Snaptrip says

Abbots Reading Cottage is highly praised for its cleanliness, peaceful location, and friendly hosts. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, ample space, and pet-friendly environment. While some suggest improvements in comfort, such as softer beds and pillows, the overall experience is positive with many looking forward to returning.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The cottage receives consistent commendations for its spotless condition and immaculate presentation, indicating a high standard of cleanliness maintained throughout the property.

The property is celebrated for its beautiful, peaceful setting in the countryside, conveniently situated for exploring the Southern Lake District, and offering lovely walks and tranquillity.

While many guests find the cottage comfortable, there are several remarks about the hard mattresses and pillows. Suggestions for improvement include better quality mattress toppers and fluffier pillows to enhance the sleeping experience.

The cottage is well-regarded for its well-appointed kitchen and space. However, guests have noted that some appliances and furnishings, such as pans and duvets, could be updated, and the addition of a dishwasher would be beneficial.

There are no specific mentions of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts, such as welcome trays or complimentary items, so it is not possible to assess this category accurately.

About this property

Surrounded by gorgeous countryside with nearby woodland walk, this stunning cottage has been beautifully modernised whilst losing none of its vintage charm. Enjoying a secluded location within two acres of grounds, there are garden areas and patios with outdoor furniture, perfect for a spot of al-fresco dining. Dogs are welcome to stay, making this the ultimate holiday cottage for the whole family.

Entering the cottage through the spacious kitchen/dining room, guests will be struck by the high vaulted ceiling, country cottage charm and pretty outlook. From here a few steps lead into a fabulous sitting room with leather sofas, exposed beams, and solid oak furniture. A glorious spot with room for everyone to relax after supper enjoyed in one of the many local pubs and restaurants or prepared in the well-equipped kitchen. A house bathroom is on this level, its roll top bath being perfect for a long soak after a day on the hills.

A staircase leads down to the two comfortable bedrooms. Both come with TVs, luxury en-suite shower rooms and glass doors to the courtyard. On a summer’s day there is nothing better than a lazy morning in bed, with the sun pouring into the room.

One of a once cobbled row of four cottages, Abbots Reading Cottage is surrounded by scenic walks enjoyed both by guests and the local wildlife. It is not uncommon to come across deer while taking a morning stroll. Lakeside itself is home to the famous Lakes Aquarium and Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly from the pier, and the views across the lake are breath-taking.

If you are travelling to the Lake District with friends or extended family, but you would still like your own space, how about booking 2, 3 or all 4 of the Abbots Reading cottages. Set on the southern shores of Lake Windermere, the small, sleepy hamlet of Lakeside offers a peaceful getaway location, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the Lake District’s popular attractions, but still within easy reach of them. Whether you decide to discover the area in the car, by foot, bike, boat or steam, there’s plenty to see nearby to keep the whole family content. The ferry dock offers the chance to travel by boat to Waterhead or Bowness, or take a shorter trip to the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park, across the water, which offers pretty grounds set alongside the very tip of the lake, providing plenty of places for picnics, paddling, games and gentle strolls on sunny afternoons. Situated alongside the Lakeside Station is the long-standing Lakeside and Haverwaithe Railway, home to Britain’s oldest standard gauge steam engine, on which you can travel back in time along this well-loved Heritage line, and where little ones will delight in meeting Thomas and his friends. Visit the Lakes Aquarium to uncover the often-secretive world of life below water, where you’ll chance upon hundreds of captivating creatures that feature in the surrounding rivers, lakes and sea. There are wonderful, well-signed walks to be enjoyed in the immediate area, including the 5-mile route to Finsthwaite’s High Dam, which trails from Lakeside through pleasant woodlands and meadows. Lakeside offers an exclusive holiday location with all of the Lake District’s delights at your fingertips.

    I really enjoyed my stay.

The only downside was the size of the bedrooms, the split bedroom was a tight squeeze for two adults and the amount of storage was challenging. The duvets were a problem in that they kept sliding off the beds and the pillows were too hard. Hooks on the back of the bedroom doors would have been a great help.

The rug was grubby in the lounge area, but we understand with dogs it’s difficult to keep things clean, maybe a darker rug or washable one. Everywhere else was clean and comfortable The lounge and kitchen were amazing with the amount of space and facilities, very comfortable and didn’t need anything else.
