    Holiday Cottages in Torquay

For a taste of the continent without having to leave the UK, book one of our Torquay Cottages in the heart of the English Riviera. Lined with palm trees and strings of coloured lights that illuminate the seafront by night, there's possibly nowhere more quintessentially English to take a break. With the stunning Abbey Sands beach virtually on your doorstep and the marina playing host to a variety of boats, yachts and cruisers, you could easily forget that you're in Britain at all. With plenty of attractions in the area, our extensive range of Torquay Cottages are absolutely ideal for families looking to enjoy some downtime together. Who needs the south of France when you have the southwest of England?

There's also plenty of appeal for couples looking for a romantic break. Torquay is packed with some excellent restaurants, ranging from quaint bistros to fine-dining establishments. On top of that you've got the famous promenade, the perfect spot for romantic walks, whatever the weather, whatever the time of year. Booking one of our holiday cottages in Torquay also puts you right at the heart of the action for festivals such as the International Agatha Christie Festival and the English Riviera Festival.

What's good to see and do in Torquay?

If you've booked one of our holiday cottages in Torquay for the whole family, you'll find lots of attractions practically on your doorstep. Kent's Cavern is packed with subterranean surprises and very close to the Babbacombe Model Village, which compacts all the charms of an English Riviera town in miniature. There are some excellent castles worth visiting, such as Compton Castle and Meadfoot, but be sure to set aside some time to visit Berry Pomeroy castle; not only is it a crumbling, atmospheric ruin, but it's also supposed to be the most haunted castle in Britain!

Couples are equally spoilt when it comes to days out. Beautiful beaches aside, you might want to take a trip to the elegant All Saints Church, where Agatha Christie was baptised, or maybe get down to the Royal Terrace Gardens to explore some beautifully sculpted parklands and the lush scenery. For a night out, the nearby Babbacombe Theatre wows audiences with top-notch, professional productions, comedy, and children's shows.

    • Dorothy - Verified booking

This beautiful apartment, with its spaciousness, airiness, views, location etc.

, did not disappoint. In fact, it surpassed our expectations. We loved the contemporary, uncluttered interior and soft soothing colour scheme. The sweeping views of the bay could be seen from every room in the apartment (except the two bathrooms) via the floor to ceiling/wall to wall patio doors in each room. The kitchen was very well equipped, and a few essentials including milk, were provided - oh, and a bottle of wine, ready chilled, which was most welcome! The pair of binoculars were very useful and provided much extra entertainment. We spent many an hour on the spacious, sunny, south/west facing balcony… all meals and drinks were eaten out there, from breakfast as the sun started to come up, through to late evening as we watched the sun go down … all whilst ‘watching and listening to the world go by’ below us… such a changing landscape. Once the patio doors were closed at the end of the day, any noise was cancelled out. The beds (always a concern when staying away from home) were extremely comfortable and ensured a good nights sleep. And what a view to wake up to each morning, as well as the joy of breathing in the fresh sea air! The location was perfect for us, two elderlies, who walked to the marina and town one way, and to Torre Abbey and the railway station in the other direction, all along wide paved areas running alongside the ‘front’. The Victorian era Rock Walk, starting just behind the apartment block, was an easy walk (and descent) and provided even more spectacular views of the bay, as well as the iconic apartment block building. Just a few minutes walk to the bus stop, very regular buses took us to St.Marychurch/Babbacombe and Paignton. One day, we took a train to Totnes and on another, the ferry to Brixham. There was so much more we could have done but our week passed quickly and we basically ran out of time. Our car stayed parked in the secure undercover car park for the whole week as we just didn’t need to use it. The local Tesco Express is a pleasant, easy 15 minute walk away. Early in our stay, we did have an issue. We contacted Sykes on one of the numbers they provided on our holiday paperwork. The person we spoke with was very helpful and said he would get someone out as soon as possible to resolve. In much less than an hour, I had a knock on the door and a lovely gentleman, who I think was/is a caretaker/manager of the holiday lets, introduced himself and managed to put right the issue. Well done and thank you to the Sykes team! Overall, a fantastic week here and I would have no hesitation in recommending to family and friends. Thank you to the owner(s) for letting out your superb property for others to enjoy. I hope that someday I can return.

Hello, this weekend was purchased as a present four our friends who had just got married.

