      The cottage was perfect.

It was spotlessly clean and more than spacious enough for 2 adults with your furry friends. The cottage is in a picture postcard location with the river running in front of it. Every room was beautifully furnished with everything you need to create a home from home. The living room was warm and cosy with a comfortable sofa and chair with throws for both. Lovely little additional touches everywhere. The kitchen was more than well equipped with everything you need and more. The bedroom was really cosy with king size bed which was soft but so comfortable. A lovely spacious shower room with large shower cubicle. The 2nd small bedroom is made into a delightful dressing room. There is a small cosy conservatory overlooking the backyard whch is fenced off to form a safe enclosed space for dogs. Parking is roadside just opposite the cottage but the road is very quiet and only half a minute walk over the footbridge to unload the car so no issue at all. A thoughtful welcome pack was provided upon arrival, this was much appreciated thank you (especially the most amazing chocolate brownies I've ever tasted!). The village of Cark is very quaint and quiet with one convenience store for essentials and a pub (The Engine Inn). The pub is disappointing however only 1.5miles away is the beautiful village of Cartmel with a few fabulous pubs with amazing food and also a Michelin starred restaurant. There is a lovely daytime footpath walk between the 2 villages. Cark is a lovely quiet base away from the touristy towns of the Lake District however Bowness/Windermere are 25mins drive away and Ambleside only another 10mins further on from there. I would highly recommend a stay here and will definately return.

This cottage is in a beautiful setting just outside Cartmel.

Lovely views and idyllic gardens, with a specific closed in field to allow your dog to have a run. It’s not for nervous drivers as has to be accessed via narrow lanes but is typical of the Lake District. Lots of places to visit nearby. Much thought has gone into comfort for guests. It’s cosy, but bright and airy and warm . The bedrooms are ample and beds very comfortable. Lovely duvets and pillows for a good nights sleep. Lots of thoughtful touches including freshly cut flowers , fresh local bread and milk and even skin care products, shampoo and conditioner so I came home feeling pampered. Although dog friendly the owners are clear dogs must be well behaved and I did feel hyper vigilant, and if it had been raining I would have wanted to ensure dogs were washed , but a dog shower is provided outside the main house. We had towels in the porch to dry wet feet etc. If I were the owner of this house I would want guests with dogs to respect the high quality standard of this cottage. The only minor niggle is the tv in the living room had poor quality sound. It’s not our priority as we were out late two evenings and I had a book to read but we found it hard listening when playing a dvd or watching any programmes. Other electrical goods fridge freezer, oven washing machine, and tumble dryer ( if needed) all excellent condition . We loved it and would come again. Best Sykes Cottage I have ever stayed in . My friend who came with us said it’s the best holiday cottage she has ever stayed in. Thank you Karen & Martyn

The pictures do not do the lovely cottage justice.

Located in a beautiful tranquil location with lovely views of the Lake District countryside. Inside the cottage is clean, well maintained and quite luxurious. The bedroom is a real treat, large airy and a really nice bathroom too. The one downside of the stay was the sofa, it’s not the most comfortable and really could do with being replaced, but that didn’t detract from an otherwise lovely stay and as we had amazing weather I preferred sitting outside on the little patio in the sun having breakfast, lunch and dinner or just a cup of tea! The outside space is lovely and our dog loved the paddock where she could run around freely and have a lovely time sniffing. There is also a nice walk to Cartmel where you can get some yummy sticky toffee pudding or easily find somewhere for lunch or dinner. It’s a short drive to Windermere or grange over sands. In summary a perfect little place to stay.

Great location for getting around the area.

Nice little square with a bakery, local store, Chinese chip shop, and a lovely little post office, but it is a very busy thoroughfare, and can be noisy into the late evening. There is a pub, which was part way through a refurb, and was lively with the locals, if that's your thing. The property was clean, but lacked maintenance, with a door dangerously hanging off and lighting in the kitchen hanging down! Kitchen was well equipped, with a dish washer but the fridge freezer has seen better days. The garden was very overgrown, with holes in the hedge and fence, which we had to try and block, but it wasn't safe for our dog. The side alley leads straight onto a busy road and was to risky to let him out. There was also signs of rats in the raised planter, which was another risk to far. Certainly didn't resemble the photos in afraid.

A beautiful cottage in a lovely area.

The cottage was spotlessly clean, so comfortable and well equipped. The owners have thought of everything, we couldnt fault it. A very generous welcome pack for us and our dog which was lovely, thank you. The cottage is really homely and lovely to come back to after long walks in this stunning part of the country. The sofa is so comfortable, bed & bathroom lovely and the kitchen is really well equipped. The river outside was so picturesque and relaxing to hear. The neighbours next door were so lovely and gave us some useful tips of the area. We explored the surrounding area and there are so many gorgeous places to visit nearby. Cartmel is magical. We had a really great week and would highly recommend this lovely cottage. Our dog Duncan had the best time ever. Thank you! Jan, John & Duncan the happy Cocker Spaniel.
