What our customers say about their holidays

    • Trudy - Verified booking

The lodge was wonderful & comfy to stay in.

Great location & outlook & proximity to Sewerby Hall & Cliffs. Great walking & lovely to have the facility of the Golf Clunhouse nearby for drinks on their wonderful terrace. Some comments both for future clients &/or for owners & letting agents to consider : -The entry key pad to access the key for the front door is very loose & actually fell out if it’s socket once. - No tea pot or milk jug in the kitchen which we found strange ? - No beer mugs or beer glasses ? - No plastic picnic style glasses to use on the deck for safety ? - Very limited cutlery with only 4 teaspoons & No serving spoons, few food serving bowls & limited oven baking trays. Sadly - Some items were broken when we arrived as in kitchen towel rail, & external trim of sliding door to deck area. It must be said too that the Bed linen to spare twin bedroom was of poor quality & not great to use. Unfortunately, we found all sorts of dog food especially a giant dog chew & various solid food pellets underneath the lounge footstool when we moved its position - which means the cleaners hadn’t cleaned the lodge thoroughly after that previous clients. Having said that we enjoyed our stay (apart from the awful weather) & improvised using kitchen equipment to cook some marvellous meals. It was a good week. We left early due to the weather & incessant rain. But would return to the site in the future but perhaps to a lodge away from the main access road into the site m.

The design of the holiday home was great, with lots of storage and a well-thought-through layout, and it was well-equipped.

The only things we'd add would be some hooks on the bedroom doors for jackets, some coasters? (we weren't sure whether it was OK to put hot drinks on the tables) and perhaps some lighter-weight duvets for summer/early autumn. The owner happened to be in Sewerby and came out very promptly to the couple of problems we did have, one of which was fixed there and then (the leaking radiator) - the other will be looked at under the holiday home's warranty (faulty lock on the patio doors). The only other thing we'd highlight is that the rubber cover for the key box leaks black colour on your hands (and it looked like the colour had been running down the wall in the rain too), so it might be an idea to replace that with another sort of cover. The location of the holiday home on the site was lovely, not far from the woods where some deer lived - the only disturbance was from the construction of another holiday home a little way to the back of ours, which will happen from time to time on a developing site. We liked that the home's outdoor area was fully enclosed by fencing and a gate so that our dog could safely be allowed outside and we could have the patio doors open. Lovely base for visiting Filey, Bridlington (walking distance or on the land-train), the local nature reserves and beaches (Danes Dyke NR is also walking distance) and of course Sewerby Hall & Gardens which is right next door.

Alf - is actually Alfie, Lodge no 32.

This info will help you find the lodge easier when you arrive. What a lovely quiet setting. Very rural feel to it. Lodges are all nicely spaced out so not on top of each other. A lovely spacious lodge - and wow you will love the en-suite bathroom. Well fitted out with a big fridge and freezer ample space for a weeks worth of shopping. There is a really useful larder unit (love that idea). Take some coat hangers if you like to hang your clothes in the wardrobes). Tip: I found on the last day!!! The airer for washing is under the bed. If only I had known. All lovely soft towels provided (although I took my own). The king size bed - at last I have found a comfortable bed in a lodge. My only criticism- needs blackout blinds or liners on curtains - awake with the larks as it gets very light early. Flamborough seems to have a fly problem - take some fly spray Superb view from the balcony, and a route down to the beach. A lovely sun trap and completely safe for children or pets. Bin store near the Golf club house. The restaurant only do breakfasts and light lunches (evening meal would have been a bonus). If you like to watch TV - I don’t know why but some channels need a pin no a bit odd we wanted to watch ITV X but Needed a pin no. Will definitely be back- soon I hope.

The home was really lovely, as was the setting, just like the pictures.

It was very comfortable (master ensuite bathroom was amazing) and clean and the milk and cookies were a lovely touch. The issues we had were really only around information and contact. The house is Alfie, not Alf and its number 32, an update to the listing photo would be a good, as both are shown clearly on the chalet. A site map would also be useful to help find the place. Passes to walk through Sewerby Hall and Gardens were left for us, but no instructions or map to help us find our way. We couldn't find where the bins were, but a helpful workman told us, 'up by the golfclub house'. Also on our last night the water cut out completely, we had no idea who to contact for help. The very kind couple next door made a phone call and a knight on a golf buggy came to sort it all out for us, just a tap at the back of the chalet to turn on, but without our neighbours we would have been stuck. An emergency contact for someone on site would be really useful, if it had happened during the week, we would have had no one to ask. OR an idiots basic guide for the chalet, if I'd know where to look for the water tap, our poor golf buggy knight wouldn't have had to get out of bed to come and help

The property is in a garden at the back of the house, the parking is on the front of the house and to access the lodge you walk down the side of the garage.

The lodge is in its own fenced off area. Inside it is mostly comfortable apart from the settee which is very saggy and could be in need of replacing. The beds were very comfortable as was the outside sitting area. The Lodge was clean and tidy although we found there could have been more equipment in the kitchen, things missing included washing up sponge, measuring jug, oven trays, torch, ice cube tray, only one tea towel, brush and dustpan or sweeping brush. Although the description said there was a gas bbq it was not there. A welcome pack would have been nice, maybe a cake, some milk or bottle of wine etc. Things we loved, lovely shower and bath, plenty of hot water, the lodge was lovely and warm obviously well insulated, we loved the outside sitting area, the king sized bed was very comfortable, it was also very quiet and we could sit and watch the birds, rabbits and occasional deer. The TV was a good size. We would definitely come back to the lodge to stay again but based on our experience of a lot of Sykes cottages we feel it just needs a few things tweaking and it would be 10/10.