The reason we chose the property was because of the hot tub so we were going to use it as a base and socialise in the evenings relaxing in the tub. On arrival the property was very clean and tidy inside (only two coffee saches for four guests? But i guess thats just a nice little extra anyway) . The following morning we went to use the hot before going out but unfortunately the water smelt slightly stagnant and was only 34 degrees (certainly not hot tub temperature). I found test strips for the tub, there was no indication of chlorine or bromine in the water hence it was not set up properly. This was somewhat disappointing as the attraction of the property was the hot tub hence I felt we paid a higher than average price for the area. I phoned the owner (Gary) and explained once we were able to catch up with eachother. Gary was apologetic and put the error down to the company responsible for maintenance. Not a fault of the property but the following evening the neighbours had a loud domestic incident (not really what we wanted when we were trying to treat our friends to a relaxing weekend). I'm sure on other occasions this would be an ideal location for anyone wanting to stay in Torquay, easy walking distance to key locations, but on this occasion it didn't work out for us. There are understandably lots of rules around the hot tub use with a potential fine of £100 if they are breached. It's a shame there wasn't an offer of a £100 refund as the facility wasn't available. I wouldn't choose to stay at the property again as there are better value locations / hotels that would be suitable for similar, if not less money.

It’s a beautiful house with stunning views.

It’s reasonably well equipped and has plenty of comfortable seating indoors for a large family. The beds are all very comfortable and the house was clean and tidy when we arrived. The welcome pack was the best we’ve ever had in decades of renting holiday lets. What lets the place down is basic maintenance. The steep stone stairs to the lower floor are hazardous and we could not use that floor as planned for our elderly parents. The advert is not clear that use of this floor involves a descent down stone stairs with a piece of loose carpet over the top stair. That floor seems not to have been used for a long time as it smelt musty. The shower tray is extremely slippy and needs a non-slip mat. Because our disabled parents could not use this floor, we had to give them the twin en-suite so that they would at least have their own bathroom. They usually sleep together in a King size bed and so we worried all week that they would fall from the single beds. Upstairs, the main bathroom shower hose is broken and needs replacing. The most disappointing element was the gardens. They have not been maintained at all and there is no comfortable seating - a picnic bench and a rusty metal patio set are not suitable for a large family to relax. There was also no means for outdoor cooking. For those reasons, we did not use the gardens at all. The upstairs roof garden was dirty and full of soil from the gutters. Once again, this could not be used.

Having been assured that the house would be deep cleaned before our stay I was horrified by the state of the place.

It was extremely disappointing. On opening the front door and seeing the place for the first time I really didn’t know if I actually could bear to stay there for a whole week. Putting new geraniums in pots outside was no answer to making the rooms fresh and clean and clearing out all the clutter. The big bedroom on the right was so very dirty that no one would sleep in it. We found cloth and huge dust balls under the bed. It was disgraceful. The pillows and under sheet were not clean in the other two bedrooms. Only one bedroom on the right was of a decent standard. The carpets were so grubby and not suitable for my 9 month granddaughter to crawl on. The kitchen was haphazard and badly equipped. We had to take a door off the kitchen cupboard on the first night as it was loose and dangerous. The whole place was fusty and grubby. It was actually creepy to be there. The patio was unswept. The list goes on. As I had been in touch with Sykes before about the state of the house and been reassured that it would be deep cleaned I was hugely disappointed to find such an unbelievably dirty place. I expected some refund. I also recommend that you take this property off your books as it doesn’t reflect well on your company to have such a substandard property on your books. I shall email photos.

Lovely house in an stunning location for exploring the English Riviera.

The house itself is comfy and well appointed, including little things like some board games in the cupboards and a well appointed kitchen including all utensils and equipment you'd need. The view over the bay is absolutely stunning and i could have just sat and looked out of the window all week! Lovely little garden out the back, ideal for my toddler to run around in. The conservatory is a lovely addition to sit in and watch the sun set. Ideally the wifi could do with replacing or upgrading as you can only get a strong signal if downstairs, but not a deal breaker. Again would be handy if there was a washing machine but we knew that beforehand so just made sure we packed accordingly. There have been previous reviews about cleanliness. It's a holiday let fully booked back to back for 2 months+, so realistically you'd never get a deep clean between lets. Yes there were a couple of cobwebs but on the whole i was happy with the level of cleanliness. The comment about kitchen stuff being greasy is more to do with previous renters than the cleaner as they cant be expected to re wash everything every week. We had a lovely week here and will definitely rebook to stay here next time we are in the area. Thanks for a lovely stay
