The location is frequently described as beautiful and peaceful, ideal for exploring Northumberland and nearby Scotland. The rural setting with views of hills and valleys adds to the charm, although the proximity to a main road is noted but not seen as a detractor.

Comfort is a strong point for Drovers Rest, with guests finding the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy. Some minor feedback on the temperature and seating is noted, but overall, guests report a very comfortable stay.

Facilities are generally well-regarded, with the cottage being well-equipped for a holiday stay. Some guests suggest minor upgrades and maintenance, such as adding Wi-Fi or updating the DVD player. The lack of detailed instructions for appliances is also mentioned.

While guests mention a generous welcome pack and the hosts' helpfulness, there is insufficient information to determine the consistency of thoughtful gestures like gifts. Therefore, a score cannot be provided, and guests should note that such extras, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.

About this property

Otterburn 3 miles. A charming, stone-built cottage, in an isolated position, on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, 3 miles from Otterburn and 7 miles from Bellingham. Peacefully located, this fabulous, single-storey property is well equipped and comfortable throughout, and boasts a spacious, open plan living area and delightful lawned garden and patio, perfect for relaxing and unwinding. There are excellent walking, fishing and cycling opportunities from the doorstep, towards Hadrian's Wall and Kielder Forest, and a highly regarded golf course is within easy reach. Visit the many National Trust homes within easy reach, such as the magnificent Cragside house and Wallington Hall. The historic market town of Alnwick, with its majestic castle and splendid gardens, is just a 40 minute drive away, making this an excellent base for an all year round enjoyable holiday.

The delightful village of Otterburn is an incredibly tranquil little place, but this was once the site of the famous 1388 Scottish victory over the English. As the former home of a thriving weaving industry, the town was once known for the world famous Otterburn Mill, an integral part of the settlement's past. Close to the banks of the River Rede and situated between the hills and moors of the North Tyne Valley there are numerous excellent walking facilities in the area as well as a popular Coast-to-Coast route for cyclists. The beautiful Kielder Forest and Waters are close by as is the Roman construction of Hadrian's Wall, both of which are worth visiting. The area also provides fantastic fishing, horse riding and nature watching amidst superb, tranquil countryside.

Lots of thought have gone into making it homely. Warm and cosy and well equipped kitchen. The countryside around is stunning. No internet which wasn't mentioned by Sykes but good to have a break from it anyway. Lot of driving if you want to head to the coast not in distance but many winding roads but the beautiful villages and scenery on route made it worth the effort. John and Annie seem very kind friendly folk. Left us some lovely biscuits in welcome pack. Great property for keen walkers and bird watchers. Recommended . Bev & Phil Rothwell.

The owners , John and Anne, are friendly and helpful We were able to walk everyday and were very lucky with the weather. There is a 3 acre garden with lovely views of the surrounding moors and the dark skies are fantastic. Robert and Sandra Hird.

Although it's on a main A road it is sheltered by trees, but roads in Northumberland are not that busy anyway. Lots of wildlife in the huge garden, including hares. This was our fourth visit and already planning our fifth! Owners make their guests very welcome.
