The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman ford which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were ?rst laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions.

Have stayed at curlew cottage several times before and it hasnât lost its appeal, so warm and clean, comfortable beds, lovely bathroom, and the owner is very accommodating, thanks Rob

It was clean, comfy and very cosy. Perfect size and perfectly situated, very close to Barnard Castle. We loved sitting in the ajoining garden on the warm, sunny evenings...just perfect. Would highly recommend staying here.

Did not like the cooker as the rings did not cool off quick.also the owners who were on site never came to see if we were ok at any time we just gotthe key I from the box on the wall and left the key on table on leaving so disapointed all round
