What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jack - Verified booking

Had an amazing break away at the chalet 150 at winterton on sea (couple with a dog).

Comfy bed and quiet and peaceful location with spacious lounge area/dining. Loved the patio doors on front and back for dining in the morning sun at breakfast time or having a drink or two on the back in the evening sun. Everything you need is in the chalet. 10 min coastal walk to beach and 10 minute walk to local village. Local village of Winterton really lovely and calm and chilled out but with enough going in if you want something eg shop, chip shop, pub and tea room. Chip shop was so yummy but worth noting it’s cooked fresh to order so you may have a little wait but you can have a nice walk round the church or gardens or walk to the beach and back to build up an appetite. Poppy’s tearoom lovely garden round the back highly recommend for breakfast/brunch or tea and cake, also dog friendly. Fisherman’s arms pub lovely too beer garden and really modern inside nice food and dog friendly. 20 min walk from chalet to local town of Hemsby recommend a trip to the Lacton arms pub nice food and nice beer garden and dog friendly. Hemsby worth a visit for doughnuts and ice creams or pizza from pizza&kebab at the top of town also there’s a nice beach boutique store sells lovely clothes but definitely preferred winterton on sea beach and chalet site as it’s very beautiful, peaceful, idyllic and best of all very relaxing. Also the local residents here at the chalets are super friendly and welcoming. Our dog made lots of dog friends too! He loved it, he was so cosy in the chalet as well. He especially loved the beach and coastal walks and playing in the sun and the long stretch of grass lawn with sea views near the chalets but the beach definitely his favourite just amazing winterton on sea beach as it stretches out for miles and miles and it’s so peaceful. The sand is lovely and soft and warm and the sea has beautiful waves, the dunes are great too, we were lucky enough to see a seal in the sea one of the days too. We enjoyed a 10 min drive from the chalet to a local village called Horsey, had an amazing breakfast at Poppylands tea room world war 2 inspired amazing place really gorgeous and lovely food and cake and cute gift shop. Also we were so thrilled to walk to horsey gap beach and got to see loads of seals swimming in the sea there! Even a little pup on the shore! Well worth a visit, only a short walk from tea rooms. 7 mile drive to Great Yarmouth from the chalet - perfect for families who want a Blackpool style/type holiday or an enjoyable place for people like us who just wanted a nice mooch round the shops and a walk and food near the beach. Great Yarmouth also has a big Tesco if you need supplies, we got some bbq food one night and had it on winterton beach which was awesome! ‘The lion pub’ on the way to Horsey is well worth a visit as well lovely meal and really lovely couple who own it, made a real fuss of our dog, dog biscuits and everything. I cannot recommend this place enough, it’s just perfect! The location is brilliant, you don’t need to use your car at all really unless you want to visit other places, but the chalet is perfect for what you need and the beach and everything is just gorgeous! Worth noting that the chalet isn’t detached but still a quiet location not overlooked from the front but is more communal on the back. I would highly recommend this hidden gem! Thank you for an amazing stay Jill. Kira & Jack & Henry the dog x

We arrived at the cottage, parked on the very small forecourt (I have a Skoda fabia but it still protruded onto the pavement.

After we unloaded the car we made a drink using our own tea and milk as there wasn't any at the property as promised. Sat in the one usable seating area in the garden which was uncomfortable (no cushions) overshadowed by an elder dropping berries so a bit messy to sit on and next to a fuel tank that smelt strongly of fuel/oil Immediately the dogs next door began barking and jumping at the fence which disturbed our dog to the point that he didn't want to be in the garden, this was almost continuous. Later on I used the oven to reheat some meatballs and sauce that I had prepared but couldn't find an oven glove. I couldn't find a cloth to wipe the side either, or a dishwasher tablet but luckily I had brought some with me. Once in bed (which was very comfortable) we could clearly hear the neighbours conversation and shouting through the bedroom walls. At 7 am on the Sunday morning loud banging from the neighbours woke us all up, this went on for about 10 minutes. Over breakfast we unanimously decided that we would all rather be at home than in that cottage. My opinion of the property is that it is not a holiday cottage, there weren't any nice views out of the windows or from the garden, you faced the back door and the boiler from the seating area . It was incredibly basic in furnishings and kitchenware, badly maintained with broken/loose tiles as you stepped out the shower, loose/drooping shower rail upstairs. The garden was neglected and uncared for with overgrown grass and bushes, a green mossy chair and concrete seats (covered in elder berries. We packed the car, locked the door and drove home. I have rented many cottages over the years and this is the first time I have given a bad review. The cottage is more suited for long term rental and is certainly not, in my opinion, condusive to a relaxing holiday. I would strongly recommend street viewing the property before booking it. We booked the cottage for a week and stayed for approximately 18 hours, notified the caretaker that we had left by phone call and spent the remainder of our holiday at home.

      Lovely area.

Very flat so do expect blustery days. Cottage is well fitted out and stocked, but sadly no microwave oven so no quick snacks. We used the log burner only on our first day . We could not see the flames due to build up of soot on the inside of the glass door. We both noticed a faint smell of wood smoke in the kitchen in the evening's during the week we presumed this from adjacent property but this did not detract from our stay but should be looked at. As there's no TV aerial fitted so you need to rely on Wifi to watch any program's but using your own account. Unfortunately you lose the benefits of wifi at around tea time when village usage exceeds wifi capacity. The main point we would reiterate from the write up is the bedroom access stairs. The access upstairs to the bedroom and raised bath are definitely not for the old or infirm. The down stairs bedroom which is built in an insulated wooden extension was cold even with the heating on on frosty nights . There is only enough room to just to walk around the bed so there's is no room for hanging space for clothes. The rear garden needed attention and maintenace but it was early in the season. A visitor book leave helpful comments would have been nice addition. None of the above really detracted from our holiday and not enough to contact the owners durning our break. Hope this is helpful. Regards Ean

We had an enjoyable stay at Wallflower cottage and would recommend it to others.

Its location affords particularly good access to the beach/ coast. However, with a little more attention, the owners could make this an even better offer. For example, we holidayed during the hottest week of the year but on arrival, discovered a winter duvet on the main bed. The bedroom door also rubbed on the carpet and really needs to be planed on the bottom. The potato peeler was also a bit pants but that may have just been my dodgy fingers. General instructions left on the coffee table could be improved to make most of the property and the surrounding areas. (The WiFi was a bit patchy and didn't extend further than the sofa and I had to link the SMART TV into the internet to access YouTube, iPlayer, Amazon, etc.) The property was cleaned to a good standard but certain areas looked a little tired (flaking paint and walls where guests have rubbed against); which will undoubtedly be addressed in the off-season. As mentioned, parking is a little tight at the front of the property but this can't be helped. Overall, a really nice stay that has left us with some pleasant memories. Thank you.

Ideal location for broads and coast.

Sweet characterful cottage. Well equipped kitchen. Modern heaters easy to use. Unfortunately the cottage has a large spider population and the patio was full of weeds so even if the weather had been better we wouldn't have wanted to sit out there (unless we weeded it ourselves!) We didn't find the cottage particularly comfortable, the dining chairs very hard, very small wardrobe in the main bedroom and no wardrobe, bedside table dressing table or drawers in the second double bedroom so nowhere to put anything, four wall hooks were supplied plus one on the door. Although only two of us, we needed to use both the rooms for health reasons (we are in our 70's). To make matters worse the very characterful cottage opposite has a security light flashing many times over night, straight through the very thin curtains so this disturbed our sleep. (Not the fault of the owner of course). Didn't like the absence of curtains or blinds in the kitchen and bathroom. However it is a very good location, lovely walks straight from the cottage.
