What our customers say about their holidays

Farriers Cottage was lovely with everything we needed for a happy holiday .

A cosy fire for chilly evenings and exceptionally comfortable beds with beautiful country side on our doorstep. we had a lovely time dispite it raining solidly for 5 of our 7 days . For us the only draw back was we had our dog with us who we had to keep on a lead at all times outside the house because of the close proximity of the next door house/garden obviously private with instructions not to go into their garden at any time .Interestingly we did note that there was a public footpath which you can only access by walking over the next door garden. We wondered how that worked ? There was no mention of this at all ,but there was a sign quite clearly at the entrance of the drive and a stile in next doors garden in stone wall. I dont think this is an easy area if you have a big dog and want to go for off lead walks as there are sheep in every field , meaning leads at all times ,if we wanted a good walk we had to leave the dog in the car because you can't leave dogs in the house. Its no fault of the house at all maybe we should have done more reaserch .

We had a great stay at Farriers Cottage.

Its in a beautiful location & has everything that you need for a perfect holiday. The owners have made a big effort to make their house welcoming & cosy. It was spotless & the antique furniture & books & paintings made it feel very homely. We appreciated the information that they sent us beforehand as it made it easy for us to plan ahead. There were also plenty of leaflets & books in the cottage so we had no trouble finding places to visit. We thought the garden & patio at the cottage was very peaceful & we enjoyed listening to the birds & watching the rabbits on the lawn. Sedbergh is only a short drive away & we had great fun browsing the many bookshops there. We also had a great day at the Wensleydsle Creamery & thought some of the local museums were well worth a visit. We would love to come back here again & would highly recommend the cottage. To the owners Many Thanks for all youve to done to make your cottage a great wee getaway in the beautiful Yorkshire Dale's.

Felt the description could of been fairer.

States private garden but totally overlooked from the left by a block of low rise flats. Also no mention of being situated on a busy main road. The cottage itself was well equipped, appeared to be newly refurbished and was well placed for walking The Howgills. Unfortunately the tiny sofa was horrendous, you could only sit bolt upright as flat backed, too small for 2 adults even of average build, not great when you want to relax after a days walking. The sofa seriously needs changing. An L shaped sofa of normal size would work well under the window. No welcome pack, even milk would of been nice. We booked this as new to Sykes so no previous reviews to go by. We have mentioned the road as it was not an issue to us but could be to others, again with the overlooking issue from the flats. We have tried to give an informative review for others. The sofa is a must to sort and would be the only reason we would not stop here again.

Firstly we loved the location and the size of the property itself.

There was 7 of us and we had more than enough space to relax. We loved all the outdoor space! All the bedrooms were nicely sized and the beds were really comfy. The kitchen had everything we needed which was great! Only down side would be that the rooms were a little dusty and had alot of cobwebs everywhere. One thing to note about the property is that we had alot of issues with the lights going out and the water not working. On day 2 and 3 in the morning, the water stopped working so some of us couldn’t shower, even worse there was no water coming from the kitchen tap so we couldn’t even get drinking water or do the dishes. Eventually in the working it started working again however we noticed if you had the dishwasher on the water in the house would not work. Also if you put the oven on the electricity would trip for the outside lights. Overall, we did enjoy our stay at beckhall.

      Disappointed.

Cottage very nice but cleaning left a lot to be desired.didnt look as if it had been vacuumed (not surprised as vaccuum was completely blocked up).fire laid but not cleaned out.it was freezing cold when we arrived and could not get fire to burn.cleaned it out next morning and ash tray was full and blocking grate.had to scrape it all through.one bed had unironed sheets and looked unappealing.there was thick dust on bottom of lamp standards and a cork underneath a sofa?asked if it would be decorated for xmas and got no reply.decoration consisted of a string of lights across fireplace and a plastic wreath.could have taken some of my own had i known.also the person who left feedback to say he had a bottle of bubbly left for him was lucky.we didnt even get a con of pop.
