What our customers say about their holidays

    • Madeleine - Verified booking

Positives are that the lodge has a very spacious living/kitchen/dining area.

However, outdoor space was not clean. Decking was dirty and unswept, not cleaned before arrival. Seating could do with being replaced as picnic bench is tatty. Photo on website shows decking in its “new” state which does not reflect the reality. I contacted the maintenance manager via phone who was very pleasant and apologetic about this and advised he would come the following morning to remedy. He also said he would bring a bottle of Prosecco - a very nice gesture! However, the next day I didn’t feel the clean was thorough (was done whilst out) as the decking was still very dirty beneath the table. Sadly no bottle of Prosecco either, so unsure why that was ever promised! I also rang Sykes to advise the state of the twin beds was not acceptable. The mattress on one is fit for nothing but the skip - it’s clearly broken as it’s sunken and you can feel the springs. It’s fortunate my child was ok to sleep on this as I certainly wouldn’t have been. Neither of the beds had mattress protectors which is basic hygiene practice that I would expect in any rental. The sheets were also threadbare and did not fit the mattresses properly. I was advised that the man coming for the decking would also remedy this issue. The sheets were replaced but were still too small. I can see a comment from 2021 which states that mattress protectors are needed and a mattress replacing, which has been responded to as being addressed by the owners, but clearly has not been. This is quite disappointing. In terms of the rest of the accommodation, I would suggest not mentioning that there are games and books - there are no books and two games, one with no instructions. Folder of information was falling apart and could do with being replaced and refreshed. All in all this location is fine as a base, however I would not stay in this accommodation again.

We had a lovely time at Little Jack's at Honnicombe Manor.

It is a very well presented little cottage that was very clean and had most things we could want. It was clean, comfortable and well maintained set in a nice location and had easy access to most of the activities on the site. There is a fairly decent internet connection in the cottage although it did slow at peak times of the day and with 3 of us using it (better than most holiday cottages I've been to though). There were unfortunate limitations on accessing things like the swimming pool and gym as well as the games room being closed, but this was due to Covid 19 restrictions which were unavoidable. You had to book to use either pool and the gym as well as having to prebook to go into the restaurant. The location is great with a restaurant/pub on site as well as a small shop. A big Tesco is only 3 miles away and another supermarket in the opposite direction not much further than that. There are a few sites of interest such as Cotehele manor and activity centres such as Tamar Trails within a couple of miles and good driving links to most of Cornwall and Devon. I recommend you go and have a wander to the top of nearby Kitt Hill for a look around. For the mandatory cornish pasties there is a small factory shop in nearby Callington for 'Over the top pasties' that has recently won awards and was absolutely delicious. The only slight criticisms I would make, and these are 'slight'; We could have done with a spare set of towels for us all and a wok to do easy one pot family meals. The water pressure isn't always amazing, but was always good enough and we had no issues with water temperature or the water going off which is mentioned in other reviews.

We had a lovely holiday at Halcyon Days property. The bedrooms and beds were extremely comfortable, the showers were perfect and cleaned well. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. We did bring additional washing machine/dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid/disinfectant spray, toilet gel, bleach and spray as we used these everyday. We couldn’t make the dryer work but used these hanging rail on the balcony instead. The jacuzzi was fab and really enjoyed it. There were board games at the property to keep everyone entertained, which was a bonus. We booked this property because it had access to the Retallack Resorts indoor swimming pools free of charge (just got to call the resort and pre-book slots) with access to gym, sauna and steam room. We didn’t use the gym but the sauna wasn’t working when we got there which was a shame. There’s also entertainment that included at Retallack when booking this property for children and adults also a small playground/game room at the resort. The restaurant is terrible (the service was bad and it took 1.5 hours to get our food.) so remember to do a shop at the supermarket or have it scheduled for delivery to the property prior to coming. We regretted not doing this because everything was far away and we couldn’t get food delivery. Negatives: We had some minor hiccups at the property as the kettle was old, the barbecue wasn’t cleaned, the property is dog friendly so it didn’t match my cleanliness standards and vacuum wasn’t usable but aside from that we had a lovely stay. Rate 4/5 in spite of the negatives as we enjoyed our stay.

We booked this house which looked ideal for our family holiday use. The site and location are superb for a family beach recreation getaway. SADLY the property Halcyon Days was certainly not as expected for the cost of the weeks rental. The property once we actually got inside .. (cleaners were late and very poor) was filthy Dogs hair dust cobwebs everywhere and absolutely no cleaning agents available. We went to the site shop bought bleach bin bags and cloths. Spent our first hour cleaning ! When we went to use the jacuzzi the patio slabs around it were loose very dangerous. The BBQ had been used and left with food in it Each balcony its furniture needed cleaning as did the patio furniture. We were contacted a few days before departure explaining the lakeside view and access was fenced off. No reason or explanation offered even after asking ? We still have no idea ? The grass area outside the patio area wasn’t cut as nothing can get in due to the Harris fencing ! As a family away celebrating a significant birthday we were desperately disappointed with the state of what should be a great house for vacation. It is neglected and in need of serious renovation especially in the communal areas. I’d recommend the site there are plenty of other houses lodges but avoid “Halcyon Days” until the faults are put right.

I was a little worried after reading the last review, however it could not have been further from the truth!

We found it to be spotless, comfortable and very well equipped . Everything was excellent quality, furniture was good quality and very comfy sofas ( we had our own sofa blanket for the dog but blankets were supplied ) . Clearly time and effort has been invested in this lodge to make it so comfortable. It looks like the outside of the lodge has recently been refurbished to a high standard and we had a lovely evening sitting outside the lodge on a quiet still evening. Beds were really good. comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. It's a very nice quiet clean park. It is a great base for seeing the local area. Having been in hospitality for years my baseline is always whether or not I would stay again, and I would absolutely stay here again, really enjoyed our stay! Well situated to enjoy the local attractions, A must is an afternoon at Clovelly which is a half hour drive. The National Trust Sandymouth Bay Beach is two miles away , we went there every morning with our dog who loved the rock pools as we enjoyed a coffee overlooking the bay . Live music at Crooklets Beach Bar in Bude and dinner in the local village pub close to the park (Kilkhampton ) , perfect end to a perfect stay. We will be back !
