What our customers say about their holidays

    • Siobhan - Verified booking

We had such a brilliant stay at Little Winder, the cottage was perfect for us and our little dog.

We enjoyed walks from the door step, (Including Athur’s Pike and Bonscale Pike) watched the red squirrels playing in the trees from the window and slept peacefully after days of hiking. The location and views from the cottages was superb. The cottage itself has a good sized entrance hall to take off your walking gear and a shared drying room next door to hang anything wet out on the heaters. The Amazon TV was great and we just logged into our Netflix in the evening or watched the free view channels from the comfy sofa. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook tea each night, there isn’t a freezer on its own just a small compartment in the fridge but we only needed ice so no issue for us. The bed was big and comfortable, the shower was compact but lovely and powerful and hot. There was a secure dog field to let the dog off the lead and have a good play. The hosts were brilliant, made sure we had everything we needed and left us a welcome gift which was such a nice touch. We would definitely stay again.

Beautiful property and garden, clearly the owners have put a lot of work into making it look the business; a lot of modern touches while remaining in keeping with the age of the cottage.

I loved that there was street parking directly outside, as it made it super easy to unload and load the car, especially with having my two dogs with me. Also loved the tap & hose by the front door for boot cleaning, so handy for muddy walks! The local Co-op shop was hands down the biggest and best stocked Co-op I've ever been to, you can buy all sorts there! And it's only a few mins walk up the road. Some very helpful leaflets for local attractions left in the cottage and also the cottage manual contained a lot of useful info. My only gripe would be (and its only a relatively minor one) is that there are no temperature markings on the electric hob dials or on the toaster temperature dial, so you have to just guess through trial and error what temperature you're setting them at. But all in all, we had a very pleasant stay and would certainly stay again, particularly as Lazonby itself was such a lovely place with very friendly people.

A warm and friendly welcome from Sasha.

Lovely Christmas card and bottle of wine which was much appreciated. The cottage was very nice, warm and cosy. Loved the staircase. The bedroom was very inviting, really comfy bed. Tv, kettle, tea and coffee. Good idea to have another toilet downstairs. Our son came and slept on the sofa bed, he said it was fine. He definitely enjoyed chilling out. Enjoyed walking down to the dog friendly pub. Had a excellent meal in The feathers. Went into the next pub which was also dog friendly but could only go in when meals not served. Good base to explore area. Went to Penrith and Keswick. Enjoyed both. Beautiful countryside, weather really kind to us at this time of year. Suggest leave a torch in the cottages if you are walking back to the cottage. It only took us 20 minutes to the cottage. Would recommend. Thank you Sasha and Alex, it was great we could take our dog with us.

The Coach House is in an ideal position for exploration of the Eden Valley and surrounding attractions.

After a day doing this it was pleasant to relax on the decking, listening to the birds in the adjacent woods The cottage itself is quirky with curved walls in all the rooms and a cramped kitchen. It has all the equipment and facilities for a comfortable holiday and on arrival was thoroughly clean although the ensuite drains needed a deep clean in an attempt to remove an unpleasant smell. Some of the door knobs are positioned in such a way as to trap fingers of the un-wary. The door to the ensuite cannot be closed fully but can be held in place while sitting on the toilet! We were perhaps unfortunate in that the hot water and heating boiler broke down repeatedly during the first four days of our week. Overall despite some niggles we had a very enjoyable stay.

Garden Cottage is an extremely pleasant place to stay.

Clean, comfortable with all the amenities one would wish for and a very pleasant, helpful owner. The only negative was that it was chilly when we arrived because the underfloor heating had not warmed up sufficiently, but that improved over the weekend. And we could have lit the ready-prepared log fire had we been too cold (and we had particularly cold weather for May). A folder with local information, like nearest hospital, doctor, supermarkets, etc, would have been helpful. We were surprised that one was not available because they are usually provided in holiday cottages. But that did not detract from our stay. We will definitely be back because overall, this is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed at.
