The Old Police House in Grasmere is highly praised for its stunning views, well-equipped kitchen, and prime village location. Guests appreciate the property's warmth, cosiness, and layout, which accommodates mobility issues and offers ample space. The scenic surroundings and proximity to local amenities add to the charm of this well-loved holiday home.
While many guests find the property to be clean and well-maintained, there are several mentions of cleanliness issues such as crumbs in the fridge, mould in the bathroom, and unwashed kitchen items. These appear to be isolated incidents rather than a consistent problem.
The location is consistently lauded for its convenience and beauty, with guests enjoying the proximity to local shops, the ease of access to walking routes, and the stunning views of the surrounding fells.
The property is described as warm, cosy, and comfortable, with a special mention of the new king-sized bed. However, there are comments about the single beds' comfort and the overly high thermostat settings, which slightly detract from the overall comfort.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable living spaces. However, there are reports of maintenance issues such as a leaking kettle, slow-draining sinks, and a worn non-stick pan, indicating room for improvement.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate the owners' thoughtfulness towards guests. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

Only two points to make it perfect. The floor outside the main bathroom needs fixing, the first time I stepped on it, I thought that I would go through the ceiling. Secondly, the courtesy light on the landing needs adjusting, five minutes is too long; 30 seconds would be sufficient.

It was comfortable with all the amenities you need. The only niggles were that there is only one bin for the property and when we arrived it was three quarters full so we were having to take the rubbish elsewhere until bin collection day which was towards the end of the holiday. The property would benefit from the downstairs lounge being upgraded, it's quite worn and not in keeping with the rest of the property.

It was exactly as described on the web site, and we would certainly think about booking it again. We did Silver Howe, Alcock tarn, Helm & Calf Crag and Easedale tarn all from the front door. A few things: 1. The mattresses are all very soft; not a problem but if you are prone to sciatica/bad back just be aware. 2. The front garden wall is quite low (which is great for the views), but the property does get lots a admiring looks from the many walkers passing by. 3. You should visit Sam Reads book shop, possibly the best independent book shop in the lakes. 4. Do not believe the BBC weather forecast; it said there would be a lot of rain the week we were there but, during the day, it hardly rained.
