Townhead Cottage is praised for its stunning, peaceful location with direct access to walks and nature, including red squirrels and lake views. Guests appreciate the property's charm, cosy atmosphere, and garden. Some mention the property being well-appointed and the owners being welcoming. While there are mentions of maintenance issues and dated decor, these do not detract significantly from the overall positive experiences.
The cottage received mixed feedback on cleanliness. One guest mentioned a greasy kitchen, but there are no widespread complaints, suggesting that cleanliness is generally satisfactory but with room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its beauty, tranquillity, and proximity to nature and walks. The remote setting is considered a significant asset, despite some comments on the challenging access by road.
Comfort is generally well-regarded, with mentions of a cosy lounge and comfortable bed, although there are some negative comments about a low bed and hard mattress. The warmth provided by heating is appreciated, but some guests noted issues with the open fire.
Facilities are adequate with some thoughtful touches like WiFi and a woodburner, but guests reported maintenance issues such as electrical problems and a blocked chimney. The dated bathroom and kitchen also received some criticism.
There is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches beyond the standard amenities provided, so it is not possible to score this category. However, the provision of items like electric blankets and wood for the fire suggests some consideration for guest comfort.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed.

The heating seems a bit strange (bathroom on all the time) but - Great location for a quiet retreat if you go prepared with provisions. Lovely the hear the birdsong along with glimpses of the squirrels. The pictures give an accurate representation of what to expect.

It's a beautiful place to stay for those who love walking out the door and into the surrounding hills and mountains without having to drive somewhere. The garden is the perfect place to start the morning with a coffee while watching the wildlife, or to enjoy a glass or two in the evening. The accommodation suits us just as it is; we never come away wishing it had more bells and whistles.

Exactly what we wanted. 5 minute walk to the lake - endless swims and paddleboarding. Bliss. Recommend the 1863 restaurant if you want to splash on great dinner in town - expensive but worth every penny.
