What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ken - Verified booking

First Impressions of the cottage where quite positive, it is an old stone Building which remains cool even on a warm day.

The heating to the property is controlled by a timer which in turn is controlled by the owner, hence at night on our stay in mid September it got fairly cold. There was also a fume smell emitting from the oil boiler in the en-suite double bedroom, especially if the door to the en-suite bathroom left closed. Hence due to there only being two of us we opted to sleep in another of the 3 bedrooms, the lack of heating control at night was a slight downside to our stay though. Privacy was another problem at the cottage as it is part of a multi unit letting set up, with a number of permanent residents also. This meant the need to the keep curtains drawn, or residents can see straight into the holiday let, access to property was via two Drives each very pot holed even for a 4x4 to use. There was also a distinct lack of where to go leaflets for things to see and do in the area, on leaving we left our leaflets there for new guests to use when they arrive. Seating in kitchen looked period but was very uncomfortable and all the chairs rickety, with very loose wooden Joints with some previous attempted screw repairs quite dangerous really. These need repairing properly to safe guard future occupants safety when using the focal point kitchen, as this is a premium property it really needs all the little details re- addressing especially the boiler when the rental season finally quietens down. The property could be brought right back up to scratch, over the course of a couple of days re-investment and time. Overall we enjoyed our time there but it could have been so much better.

My husband and I stayed in West Deyne last week and we enjoyed everything about it.

We live in the countryside so the position of West Deyne, just a walk away from Broughty Ferry's impressive shops and a step away from the sea was a lovely change for us.( It was also amazingly quiet). The house itself is spacious, very clean, beautifully decorated and the owners have obviously given a great deal of thought into providing everything which their guests could possibly need. My sister came to spend a few nights with us and she, like me, was impressed by the quality of the pillows and duvets. We went into neighbouring Dundee on 2 occasions to visit the V&A and the McManus Galleries museum and opted to travel by train and bus to avoid spending time looking for parking. Train station and bus stop are just a few minutes walk from West Deyne. This property has everything to recommend it not least the owners who provided a wonderful welcome pack for us and who made it very simple for me to retrieve something I had left behind. All in all West Deyne was a 5 star experience. Elizabeth Smyth.

We had a lovely break .

We stayed at Wallace cottage instead of Stewart but that was a plus as the views were beautiful . Weather appalling and the roads were a challenge due to the adverse weather but that did not detract from our enjoyment. I feel for the owners as their driveway to their cottages has been badly affected by the rain washing parts away but again care is needed. The cottage itself was very comfortable and clean . The adverse weather conditions concerned us with 3 wet dogs. spoiling the carpets but we had taken their beds so all ok ( little room in car for x3 Hoomans belonging ,,,,). Thank you for a very pleasant stay and hopefully will come back and the weather will be kinder..

We stayed in the Byre, one of I think six accommodations on the premises.

I won't mark on the basis that it doesn't accommodate for disabilities, as we didn't mention it when booking for three persons. The accommodation was excellent, lot's of space throughout, clean and tidy. Everything needed for a self-catering holiday is at hand and Carol will find you anything you need. This was a great weeks holiday, a walk from Newton Stewart, surrounded by beautiful countryside. Lots of nearby tourist landmarks if that's what you want, or piece and quiet in and outside the accommodation area. Perfect place to unwind. Thanks to Carol and her family.

This was our second visit to the highlands, and the stunning landscape persuaded us to stay longer.

We initially thought the water might not be great, but we found that it tasted even better than the water in London. The travel distance didn't bother us, as it provided a sense of tranquillity. The Christmas tree added a lovely touch from our host. The dog-friendly environment ensured everyone, including our furry friend, had a wonderful time. We felt sad to say goodbye, knowing that our holiday was coming to an end. As we looked back at the beautiful night sky, we were comforted by the thought that one day we would return. https://flic.kr/p/2qE5cuy
