What our customers say about their holidays

      DO NOT STAY HERE.

Holiday from hell. Firstly, upon arrival the place was disgusting. Beyond disgusting. No cleaners had been sent after previous guests. The bed was ridden with dog urine, messed up and stinking, the bathroom was decorated with used, wet, smelly towels covered in dog hairs. The toilet was unflushed and dirty. The sofa was soaking wet with dog hair and smelt like urine and cigarettes. Unswept floors, crumbs on the sides, just revolting. I immediately contacted the owner, she said she’d send out a cleaner. They made us vacate the property with our baby and child and dog, in a hurricane with torrential rain and severe winds with no on site establishment allowing dogs inside, the cleaners said it would take ‘ a really long time ‘ at 7pm we were able to return, cold, soaking wet and miserable, to find the place was still a mess. The smell was horrific, the children’s bed was damp, untouched by cleaners, false nails in the covers and under the pillows, dog hair all over the place. No toilet roll, no clean towels, no sofa to sit on as it was still soaking and smelly, At this point we requested a full refund so we could go elsewhere but we’re ignored until refused. Having used all our savings to book this place we were stuck. So we cuddled into the one bed, lay on our own towels and slept together in there. The next day I spent 4 hours deep cleaning the property as we were still be ignored and not refunded. The owner would tel us to contact Sykes and Sykes would say it’s the owner who has to sort it. Hours of phone calls, back and forth, we realised we were loosing the battle and tried to just make the most of it while we can. We still had to answer phone calls recal details and so forth. Found the cleaners stole our bag with our babies bottle inside, food, drinks, baby milk and more, who refused to acknowledge this, lied to the owner and refused to refund that also. We decided to request the first night to be refunded instead of the whole stay. That was also refused and declined. On top of all this, there’s no oven. No cheese grater, no loo roll, no towels, no clean bedding, no cleaning tools, no basics I.e tea or coffee, no welcome booklet to tel you to book in at reception through the third management of the chalet meaning we were refused access to the pool and the food establishments The doors are faulty, the bathroom door locks itself due to a fault catch and left our 8 year old daughter locked inside screaming while had to try and break it open, the shower doors don’t close properly, toilet doesn’t flush properly, the door separating the living area to the bedrooms doesn’t close unless slammed multiple times, the main doors leave a gap with cold air at the bottom. I could go on. We leave today and our children have rashes, one caught ring worm, we’ve been bitten by fleas and to anyone wondering we would have just gone home and given up but we couldn’t afford extra train tickets This was hell. And still we had no refund, no apologies, nothing. I will NEVER stay here again. Please DONT BOOK

The lodge is very modern, spacious and comfortable with a real homely feeling.

As other guests have stated, with the lodge being situated literally at the top of the site, the views of the sea and surrounding hills and countryside are great, providing an almost panoramic view. If the walk uphill to the lodge doesn't keep you fit enough you can always use the on-site pool, situated near the on-site shop, restaurant and reception. There are TVs in each bedroom but as just the two of us, the one in lounge was enough. The owners, though on holiday themselves, took the trouble to email to make sure everything was ok for us and Molly their cleaner had left us a lovely welcoming note on our arrival. Borth seems to be a great place for families attracted by its extensive beach but we preferred to use it as a base to tour from, visiting lots of the other coastal villages up and down the coast line as well as some in-land attractions. New Quay with it's pretty harbour and Aberaeron with it's wonderfully painted Georgian houses. The RSPB reserve at Ynys-Hir is a wonderful day out if you like the outdoors and wildlife spotting, would just make sure to take your own provisions for lunch as their offering was limited and pricey. The university town of Aberystwyth with all the usual high street shops, supermarkets and restaurants, was another good day out. On the day we visited they had an artisan street market selling lots of locally produced goodies and a brass band to entertain you while shopping. The Butterfly Farm and the walks round the Rheidol Reservoir were also interesting places to visit. All in all great accommodation, lots to do and see in the area even when the weather wasn't at its best.

This is a very attractive property in a superb position on the site.

It's at the top of a steep hill, but this means that it is secluded and quiet (nothing behind it but a bank with wild flowers, then trees, and the lodge in front is completely hidden by the slope) and the wide view over the sea, the estuary and Borth is quite special. The lodge is extremely well-appointed, furnished in a modern style, sparkling clean and very comfortable. My friend and I chose it partly because I'm disabled, we're both old and it had a ramp rather than steps, but be warned, it's a very long ramp and getting the luggage in was still hard work - not a problem for normally fit people, obviously. One tiny niggle, born out of the high quality of the appliances. Having less sophisticated ones at home, we were a bit bemused by the controls on the cooker/microwave and the dishwasher and there were no instructions; a little list of icons and their meanings would have been very useful! The friendly and concerned owner tried really hard to communicate with us before and during our stay. Unfortunately for both parties, it all landed in my Spam folder, so believe the Sykes site and take their advice to check your spam! Because we didn’t receive the instructions we'd been sent to guide us through the site, we asked for directions at Reception and were told, oh that's the best spot on the site. It was, and we recommend it thoroughly.

The small bedroom is extremely small, the only room , in the bedroom is what you see in the photo, so its more ideal for younger children, my son is 5 7" tall and very active yet struggled to get onto the top bunkbed ,the bathroom was very nice in size and the double bedroom although small was comfortable, the sitting room/kitchen had everything and was also a nice size and comfortable this is a very nice and comfortable lodge as well as clean so I would recommend it but probably better for couples or younger families, the beds were also very comfortable and clean, the area around it is very nice and it was easy to find, we did enjoy our stay here and was very happy with it all, with the exception of the teenagers, who for them felt it was cramped, for myself and my husband we would happily come back here again and we did all enjoy our stay, I also liked that it was dog friendly and still very clean and nice, even our little dog loved his stay here to, I would recommend this place for a nice and relaxing break

No hot water due to low pressure.

Awaiting part refund as this ruined our holiday and we vacated earlier because of it. Attempted to shower between 9-11am and 5-7pm without any joy. Plumber came out and informed us low pressure meant no hot water. Only place for the frying pans is the bin. Had to wash cups and plates before we used them. Kitchen not fully equipped for 4 people. Even tho this is a dog friendly chalet and we were travelling without a dog the blanket on the sofa was covered in dog hairs. Chalet windows filthy and when opening doors and windows the trims were also filthy. Carpets in bedrooms also ready for the bin. No view of the bay as described just a concrete block. Car park and other chalets. Towels and bedding supplied were over washed / dated. Who would want to stay in a bed with animal print unless you're on safari?!! Overall a very disappointing ruined family holiday. We all couldn't wait to come home. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here. Sykes need to take it off. Do not book here!
