What our customers say about their holidays

The lodge and the photos online bear no resemblence to the exterior of the property.

The balcony seating area is badly in need of some cleaning. There was a pile of “dirt” on the outside table and the chairs were not usable until they had been cleaned and scrubbed by us. The bedding, towels etc were clean and fresh. However the overall cleanliness left a lot to be desired. The amount of dust, crumbs and cobwebs were not what we expected for the price that we paid. When we arrived the 1st thing my wife done was Joe down the full kitchen as there were crumbs etc and even some of the dishes still had food stuck to them. The dust in the glass on the extractor fan, I have left a message “dust me” on the top of it. This was supposed to be a break away for my wife, who is recovering from cancer and needs to ensure that everything is clean to avoid infections. The folding shower screen needs replaced as the seal at the bottom is torn away from the screen. This has resulted in “black” damp stains on the bath panel. There is a crack in the bottom of the toilet bowl in both toilets. The dust in the twin bedroom window, behind the curtain, beds and unit was really bad. The views from the lodge is fantastic and the cost of the lodge would easily be justified if the level of cleanliness was improved.

We had an incredibly disappointing stay in this property, relating to its poor maintenance and appalling standards of cleanliness.

The property is not the 5 star comfort described. By way of brief example, Kitchen cupboards are peeling, bath panel is water damaged, wooden floor terribly water stained. Of greater concern in these Covid times, the overall standards of cleanliness were simply unacceptable. By way of brief example, walls and doors were tea/coffee stained, windows smeared, crumbs on dining table, thick dust on windows sills, kitchen and hall cupboard shelves dirty. The property is well sited with beautiful views and with some much needed TLC and deep cleaning, it could be lovely. We spent the first 90 minutes of our holiday cleaning and eventually terminated out holiday early, desperate to be back to a beautiful, clean home. Its so disappointing to see similar concerns being raised as far back as April with what seems to be little or no action taken to respond to feedback. The description of this property and the accuracy of the listing, in my opinion, urgently needs review.

How Beck lodge is in a fantastic position and is beautifully designed but is let down by lack of proper maintenance.

The shelves in the fridge door were broken making it hard to fit in everything needed for a family of five. We couldn’t take advantage of the local milk delivery as there was no room. The laminate on the cupboards by the hob/ kettle was heat damaged and warped. The modular sofa is past its best especially the end block which wasn’t suitable as a seat as it sinks down in the middle. There was only one functional bedside light in the master bedroom. There are brambles growing up through the decking. None of this really spoiled our holiday but I was disappointed that these issues hadn’t been resolved during/after the lockdown when the lodge would have been empty. It just didn’t meet the “Luxury” description in your advertising.

The property was as described and had everything we needed for our stay.

It was like a home from home and even had a dog bowl which was perfect as we had forgotten to take one! As our stay was over the New Year period, it was very dark in the evening and would benefit from better lighting around the property, however we did not venture out much due to the weather. How Beck is right next to a fast running stream but as it rained for our whole stay we did not have the pleasuring of sitting out on the decking, which was quite slippery in any event so you do need to be careful. We hope to stay again in the summer to have the full experience of the light nights and warmer weather. All in all a great stay.

The lodge location was ideal for us.

Just a short walk to the village was fine and Conniston Lake wasn’t too far at all. We enjoyed the walk from Hawkshead to Wray Castle amd lots of other activities. The lodge wasn’t that clean and we only discovered on the last day that one of the patio doors didn’t actually lock. The kitchen facilities were fair and the sofa was relatively comfortable. I think the way the lodge is described isn’t in line with what you actually get. I do think the property needs to be upgraded and freshened up a bit. An enjoyable holiday overall for us
