What our customers say about their holidays

    • John - Verified booking

Having had experience of other holiday cottages, I feel able to offer some constructive critique.

Firstly I would say that we had a wonderful week in Trearddur - it’s a lovely location and conducive to restorative rest and relaxation. The location of the cottage is ideal. The cottage itself is comfortable and fine for 2 people. It lacks natural light so if the weather is not fine it can be claustrophobic in the living area. The amenities are fine, apart perhaps from a fridge which is difficult to access (particularly the lower shelves) in its current location and the lack of a washing machine/airer/washing line. Wi-fi is not really as advertised as you need to move away from the cottage to a nearby central area which is accessed by a key which hangs in the kitchen and was not noticed by us until the day before our departure. In this regard a welcome folder of detailed information might be better than sheets of A4 posted in the kitchen. The garden is nice although the garden furniture is pretty worn and not in keeping with the otherwise good quality provision in the cottage. We took our own chairs and were able to relax in the garden; this would not have been as enjoyable had we had to use what is in place. Finally the welcome pack, including the bottle of Prosecco was a nice touch and was appreciated.

Even though the photos show that this property is close to the shoreline, you don't really get it until you stand in the upper floor living space and gaze out of the windows.

It's truly mesmerising! The owner waiting back for us to greet us personally, even though we had been caught up in Friday evening traffic-what a start to the holiday to have such a friendly face greeting us (along with homemade cake, chocolates and a bottle of wine). The property is amazingly well equipped with all the bedrooms having huge fluffy pillows and bedding to cosy up in. The copious amounts of bathrooms made family and friends living a breeze with plenty of heat and hot water for all. That aside, it didn't stop us jumping in the sauna every day after the long walks up and down the coast path, right on the doorstep. The upper floor open living space is where we spent most of our time (when not outside) and there were plenty of comfortable seating options all around the room. All the utensils you could wish for are in the kitchen if you chose to stay in a cook in the kitchen, but a short walk away is a host of places to eat from ice-creams at the sea-shanty cafe, through lunches to fabulous dinners at the Balck Seal.

A lovely bijou cottage that catered for every need.

Very well equipped and a great base to explore from. We were grateful for the thoughtful welcome pack. Previous comments we had read suggested a problem with saucepans being old. This is no longer the case, they were virtually new. No complaints in the kitchen! Our only “ criticism “ would be that whilst we understand cost to be kept to minimum, it could benefit from updating some useable cushions to replace those already there, ( they are flat and offer no support on the sofa). The pillows in the bedroom were a tad lifeless too but we had brought our own anyhow just incase. Garden was lovely too, but the furniture again, neglected and some could do with being disposed of ax unusable. It’s a shame there wasn’t a small fence though to keep our dog from escaping, but obviously we stayed with him the whole time. These are only small things, and didn’t spoil our stay, but intended only as positive feedback. It’s a really well looked after property otherwise. Loved it ****

The location is truly ideal, with the beach, shops, and restaurants all within a pleasant walking distance.

This aspect certainly made our daily outings enjoyable and hassle-free. However, upon entering the cottage, we were immediately struck by a very strong smell reminiscent of a wet dog. Unfortunately, this odour was pervasive enough that we felt compelled to purchase air fresheners to mitigate it. The cleanliness of the cottage left much to be desired, as we noticed spiders and webs in nearly every corner of each room. The bathroom presented its own set of issues, notably dampness and visible mould. These conditions were particularly concerning as they exacerbated breathing problems for an asthma sufferer. Despite reaching out to Sykes Cottages about the dampness and general condition of the property, our message went unanswered. In summary, while the cottage's location is undeniably fantastic, the state of cleanliness and maintenance was disappointing and marred what could have been a much more enjoyable stay.

The cottage was in a lovely location and we had a great holiday.

We didn't get to use the back garden but it was a great private area that would be fantastic in the summer. The off road parking was much appreciated. It was absolutely filthy behind the bed but otherwise the rest of the cottage was very clean. I dropped something down the back of the bed and in retrieving it I was disgusted (which isn't like me because I am quite relaxed about cleanliness). The cottage was warm and comfortable. The lack of cutlery and crockery was annoying as it meant that we couldn't use the dishwasher - e.g. 2 bowls and 2 large plates, 4 knives and 4 forks is not enough for self catering. We had to wash up after meals so we had enough crockery and cutlery for the next meal - this was a major annoyance. It would also be good to have a towel rail for the towels in the bathroom. The owner should also know that the shower cubicle leaks quite significantly.
