Ballybunion is steeped in a rich history that can be traced back to the 14th century, when Ballybunion castle was established. In 1923 the castle came under the care of the Office of Public Works, who remain its custodians to this day. The village is also home to the Ballybunion golf course; ranked in the top ten golf courses in the world. Ballybunion is a site of great natural beauty and possesses a wide range of flora and fauna. Bird-lovers and wildlife enthusiast can often see a multitude of birds nesting and foraging including seagulls, shags, cormorants, herons and various other migratory birds. It is ideally situated for the lovely, unspoilt and largely deserted beach (10 minutes walk across the golf course). There are plenty of places nearby to eat and drink. We hope to return to this cottage sometime.

We particularly enjoyed meals at McMunns, the Mariner and Kilcoolyâs. Strollers by the golf club was excellent but quite pricey! The owners of the cottage were very welcoming and helpful - real Irish hospitality! Thank you. The cottage was very well equipped for cooking but we could not get wi-fi. Should have asked if it was available.
