This is our second time at Lee Shore having stayed last year for the first time in Salcombe.
I am disappointed that our feedback from last year, and by reading some of the other reviews, the feedback of other guests, hasnât been taken on board. The reason we returned was the size of the property and itâs excellent location; we are a couple so donât need a large property, itâs a 30 second walk to the waterfront to launch our kayak and with the expectation our feedback had been listened to so our stay would be more comfortable than last year. I wholly agree with another review that the extremely steep, precarious and small staircase to access the living area is not mentioned, not an issue for us but could be for others with less mobility, plus there are numerous steps to ascend to even reach the property, THIS SHOULD BE CLEARLY MENTIONED AND PHOTOGRAPHED. We fed back last year that the bed was absolutely awful, very uncomfortable, the mattress is indented on both sides and the sheets on the bed were ill-fitting and well worn and need replacing - EXACTLY THE SAME MATTRESS AND SHEETS THIS YEAR. We even flipped it over to see if this would help but alas no. My partner in despair on night three from lack of sleep, went to spend the night in the single room, alas, he reported that the single bed was much the same if not worse and could feel the springs in his back. The futon sofa is still in place, despite feeding back that it also needs replacing with something much more comfortable as you cannot relax on it and seems pointless. The kitchen equipment could all do with checking through and replacing as needed, as a lot of the items are well used at best and have seen better days, the oven trays and cooking paraphernalia need a good scrub if not binned and replaced with new. We bring our FireStick to plug into the TV so we have access to Netflix etc in the evening as the channel content is very poor, which I would recommend others to do. Overall, Lee Shore is OK if you donât have high expectations and donât sleep much. It is very tired and needs a complete overhaul of contents, a thorough deep clean, repair of cracks and fresh paint throughout. It is a shame as the location and stunning views from the living area make this property a real winner. We have no issues with Coast and Country as a service, however, due to the above, we shall not be returning to Lee Shore and would advise others to read all the reviews carefully to make an informed choice when considering booking this property. The expectation now is that the property owners take notice of the reviews and rectify the issues before the 2024 season begins, if so, we would gladly return.

We are currently on holiday, staying at Lee Shore which will be our 4th/5th stay, but the first time leaving a review.
We love it here, itâs our happy place and oozes relaxing vibes. Itâs the perfect mix of well equipped compact living, thereâs plenty of storage and it doesnât feel cramped (for 2+ a little one). Itâs a quintessential sea side cottage (apartment) with rustic floorboards and lovely sash windows which frame the views perfectly. We stayed elsewhere for our trips when our little boy was crawling / toddling as the stairs are steep and very open but our little boy is 3 now and is sensible enough to avoid them. In our opinion Lee Shore canât be beat for its location - right in the centre of things, lots of atmosphere from the street below and smells wafting up from the bakery opposite. In terms of noise, which has been mentioned in the previous comments - it is next to the fortescue pub and the bakery. We have yet to stay during the school holidays (which I hear are very busy), but during our stays there is chatter from the pub until midnight-ish but this doesnât cause much disturbance. The bakery now has evening deliveries which is much better than the 2am ones previously. The master bedroom window has had its draft / acoustic seals replaced recently and they are very effective in deadening the noise. Many thanks to the owners for another lovely stay, and if they ever wish to sell we would bite their hand off - haha⦠Emma, Peter and Charles x

We mostly enjoyed our 4 night stay in Salcombe but normally stay over in East Portlemouth or further out from the Salcombe centre.
So staying in the centre this time was an eye opener! 8b Fore St is right in the centre of things above the pastie shop and Roly's fudge shop! The front door is between the two shops with a steady climb up the staircase to the second floor. It is dated in decor although there are lovely colourful modern prints on the walls. The kitchen cooker is electric one I haven't seen in years! No washing machine/dishwasher not that that bothered us. The below work top fridge has only a small freezer space. Easy to live with for a few days but because of the position of the flat in the middle of the town it was VERY noisy in the late evening and the early hours with rabbles of youngsters shouting and yelling to one another just below us while waiting for taxis to take them away at 2 in the morning! Our advice keep windows shut and use white noise like a fan or the radio and wax ear plugs if you want to get ANY sleep! Luckily we brought both. The sitting/dining room was comfortable though small (a squeeze for 4) with picture windows & stunnings views at anytime of the day over the estuary and the East Portlemouth hillside. In future we would stay away from what is the busiest part of the town! Otherwise it was lovely to be back in Salcombe.

The view is the very best from this property and overall, facilities were sufficient and the property was comfortable.
However, it was let down by inadequate cleaning and tired décor. For the price, I would have expected a thorough clean and at the very least, annual décor update and refresh. The key collection was dealt with by unfriendly and indifferent staff who manage the property - the owners would no doubt be disappointed at this poor management service, worst of all was a complete lack of information and direction for leaving the keys, the office was closed and it took several attempts to locate the drop box. Only one parking space is inadequate for a property that sleeps potentially 7 - most visitors will need at least two cars and parking for two. We stayed for two nights but there was no welcome pack, we are a group of six ladies who often go away for a weekend, we often then return to an area at another date with our families so it is short sighted of the management company to not bother to give us a welcome pack - some milk would have been welcome at the very least! The outside space was a complete let down, poorly maintained and insufficient chairs, also in need of a good clean. Overall disappointing, not worth the money.

We found the accommodation ideally placed for all the restaurants, pubs & shops, with a bakery directly behind the accommodation in a busy side street, this could be a little noisy from 5am but didnât spoil our stay.
Our biggest gripe was the lack of parking, we noted the permit mentioned, but thought it would be near the accommodation, instead we found it was for a public car park some distance away with NO guarantee of a space! This made getting our weeks bags of clothes etc very difficult, having to make a couple of journeys each time, this will NOT suit anyone with walking or similar health issues or possibly small children, and infact once youâve given up your space for a day out perhaps, you will be very lucky, certainly in high season, to get another on your return unless itâs later in the evening! Yes the permit letâs you park in other areas of the coast, but not in Salcombe, we made a mistake of using it one afternoon in a second car park because the main one was full, this cost me a £50 parking fine, ok my fault for not reading small print, this only allows for free WINTER parking. Unfortunately this was enough to put us off visiting this accommodation again, and I think this situation should be CLEARLY explained by Sykes Cottages in the ad for the accommodation for the benefit off everyone..
