While parking can be tight and some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is very positive, with many guests planning return visits.

The cottage is consistently described as clean and well-maintained, with several reviews highlighting its spotless condition. Only one review mentioned an unpleasant smell, which seems to be an isolated incident.

About this property

Dating from the 1600s Ivy Cottage is a lovely thatched Grade II listed cottage sitting on the village road leading to Lulworth Cove in Dorset. It is semi-detached to its sister cottage Little Ivy.

Situated in the heart of West Lulworth, one of the most popular villages along the coast in Dorset, Ivy Cottage retains many features such as original beams.

Welcoming 2 well behaved pets you will feel comfortable relaxing in the secured garden after an exciting day out. The house is fully equipped giving guests that ‘home from home' feel.

Lulworth Cove, famous for its geologically unique and beautiful cove is only a few minutes’ walk from the property where you will find tempting seasonal shops and kiosks including those specialising in ice cream, fudge and sea food. Access to The South West Coast Path is also just a short walk away, where you have a choice of directions offering fantastic walks, views and scenery. Make sure to check opening times to nearby Range walks for access to Fossil Forest and the ghost village at Tyneham. Alternatively, you can look for some fossils and admire different landscape with Jurassic coast rocks at the nearby beautiful Chapman’s Pool, Kimmeridge bay.

Close to the cottage is The Castle Inn, a pet friendly pub with a comfortable garden. A visit to famous Durdle Door, an iconic rock formation rising from the sea and resembling a doorway, is a must. This is also a favoured area for snorkelling from the beach or walking along the cliffs.

A kayak tour can be arranged locally from Lulworth Cove and it's an experience to treasure as you are shown secret little pools, fossils and beaches accessed via sea only.

About a 30-minute drive to the west is Weymouth and to the East is Swanage, both are traditional seaside towns and perfect for a day trip. On your return to Ivy Cottage after a adventurous day out why not eat alfresco in the enclosed garden whilst enjoying the last of the day's sun.

West Lulworth boasts the most dramatic geological features on the Jurassic coast line and arguably the most photographed locations in the UK is Durdle Door. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door sit side by side at the heart of this area and really are a must visit. Lulworth Cove has many little café’s and beach side shacks serving local seafood, ice cream and other delights, as well as several restaurants and pubs from which to choose. There is an Lulworth estate information centre which offers an insight into how the cove and Durdle door were formed and Jurassic history of the region. If you tire of Cove and cliff top walks then Lulworth Castle is a short drive away and offers another glimpse at some more recent history, along with Tyneham Village, and Corfe Castle. This is a really special area and the village retains a lot of it’s thatched cottages and has a real air of a rural retreat.

Everything we needed and a lovely Christmas tree too which made it special. The lounge was spacious and comfortable and a very nice dining room which we used for Christmas dinner. Nice to be able to eat in the kitchen at the table for breakfast. Great enclosed garden as we have a small dog. The driveway goes out onto a slight bend so you need to be careful when walking or driving out but in the winter the traffic is generally slow and was very light. Great walks around and only a short walk to the cove. Next door to a super pub, no noise, amazing food and very helpful staff.

Lulworth and Dorset is so beautiful. We had a wonderful week with our labradoodle. Would recommend. Parking my evoque was fine and all you need to do is back out slowly..... Pubs are fab, food yum and scenery to die for! Housekeeping need to leave bin bags as non for rubbish and wheelie but hey didnt distract from holiday! Thank you!

Recent updates include upgraded bathrooms. Only minor would be to update the kitchen equipment, an air fryer would be a huge bonus to the kitchen & would reduce the use of the electric oven. But otherwise would highly recommend, just be aware the driveway is narrow and needs to be manoeuvred with care, luckily I don’t park the car!
