sofa. Finger nail clippings in window sill. Rodent droppings under sofa, Rodent droppings by bed. Vacuum in wardrobe on arrival full of detritus. Sofa very tired, worn, smelly and uncomfortable. Balcony chair broken. Evidence of dog hair in apartment even though booked as pet free. This was also noted previously in guest feedback. Dog food / biscuits / treats in utility shed. Pool area - two ground floor apartments let for guests with dogs, these apartments face the pool area. Unfortunately the guests let them roam freely in pool area as gated. Several occasions dogs becoming territorial and using area as toilet. Evident early morning dog activity.

This apartment is beautiful and spacious - amazing views over the beach and Burgh Island.

Spotlessly clean and every item of equipment anyone could need is available. All equipment supplied is of high quality - the wine cooler is a lovely touch. The beds and sofas were really comfortable, and the en suite bathroom/shower rooms are lovely. So many nice added touches to make it feel more like you a trusted guest in someone's home, rather than a holiday let. Everything was exactly as shown in the photo's - very well maintained and tasteful. Absolutely no complaints at all about the apartment or anything in it. We didn't want to leave. The only issue we had was communication with Sykes, because of the wifi and mobile signal. The wifi was very slow, and for a few days was too slow to use. We are all on the same mobile network and so none of us had any signal. This made it difficult and very frustrating to communicate with Sykes. Although they were informed (several times) over WhatsApp and email that we didn't have mobile signal, they took days to reply, and then did so by voicemail, which we couldn't pick up. Issues could have been sorted out if they had replied sooner by the methods we had suggested. Sykes should have a faster response team for their clients who are already on holiday and therefore need assistance in less than 3 days.

2, Garden Apartment is part of a former hotel situated towards the end of a 0.

9km single track road with passing places, which leads off a similar 5km single track road from Stokenham. Both roads are bounded by high hedges and negotiation in the summer, with tourist and local traffic, is challenging, such that excursions by vehicle have to be undertaken with particular care. Indeed, although we went out on most days we did not go out at all in the evenings. If one were to stay in the property without travelling out, there are excellent pool and tennis facilities but walking is confined to the coastal path, so is somewhat restricted. In truth, we would not go there again. The apartment is well maintained, and the aspect is lovely, especially in the good (for tourists!) weather we have been having (September 2022). We had a few niggles: the code we were given for entrance to the grounds was incorrect, lacking the prefix letter, while the description of the location of the entrance code at the property was unclear: it took us 30minutes, with the help of local visitors, to get inside the property when we arrived. The washbasin in the double bed room lacked a serviceable stopper and the dishwasher instructions were incomprehensible. Communication with the agent was very difficult by mobile phone (outside the property).
