What our customers say about their holidays

We had a lovely time at Cartmel lodge.

The lodge is situated beautifully, surrounded by trees and bushes. It's so quiet and you can enjoy watching the squirrels jumping between trees whilst relaxing in the hot tub. Inside the lodge is big and open and feels very homely, the kitchen has all the utensils you need and a great big fridge freezer too. The central heating is great also and warns the place up in no time! Ensuite shower was brilliant although the bath in the family room is quite small. I marked the lodge down on a few things. When arriving after a long drive and as it was cold we would have liked to use the log burner straight away but we couldn't as there were no logs left for us. There was no information as to where you get the logs so we had to travel out to find some from a supermarket. I thought this was a little poor. Also as we visited during autum the wooden steps and decking area was extremely slippy l and led to a family member slipping down the entrance steps and hurting themselves, luckily nothing too serious but when I messaged the owner I had no reply. The steps could do with some anti slip strips placing on them. The same goes for the decking to the rear, I slipped and one of the decking planks shifted next to the hot tub causing me to land on my knees. Again could be easily rectified. All in all a great week away and we would be happy to return.

Really lovely weekend, couldn’t be happier!

Booked as a surprise for my partner for his birthday and he was extremely pleasantly surprised. Hot tub was spacious, clean and a perfect place to sit on a chilly night and star gaze. With no light pollution, we had never seen so many and it made for a perfect evening, or two! Kitchen had 99% of things needed to make any meal and what it didn’t have you could get by with so no drama cooking big scrumptious meals instead of eating out. And the dish washer made the experience a pleasure relaxing together afterwards instead of standing over a sink for 40 minutes. Bed spacious and comfortable. I took some spare loo roll and we needed it by the second day. There was a small amount of tea and coffee, hot chocolate, and sugars so the local shop was ideal for stocking up on bits needed. I did an online shop and had it delivered right to the door of the lodge with was perfect. Kevin on site is very kind and will visit you to say hi and give you his number for wood deliveries for the log burner. The owner is very helpful and replied to my few queries with haste. Overall, amazing weekend, very comfortable, very relaxing and would 100% book this lodge for our next weekend away. Thank you to all that helped me organise it and then helped us enjoy it.

Really lovely lodge, situated in a beautiful location.

The property was clean and laid out well in general. Just a few things that could be addressed…The kettle was full of thick gooey limescale so we used a pan to boil our water. The cooker hadn’t been cleaned properly and there were some dirty glasses and pots in the cupboard. We do understand that cleaners are paid for these things so don’t hold this against the owners, but may be worth monitoring. A welcome pack would have been nice considering the cost of the lodge (we paid £1,200 for 1 week) I had wanted to vacuum and mop whilst there, however the Hoover pipe had a tear in it and the mop head was black. As stated before, the property really is lovely and comfortable, just a little tired and could benefit from a fresh lick of paint and a few new appliances to reflect the cost of the stay here, as do feel it was overpriced for what we got, had we paid a few hundred less this is what we would expect. All in all we did enjoyed our holiday.

We had a really lovely week in this lodge.

It was bright and airy, beds were very comfy and just a generally very welcoming place. Really warm, we barely used the heating, just to take the edge off first thing in the morning. The hot-tub was lovely and we were impressed at the daily checks of it. Well-equipped and the cutlery was actually nice - not those weird cheap sets that feel odd in your hand which most places seem to have. The bath towels are very small though, like those hotel ones that don't really cover you. Site is nice, it's really quiet, we hardly saw or heard anyone even though we were there during half-term week. A really relaxing place. There is recycling on the main road to the site, I don't think it mentions that in the guide book. Surrounding area is lovely, we did a few day trips out to see different places and lots of great scenery. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the area.

The lodge is in need of some TLC.

Examples include damaged bathroom sink, dishwasher and hot tub lid holder. The DVD buzzed annoyingly. Some of the kitchen equipment is in a poor state, particularly the pans. We found it bizarre that there was a washing machine but no airer. Towels were small and thin. There were no hot tub towels or dressing gowns. We wondered whether the owner has ever lived in the lodge. For example there were no hooks to hang towels and no electricity point near a mirror so drying/curling hair was very difficult. Also the information pack was poor with no information on local facilities, recommendations for dining and walks etc. The visitor book was full and had not been changed since last year. All of this seems a great shame as the lodge is a good size, secluded and in a nice setting. A small amount of effort could make it really nice.
